Since you mentioned the other members of TDH I thought you should know their names. Theres Rob Parr and Max Tousseau on guitar, Gavin Castleton on Keyboard, Nick Sollecito on Bass, and Casey’s brother Nick Crescenzo on Drums. All of them are absolutely top notch musicians.

One thing to note is that those are the current members of TDH. There were different members for Acts 1-3. I think there were a few changes in members between the break between Acts 3 and Act 4 and even the current lineup for Antimai

The color spectrum has a lot to go through musically. It's dense and doesn't have a story to guide you as far as I know. Splitting it into a two parter is a good idea, but it may be even better to split into each colour. They fit well into the groups imo and Blue - Indigo (Violet too upon second thought) are my faves. Can't wait!

I concur with Santiago on how to tackle the Color Spectrum - the fact that there are 9 EPs makes it difficult to take in halves, unless you want to listen to half of Green for one video and half for another. My personal preference is the whole thing at once, but that depends entirely on whether you have any interest in *listening* to the whole Spectrum at once. Great reaction, by the way, as per usual! Act III is my least favorite of the Acts, and I think that although it's well-mixed, it's rather poorly-produced (looots of clipping, sadly), but it's still an incredible, fast-paced experience, and I'm glad you've gotten to experience it yourself! ... Acts IV and V should blow you away, though. They take the orchestral direction this album is going in and take it to its logical conclusion, and Casey himself attests to the fact that the thematic material gets increasingly mature as the Acts go on. (Also, in Life and Death, at least the "One of these days, he will learn to love..." passage is definitely sung by the Oracles).
@Laughingman9235 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you're moving on to The Color Spectrum, it truly shows how diverse this band can be. Not sure if you'll do Migrant after that or back to the Acts, but you will definitely love the different styles they use. As Hunter matures so does their sound and you will hear their experimentation bleed into the next two acts, you'll be blown away.
@StringHead925 жыл бұрын
Oh man, another great reaction to another amazing album. And trust me, Acts IV and V get even better, even more complex in storytelling, orchestral arrangements and philosophical/ethical undertones. The production, great as it is, gets better too. I like that you mention how the innocence of the character continues to bleed into the tracks even with everything that happens to him and everything he does. The last two acts deal a lot with identity, regret, crisis of faith and even mental health issues, in a really interesting way. As a little comment, that haunting piano coda at the very end of Life and Death is a reprise of Writing on a Wall actually. I find that to be a great way to bookend the album. I'd take The Color Spectrum in thirds, as the band did with one of the full set releases. First, Black, Red and Orange; then, Yellow, Green and Blue; and finally Indigo, Violet and White. But in halves could be great too. I have no issue with the whole thing, but since it is a lot to take, it would be a crazy long video for sure.
@CohenMejan5 жыл бұрын
The piano outro is also much like the first section of Son! Also I agree about taking the Color Spectrum in thirds. Each set of three colors work quite well with each other.
@saephon39885 жыл бұрын
First time viewer to this channel, and I have to agree. If he enjoys what he's heard so far, Acts 4 and 5 are going to absolutely blow him away. They're my two favorites I think. The orchestral arrangements are just out of this world. The experience gained with The Color Spectrum really ensured that the last two acts would be stellar.

"TDH is a gateway drug" god this is so true, my world has opened up since discovering the depths of prog music. I'd love it if you could listen to some Anekdoten when you get a chance. Swedish prog. Their newest album is the best produced and might be the best representation of their skill but their older albums have such a unique allure.

Color spectrum is 9 4-song EPs. Having seen the band perform it in its entirety (even they had to have an intermission), I say do 9 separate videos one for each color. Or if youd like the videos to be a little more meaty, 3 sets of 3 should work really well

Been waiting for this video for so long, and now im even more excited for you to experience 4 and 5 which are in my opinion the most well made albums ever. the production quality, the story, the catchy choruses, memorable moments, some insanely talented musical ability from all members of the band. nothing beats them. A similar band to TDH that got posted in their subreddit a few months back that I HIGHLY recommend is Coyote Kid. They were formerly Marah in the Mainsail and just changed their name with their newest album release (which is only available to kickstarter backers until the albums release on Oct 25th). I would check out the album "Bone Crown" under the name Marah and give their newest album "The Skeleton Man" a listen when it drops. I can safely say if you dig TDH you will also like them a lot too. Similar over arching story concepts with more of a western feel to the sound.

I learn so much by watching these, with your insights on the different accents. Can’t wait to hear you do the rest of their records. In regards to the color spectrum, if you’re up for listening to the whole thing in one go then I would say do that. Otherwise cutting it in half sounds more reasonable. Well my essay here is done but seriously my dad and I thank you for your content.

