@Brannon Wilkie - lol. On a literal note, though, there are several Irish songs which aren't just about drinking! Quite good ones too. - Skibbereen - a story about hard times and famine in the Skibbereen area of West Cork, Ireland - Oro Se Do Bheatha Bhaile - an old Irish song, particularly associated with Irish rebels in the early 20th century, and mentions the famous late 16th century Irish pirate Grainne Mháille (Grace O'Malley) (you can hear it as a marching song in the movie The Wind That Shakes the Barley) - The Fields of Athenry - about an Irishman sent to prison because he was caught stealing corn to help starving children/famine victims, and noting the failure of (presumably the 1848) rebellion. - The Rocky Road to Dublin - mentions a bit of drinking in one or two lines but IIRC isn't about drinking - Star of the County Down - love at first sight while on the road! (a fav song of mine) - The Rising of the Moon - about the 1798 Rebellion - Mo Ghile Mear ("My Gallant Darling") - from the perspective of a woman missing her husband who's far away (the Gaelic is beautiful in it) - The Foggy Dew - about the 1916 Easter Rising (So...yes there definitely are songs about things other than drinking...there's songs about rebellion too! lol)
