Thank you so much for this. I am actually writing an English assignment for a class i am doing on the impact of bands that inspired bands like the Ramones and The Dead boys. Bands like The New York Dolls, Iggy and the Stooges and the MC5. And earlier bands such as ? and the Mysterians and The Sonics. This is amazing.

What a bunch of nice, clean cut youths in attendance for the Ramones. Very wholesome. Then there’s the Dead Boys, who if I remember correctly were officially broken up at this point, but doing the occasional one-off ‘reunion’ gig, of which I’m assuming this footage was taken from. Stiv’s already in his little power pop uniform, so this must’ve been shortly before he moved to L.A. and put the Disconnected band together. I think Zero went with him but didn’t stay very long.

@rikstrange6622 жыл бұрын
@@leahflower9924 Steve came from Girard,Ohio The Youngstown area was a real hot bed of musical talent from the early 60s through the 70s. Cleveland was close and so was Pittsburgh so the pool of musicians was emence and diverse. NYC is only 3-1/2 hrs away so it was only natural that he would gravitate in that direction. When I played with him he was still only considered some what of a over amped lead singer. Got himself in a few scuffles when he played because of his anti conventional rocker ie The Stooges. Really was not that off the hook cartoon in real life. Just a regular human in need of acceptance.
@Shikta-poobah679 ай бұрын
@@rikstrange662I met him once, in the early 80’s on the Lords Of The New Church’s very first tour, right after their gig at the Island in Houston. He was both one of the nicest, as well as one of the funniest people I ever met. I was just a scrawny little 15 year old at the time. Most older punks wouldn’t give me the time of day back then, but Stiv treated me as an equal and was a real gent. Just a solid guy. I was gutted when I got the awful news back in ‘90, and it still makes me sad to this day. He is very much missed. It was great to read your recollections of growing up with him in Ohio.

Also the Dead Boys were pretty much kaput in ‘79, except for the occasional one off ‘reunion’ gig so Cheetah could afford to get his next fix… which this actually looks like it could be, based on Stiv’s then-current power pop attire, which I’m pretty sure he didn’t start doing until ‘79. Who knows.
