Case 257: Joe Gliniewicz
After a routine check on suspicious activity turns to tragedy for Illinois Police Lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz, Fox Lake locals struggle to come to grips with the loss of their hero cop. A statewide manhunt ensues, but when the perpetrators aren’t immediately apprehended, the question is raised - could this have been a targeted attack?

27:43 Rising through the ranks after that litany of gross misconduct and abuse of power, which should surprise exactly no one. Great podcast. Infuriating subject matter, but so important to cover.

This really points to the willingness of higher ups to cover up and refusing to deal with all the problems. This sort of organizational failure leads to favoritism, bullying, distrust, conspiracy theories, and breakdown.

Always incredibly well researched and presented!!!! Angering case. Especially if you have (my brother, in 1999. RIP JAG!! You were an amazing brother) a loved one who ended their own life. It makes those suffering with thoughts of suicidal ideations, even more likely to hide their suffering and feelings. Bad enough YT treats the word suicide, as a cuss word and shameful. All these antics add up to the likelihood that they won’t speak up. Watch out for each other out there

I remember when this happened. It was one of the top stories on CNN for days. The press and the public were pretty convinced it was a suicide from early on. The fact that LE had so many people looking for the 2 white men and a black man and continued to come up with nothing says so much. Usually when a police officer is killed all resources go into locating the perpetrator and it doesn't take long. Thank you for the very thorough research and facts and details about this incident. Wonderful account of everything that happened.

Karma is a law; cause and effect with consequences for good or bad depending on the intention. Every action that dirty cop did was leaving a trail of evidence and accumulating over years. Transparency is important in public affairs especially when it comes to enforcing the law and public funds. Greedy arroogant people are unware they're subject to the laws of karma and will ultimately cause their self undoing. The egotistical cop caused chaos in his community, nothing good comes from unrestrained greed.

I love how everyone just believes Denise lol Women make up harassment claims all the time. I'm not saying he did or didn't do it, but it's amazing that everyone just believes the woman

I mean it becomes far more credible once there are more allegations from other women, which in this case there was. The narrator literally said a dispatch woman talked about being SA'd and how some women claimed he inappropriately groped their breasts at a Christmas Party. So I'm more inclined to believe her. But he is dead now so it don't matter.
Did they stage a home invasion to murder his father?
