@rondohunter89665 жыл бұрын
@@Beth_Amphetamine Now that you mention that does sound familiar. If I'm not mistaken the poison comes from the plants and/or animals they live on. An article I just read says that wild-caught frogs can maintain toxicity for some time. Like you said domesticated frogs do not have the poison but depending on the diet they can absorb it, so care must be taken with a caged frog so as to minimize harmful alkaloids. Not harmful to him, to human.

By the time we got him to the hospital he was almost back to normal so the doc said it must have been a very small amount but to this day he says it's the most painful thing by a factor of 10 that he's ever experienced and really scared the crap out of us kids.

Wow, I never knew the strychnine tree would be that DEADLY! Living in South-East Asia, and as a kid, I used to go around plucking these orange "berries". I knew they were poisonous and so did all the kids. So we usually use them as projectiles for our own version of "snowball" fight. Heck, folks over here basically use these trees as decorations for landscaping; as for kids, a cheap and fun way to literally die for.

Some of my old Teachers in School definitely had the most toxic breath one can imagine.I dunno how i survived.
@peachymeechie18444 жыл бұрын
Why is that a common thing amongst teachers? And they constantly try to come close to your table in elementary school and get near you and the bad breath almost knocks you over, and then you go home n tell Mom and Dad and they say, "well hunny you'll just have to deal with it! Just look away!" Bwahahahaha!!! What s joke! Especially when they hover over little ones constantly! So you may just wish to tell kids early to spray so ñme cologne or perfume on their sleeve and put it bear their face for comfort. Lol! That's what I did!! I'll never ever forget this old substitute teacher named Mr. Bryant!! He was mean and his breath was kickin' and you could smell him coming! He gets the gold medal 🏅 for the worst breath I ever had to smell! Just straight poopy!! 💩🤢

How does water hemlock (cicuta maculata) compare to castor beans in toxicity? This grows in my area (CT). I always thought water hemlock was the most poisonous plant in North America.
@west_park79932 жыл бұрын
how about oleander. aka zakum, zaqum, zaqhum
@mrreg2 жыл бұрын
Cicuta contains Cicutoxin,which is a non-alkaloidal acetylenic compound. This compound is definitely of lower toxicity than Ricin (LD5O of Ricin is approximately 6 micrograms/kg body weight,injected dose). Cicutoxin has an LD50 of 2.8 milligrams /kg of body weight.,which means it requires about 500 times more Cicutoxin.

What I want to know is why a plant would want its berries/fruit to be poisonous. Seeds, yeah, that makes sense, but why the fruit itself? Wouldn't that discourage consumption and therefore impede the spreading of seeds?
@purecringe57188 жыл бұрын
If the seeds we're the only poisonous part say goodbye to that plant species if it's seed is small
@ProfessorSyndicateFranklai8 жыл бұрын
Well, maybe it doesn't want you to eat it because it has other pollinators specially selected to do so.
@duncanmacleod42678 жыл бұрын
Many plants spread their seeds in other ways. Keep in mind that the fruit of a plant is there to provide extra nutrients for the seed. It just happened that some tasted good to animals, so plants evolved around that and made seeds that could survive digestion.
@42Fossy8 жыл бұрын
Duncan MacLeod That makes sense, thank you :)
@shawnwales6968 жыл бұрын
It's the seeds of apricots, peaches and apples that contain cyanide, not the fruit, but that doesn't mean that some fruits aren't poisonous. It just depends on the strategy the plant uses to ensure seed dispersal. A plant that depends on animals to eat the fruit and disburse the seeds in a birds guano (AKA chalk, poop etc.) wouldn't be likely to have toxic fruit for example. There is a lot of variety out there, kind of fascinating, don't you think?

Ricin is being investigated as treatment for cancer? Damn that would've made a great plot twist for Breaking Bad! Imagine Walter White trying to commit suicide using ricin and instead treats his own cancer. He becomes a hero sentenced to death. He killed dozens of people but saved millions with his research on ricin that led to the discovery of a cure. :) Man Vince Gilligan you suck at writing endings..

JunksBv I didn't even spoil anything lol. That's how I would've liked it to end not how it ended. With Walter White making a huge breakthrough in science that would save millions of lives. But since he doesn't care much for his own well being it would take her daughter or son to be threatened by a brain tumor to push him to research ricin more seriously.

Wow, so Walter and Jesse would have been deep in Mexico by the time Tuco died. Walter would have known this too, being the brilliant chemist he is. Plot Hole?
@XRezZzoN10 жыл бұрын
not at all. their original plan was to set up a meeting with tuco to poison him with their "new" meth recipe, then leave and wait for tuco to die (as opposed to tuco dying within half an hour, in which case tucos buddies would surely be able to recognize whos responsible for their bosses death and avenge him), but they were abducted before they could do that. now, if u were in walters position, why wouldnt u try poisoning tuco, even if he was going to take u to mexico? i mean, he could easily kill u (or jesse) if he had one of his "phases" and is still posing a threat to everyone around him.

The more I watch these videos the more I come to believe that Nature is really just one big free-for-all. As human beings we sometimes make the mistake of imposing logic on the natural world; we look at it or refer to it as if it's a unified, singular being, and that's a mistake. "Nature" is rudderless, reactive, without focus other than the most basic of principles: survival at all costs.

Very good information. Whilst hunting poachers in Africa I drank water from a hot spring. Long story short, life for me 2 days later was near the end, fortunately I got evacuated. The locals gave me a poison of two drops a day to keep me alive or kill me for a week as an antidote. 3 drops were deadly, these good people knew the poison antidote and one month later I walked again. My blood was later sent to South Africa for Analysis and they suggested a very rare toxic pathogen that I had injested.

Is Botox botulinum?
@jibbyjackjoe11 жыл бұрын
It sure is.
@unclecuddles523211 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Williams I thought botox was found and used from a certain jellyfish poison/toxin I guess the jellyfish utilized natural and local botulinum in the water to make the poison/toxin?
@Ecapsora11 жыл бұрын
Yep, botox is an abbreviation of BOtulinum TOXin. Since it's a paralytic it's used to paralyze facial muscle thus preventing them from causing wrinkles. However, there are risks of the toxin spreading to other sites or if a blood vessel is accidentally pierced the patient will die without being administered the antitoxin as soon as possible. Also, jellyfish are venomous, like spiders and wasps, and while their toxin can sometimes paralyze it has no connection to botulinum bacteria.
@kaziiqbal725711 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Williams Ecapsora Vincent Lopez I thought so because in sherlock when he found Botox he said that it was a form of Botulinum Toxin. Ecapsora Wait, I never said toxin, how did you know.

Ecapsora there once was a woman who bought botox of of the black market, but it wasn't injected well. later that day she started to feel a little sick, so she took a bath, but she got paralyzed and drowned in her own bath.
