Almost 10 years ago...... I'll never forget watching this series summer break of 2012. I was convinced completely to switch to PC. Around Christmas time the same year, I scrapped up enough to get a shitty hand me down PC with a Nvidia 9600Gt graphics card and DDR2 ram. Bought Arma 2 and Operation arrowhead I played this game and enjoyed the 15 fps I got on low settings. I'll never forget this mod, it changed an entire business model for survival games. Kilroy, I know you don't really filter through old comments and record gaming videos. But thank you for this series and being willing to record literal gaming history. I've been a PC gamer since I saw this series. I hope life treats you well and best to your future endeavors.

This reminds me of when I first played the mod. It was so thrilling being thrown into Chernarus with no bearings, running from zombies. I died so many times, trying to avoid zombies. Standalone is great, but before you figured out all the game mechanics the mod was a truly magical experience.

Man i remember when i found my first gun, it was night time and i spent 3 hours in REAL TIME crawling away from zombies and i found a makarov in a shed and i remember just watching the entrance for like 15 minutes i was so fucking scared. 2 months later, i approached the same town by sprinting in, knowing the inns and outs of the game, i love the game... but that feeling of foreboding is gone!!

An absolute classic.This series spurred me to build my first gaming PC back in 2012. It's been one hell of a ride, and I don't really see myself ever returning to consoles. I haven't been following DayZ as of late, but I've heard it's turned into a glorified open-world deathmatch. Shame this all never quite worked out.

I never said that word, Also i did not chronologically state in what shape came next in the pattern, i'm just saying that ideas were thrown about after DayZ came around, and for the record, the DayZ stand alone was being developed way before WarZ was, infact, it was supposed to be released before warZ was... why do you think WarZ did so poorly? it was rushed out so it could catch the market before the stand alone dominated the zombie game industry, so they held off on the DayZ Standalone because they knew it would be an easy enough thing to accomplish... that being overtaking warz in it's unfinished entirety.

So much better than standalone. I'll never forget joining a group and going on loot raids at the NWAF in a chopper. We got surrounded by zombies and had to use smoke to distract them so we could make it to the chopper for extraction.

Wow you mean people actually at one time didn't KOS, I have played standalone like 135 hours according to steam and have only come up on 3 friendlies. Rest of time I am getting KOSed and I carry only basic gear ax and food, That way if I do die it doesn't take long to gear back up, with a gun always have to look for ammo so I just use a ax, and I always play friendly only attack when attacked.

There were always some people that KOS. But those were bandits and bandits always had different skin even after respawn. and killing bandits was alowed so you were motivated to not become bandit. They removed this in stnadalone so you could wear clothes and you would never know whom to trust. The idea had opposite effect of turing everyone into KOSers.

Mannnn I remember being 12 years old begging my mom to get me a pc…. Got a pc download DayZ and was amazed by how one mod captured all the emotions everyone loves in 1 game. I remember it not stopping there either, played ShackTac with dyslexia(friend)or whatever his name was, had some of my best gaming moments with this game and community

It's heartbreaking to see this in its original state. Before it was butchered by countless updates that continued to make it worse. It was great as it was, incredibly janky. But that was half the charm. Now I don't even know what it's become.

These were the days when people knew very little about DayZ. It was indeed a lot more fun because it was all new but the core mechanics were completely shit. It'll be interesting to see how DayZ SA will be once it's fully released but it feels like they're aiming for the wrong stuff. But as I said, we'll see in the future, it's still in Alpha.

I think with vehicles the game will have a bit more purpose and actually require people to work in groups, because I have very fond memories of having a group where a couple guys would guard a broken car and the others would go searching for parts. However, the main problem is really the map familiarity, modders need to make new maps or even the developers could add ARMA 3 maps. That would be cool.

Wow this was the first DayZ mod video I ever watched and have always wondered why it was I subbed to CHKilroy I see now it was 2 years ago a day before I bought Arma 2 and OA and started the many hours of this great, fun, fantastic and entertaining mod and I never have the same experience when I play I currently reside in its expanded mods on Epoch or Overpoch. A good plan to start is to go to ba Ota or kamoravo, I forget which, and just outside of one on the shore is a huge building and in there there's a ton of axes, which you want not only because it allows you to get steathly kills in the beginning, you can get fire wood and cook food later. It also has a ton of car parts. Then, you follow the road to cherno and get blood bags in the hospital, if your playing with a friend, and then go to the buildings across the street, top floor one usually has a
