You need to make the rocket out of material tough enough to withstand the absurdly extreme heat of the burning fuel, and design the aerodynamic shape of the rocket to minimize drag so it has all the force it needs to get up out of the atmosphere.

The hard part of rocket science comes from changing mass as it uses up fuel meaning that calculus will be needed. Also factoring in air resistance is also really hard, among many other things. So rocket science can actually rather difficult.
