I'm a one man team and this took a ridiculous amount of time to make. Please like and comment if you enjoyed it & by all means let me know in the comments if you didn't. History Time, . I really enjoy your videos and this one was no different. was great history lesson of the period the scrolls were thought to be written but had very little to do with the discovery in Qumran. Consider retitling the video. This video would make a great part 1 of it Dead Sea Scrolls series maybe the next part would be an investigation into the controversy surrounding the Scrolls and maybe a third part about the Scrolls themselves. :)

ALEXANDRIA EGYPT was but ONE of the Large Libraries Alexander the Great had built in Every Nation he conquered. Paul the Apostle writes for times about the STOA The Greek words this word is in are phrases a series of words. The STOA was from Athens it is sometimes translated COLONNADE to this day Courts Government Buildings are built after the pattern of the Stoa but these were only part of an entire pack of government, Judicial, Each had a LIBRARY filled with the writings of Greek philosophers w Each had a Theater showing Greek plays, Each had a Hippodrome a giant over sports arena. The Purpose of the stoa was to HELLENIZE every greek nation conquered and the world was Hellenized. Caesar Augustus saw the Power of the Stoa and Romanized it and put it in every nation they conquered and the world became Greeko/Romanized. These Libraries were all around the Mediterranean and the Mother Library was in Athens. No one speaks of this at all. And under Caesar Augustus There would have been a MASTER LIBRARY IN ROME. Rome was sacked twice and then Mohammed went around the Mediterranean and destroyed all these libraries one by one burning all the scrolls and stealing some that were later sold. Or used for teaching example: medicine. This Giant Library under the Vatican in 17 miles of tunnels filled with shelves would be the master Library from Rome. In the Desert in the area of Libya THAT WAS CONQUERED BY ROME half buried in sand is a lost city that has a giant library. filled with scrolls that are slowly turning to dust. there are videos of this but no company has gone in to catalog these No archaeologists have taken any interest. And then there is the LOST LIBRARY of Alexandria the mother of them all NOT A WORD has ever been said or written of this Library The Stoa was a package of government education with a Gymnasium that was the Greek word for collage.it had sports but it was primarily a collage, the stoa had theater and the arts. it had sports so this package what to convert the entire population to be Hellenistic Greeks and it worked Sort of like Television in the 1960's in the book The Media they write and boast how they altered opinions on dozens of things that were societal norms before. The TV is the ultimate little Stoa. The internet is too unfocused today as it is everything in the world

Agreed, again speaking as a Christian, the Dead Sea scrolls are absolutely fascinating. These scrolls are about as close as we’ll get to original sources on the matter so the contents within should be considered as serious as any other part of the Bible imo. None of what I heard so far could be deemed in my eyes as “controversial,” maybe I just missed the memo at service of something…

i'm a History lover through and through, but i can't help but see how unbiased is your narrative! The Dead Sea Scrolls are such sensitive yet eye opening/institution destroying evidences and yet you kept it strictly to the history, to it's origins and how it came to be. Highly informative and kept me engaged all throughout. Not seen such documentary presentation ever. Thank YOU!!
@changed9047
@changed9047 3 жыл бұрын
It actually does quite the opposite of destroying bc the evidence strengthens the origins of Christianity. Notice how the documentary didn't go into what's inside the scrolls, even though they've been translated for years? Like how the beginning of the Gospel of Mark 1:1-4 are the same as 1QS6:12-16 or Matthew 11:2-4 being the same as 4Q521:1,6,11-13 or Mark 10:45 correlating with the Damascus document and so much more. Would you like to explain the 'evidences' you are talking about? Because this topic is a debate and not conclusive by any measure and to say the latter is bias and irresponsible for a 'History lover'.

@@changed9047 There is no "so much more." There is only a handful of similarities between some of the scrolls and the Gospels which made all sorts of pseudo-scientists and conspiracy theorists claim that the Qumran group were pre-Christians or early Christians. They were not. There are a lot more differences than similarities. All Jewish religious groups of that time shared some similarities. There are more similarities between the Gospels and Pharisee doctrine than between the Dead Sea scrolls and the Gospels.
@changed9047
@changed9047 3 жыл бұрын
Care to give some examples? Bc I can go on all day in why and how the latter holds ‘more’ water. If we are looking at it from a non pseudo science perspective, I’d say the evidence clearly leans in support of my initial interpretation rather yours.

