Love the tempo. Tendency is to speed songs up live. Good job Mr Rigby!

This is great to see from 1984. A very underrated band would see them play Maxwells in the day. Thanks for posting.

Same here. This would've been around the time they toured with R.E.M. I distinctly remember the "Suspicious Minds cover" from seeing them on that tour.

IMHO- power pop had really started to die out around this era. Of course some people will mention a band like REM but IMHO, I dont regard them as true power pop like the DBS were. Holsapple and Stamey made a helluva songwriting team, with 1 of them having more of a pop edge and the other having more of a alternative- cutting edge style along with both of them having contrasting lyrical styles. I was influenced by this band { along with the beatles, big star, sparks, boston, elo} and I do feel my own songs/songwriting reflects that. I had actually gotten in contact with Stamey many years ago and he listened to some of my originals and seemed to like them even though my writing style was more driven towards melody , like Holsapples writing. Id love to be able to get in touch with Holsapple and let him hear some of my originals and get his opinion.

Seeing Holsapple play anything other than a tele feels so weird
@peterholsapple13207 ай бұрын
These days, I spend my time on a Tele (minus the neck pickup), a Les Paul Standard (which I don't deserve) and an Epiphone ES 339 (incredibly versatile).

Like parts of REM, Television, and Big Star mashed up real nice. They should have been up there with REM if the music business wasn't such a cruel mistress.

Yup. Chris announced his departure in April 1982, but The dB's signed to Bearsville (distributed by Warner Bros.) without the label knowing Chris had left the band!