Hi Baldman! (my 2 cents on TCS if you expand my comment). A nice treat to see that the Act III video finally came! I almost wish you would do Act IV and V next, but it may actually be a good thing to do TCS next because it gives Matt time to work on his Act IV guide for you. Act IV might possibly be my favorite album of all time, but Act V is basically a tie. They are both so damn good, it's unreal. Anyhow, my take on the TCS splitting agenda (next paragraph) and an extra idea for it (paragraph after). I think it should be split into a video per color. Not only will this be the easiest way to group them and record your videos, but it will allow you to really analyze and discuss each color at the end of that particular color without having to jump to the next color (which will have a different style and feel). It will span many videos yes, but hey, it's always cool to get more channel updates from you - especially when they are TDH related :D The other idea, which I think will really make for an engaging experience for you and listeners alike is to do this TCS listening through the The Color Spectrum Live DVD instead of through a music-only subscription channel. Hear me out. The entire live DVD is on KZbin, and honestly, the DVD as a music experience is as good on a song per song basis (if not better at times) than the studio. The Live DVD was also recorded in color coded order like the EPs were, so all you would need is a time range on the complete KZbin video for each color, starting with the Black EP from the start of the video. That should be easy if you look at the first comment by matteo buananno. The recording quality for the DVD was stellar, and they bring in various orchestral players for certain songs and colors, and it's a real treat to see and hear. You also get to watch Casey belt some sick guitar solos! Let us watch it, and listen to it with you! Link to the full DVD KZbin video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXKTqmuGfL-jp9k I don't think it has ads. Another idea could be to have someone send you a copy of the DVD or buy it on Amazon (currently some copies available there as of today for $18.98) and have us view it with you that way.

If you don't mind, here are my two cents on The Color Spectrum; I think splitting each color into it's own video diminishes the value of what TCS is trying to do. Yes, technically it is a collection of 9 separate EPs, but the collection was designed with the intention of it being listened to as a whole. Yes, there's no "concept" in the traditional sense, but as you listen to it there is a natural flow and arc as you go through the colors, almost as if you're starting out in this place of anger, and almost confusion, and over the course of the collection coming to terms with the emotion and finally resolving in acceptance in White. Maybe that part isn't intentional, but I definitely feel that it's there. I also think taking the colors out of context, since each color's sound is so distilled, lessens the reaction to more of a "that's neat", then appreciating TCS as a body of work representing all the different elements Casey is capable of. Also, Casey himself said that the inspiration behind TCS was to create something that you HAD to set aside a large chunk of time for, almost to prove to labels that people still do have attention spans for things that matter. (There's a short promotional video from when it was released where he says all this.) Baldman and I have already spoken very briefly about TCS and that's where the idea of splitting it in half came from, but at least in my mind I think that's more just from a length requirement, a 3 hour video is a LOT for most people. Baldman mentioned that he worries 2.5 hours of music will be too much to absorb, but I actually think that wouldn't be much of an issue, TCS is of course long but the different colors are so distilled, and almost simple in a sense (it's Casey, nothing's ever actually simple of course) that TCS is far more palatable then it may seem at first. It's not a 2.5 hour Act record, it's more almost a 2.5 hour experiment in distilling all the separate elements that go together to create The Dear Hunter. Anyway, those are my thoughts, thank you for coming to me TED Talk

@@HoldenCaulfield310 Ok.. well there's definitely some pros and cons to each possible method here. I honestly would even have a hard time listening/watching for a 3 hour video. The live DVD is so great though, and I could and would watch Baldman enjoy it. I don't know if I could just watch him listen to the audio straight through though. Having a video of the band playing would make things more interesting for both Baldman and the listener. Do you like the idea of doing it via the DVD video? One thing I like about the idea of splitting it up into smaller pieces is that there would be less of a wait. Baldman could do like 1 color per week and it would be exciting to see his thoughts on each color separately. I think Baldman is quite good at coming back to something with his previous analyses still quite fresh in his mind, based on how he comments on each video so far.
@HoldenCaulfield3105 жыл бұрын
@@nikovandh I mean, ultimately it's Baldman's decision, I'm trust him to decide which way he thinks is best, I'm just voicing my perspective on what I think The Color Spectrum presents. When it comes to the DVD, I'll just be honest, while it's entertaining I do think the audio quality isn't the best, and the arrangements I feel aren't as good as the recordings. But that's just opinion. And as for splitting it, I totally understand and think that probably would end up being the most doable option, however I think one color a week is a bit too small. Each color is only about 12 minutes long, and with nine colors it would take more than 2 months to get them all done, and that's assuming everything goes according to plan and a week isn't missed due to some unforseen circumstance. I think if it does end up being divided, larger chunks would be better. Again, opinion.

Subbed so I can watch the other dear hunter reaction albums!! If you want to do the color spectrum... you could break it up into EPs?