@robertleffel3156 3 жыл бұрын
@@changed9047 The Gospels have myriad of quotes from the Hebrew bible, Deuteronomy extensively, also Proverbs and the Prophets. Besides, Jesus refers to the Oral Law as mandatory which was at that time upheld only by the pharisee group and was written down a few hundred years later. So clearly he knew it and observed it. See Matt 23: 3 (“do and observe everything they [the scribes and Pharisees] command you”)and read here: www.jerusalemperspective.com/2022/ and here: www.jerusalemperspective.com/5604/ If this doesn't prove that Jesus and his followers were pharisee or at least a pharisee splinter group, there is even less proof (or none whatsoever, to be exact) that Qumran community and the Christians were one and the same. No serious scholar believes that.

@@changed9047 So this proves that the origins of Christianity is in Judaism, particularly the version that became known as rabbinic Judaism later, and less so in other Jewish schools of thought of he 1st century. I believe that most modern Christian authorities agree with that.

Okay I absolutely love this. I've watched this video 3 times now because I'm enthralled by the story you tell. I'm no historian, I'm not religious, I'm frankly just trying to get some material for a D&D game and learn something along the way, or perhaps vice-versa. So, your illustrations and narration are top notch. The way you weave all this information together is beyond impressive. I do want to point out a very specific thing that I found immensely helpful: your dedication to annotations in the bottom left of the screen, with names, dates, tag lines, etc. Even (or especially) the repetition of those annotations. The fact that there's always some informative text at the bottom left to tie your words to is very very helpful to me in placing all this information in my head. Above all else though, thanks man. I'm hella inspired.

The Dead Sea Scrolls were a significant discovery for two main reasons; 1) they demolished long held assertions that the Masoretic and Septuagint texts were recent creations and affirmed the rigid standards for the accuracy of textual transmission prior to the first century - and even much earlier. 2) they affirmed the authenticity of the New Testament as intrinsically Jewish via shared or similar prose, colloquialisms, Hebraisms, word plays, theology etc - all hiding in plain sight of the Greek manuscripts of the New Testament. Point number two SMASHES more recent conspiracy theories that the four canonical Gospels were written much later by non-Jewish Greco-Roman forgers. The gnostic gospels are in fact the later forgeries because in addition to the absence of any geographic references to first century Judea and the Galil, they lack the centrality of the intrinsic Jewishness of the four canonical Gospels.

this is true but there is still enough greco-roman content in the gospels (including passages that are either anachronistic or display the lack of knowledge of 1st century jewish culture) to suggest that they at least went through a later redaction by non-Jews.

Only those whose intention is to disbelieve in a Creator will choose to dismiss actual historical events. The "believers" at the beginning were indeed persecuted and killed. Only after the true doctrines were watered down and incorporated into pagan Roman worship was "Christianity" accepted and promoted. But you see, it was NOT Christianity. It was a religion of paganism and tradition. Are these things Biblical ? --- Christmas, Easter, worship of the sun on sunday, calling a man the "holy father", ( the pope, of the satanic religion of Rome , ) No, none of those things are in the writings of the Dead Sea Scrolls OR the early writings and manuscripts of the followers of the truth in the first or second centuries. In other words, today's Christianity is not based on the Bible.
@charleshendrick7266
@charleshendrick7266 4 жыл бұрын
@@geezermann7865 But what exactly does it matter? Reminds me of 2 bald guys arguing over a comb. All religions seem to evolve and split off, changing over a period of time until you hit the point where it is hard to see the connections between the former and the latter. And the result usually ends up with wars being fought, atrocities committed. lots of folks dying, sometimes torturous deaths all in the name of some god or gods. The main real benefit of these religions seems to be assisting with population control on the planet earth. I guess we can thank them for that. Your claim that today's Christianity is not based on the Bible, heck the "authorities" can't not even get together on what the Bible really says. This Bible seems to sew discord and division when anyone attempts to take it seriously and ask for the Holy Spirit to reveal "truth" to them. I am not singling out Christianity.. make no mistake... it just seems all 3 of the Abrahamic faiths cant even get their act together amongst themselves with so many sects and sub-sects insisting "they' have the right understanding and any other interpretation is more or less deserving of death. Heck.. how long did "Christians" argue with one another concerning whether Adam/Eve had belly buttons? Have they settled that yet? Evidently "God" really sucks at communication skills. Now with that out of the way I wish to sincerely thank HISTORY TIME for such a well written and directed video that anyone (like me).. who is interested in religion/history in general can appreciate. I have yet to find a better source of accurate information from any other vids. I have never seen you attempt to slant your productions or sensationalize in order to get a boost in your ratings... your are a "just the facts" kind of historian and that is a rare find these days. Kudos!
