The Death Of Art

Күн бұрын

Classic mash-up episode as we go to see the now-legendary Jean-Michel Basquait X Andy Warhol collab at The Brant Foundation on E 6th St, East Village, New York City. Despite the sound of someone beating a dead horse, we were able to find some good art, but the jury is still out whether it was worth the twenty bucks admission. We'll let you decide.
Hosted by Stefan and Cyril.
Shot and edited by Matt Reekie, December 2023.

I find your most entertaining videos involve brutally honest critiques. Maybe more group shows that showcase the good and the terrible?

I guess the point of the show was to exit via the gift shoppe. A good point made there.

Those doodles look like drawings hanged on hallways in kindergartens, smeared with scurrilous graffiti, and magnified like ten times. Thanks for having such extraordinary patience to review such stuff 👍👍

I can't explain why but I actually really like the aesthetic of a lot of these. Also DAMN I need one of those hoodies (and pop art is really the only style that serves such commodification well).

Thank you so much for bringing this to us. I loved the ones with Olympic hoops and African visages. Everything else was a total toss to me. Just shows you how subjective and individual our' opinions are.

Modernism is a form of visual chaos theory, intuited in the commentary saying some works had found a third way. However, the works could be said to be Postmodern inasmuch as that they are both enjoying making art and seeing what comes up, casually. 40 years on from these works, the problems of Modernism are still there to engage with. The aim is to achieve a synthesis of graffiti/graphic/object/picture/order/chaos/order with respect to the transcendental pictorial context of perspective geometry that exists across all visual media and the visual field. This is my take on that subject. I post here because I'll never get to New York and otherwise you'd never see or know of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGmtiKqLZbCsr80si=iNcGqBjFzd3H47gU

I heard they are fakes. Especially if they mention if they got on a Estate sale. Florida recently had a bust.

The thing both artists have in common is that both took aspects of pop culture ( advertising for W and graffiti for B.) and brought it to the gallery space. Brilliant and subversive when Warhol did it , but kind of derivative /old hat when Basquiat did the same. And I'm old enough to remember the NYC subways in the 70's covered in scribbles ; nothing romantic or artistic about it!

Basquait is so hack, but even more hack are the people that call his child scribblings art. Even Basquait laughed at the people that liked his art.
