Many people in the comments are saying "why didnt they amputate his leg?" They did have the tools for amputation however, hardly anyone survived. Henry VIII didnt want to risk it without being provided with a male heir to secure the succession to the throne of England. Also, Henry VIII executed many of his friends and nobles because he was paranoid about nobles having stronger claims to the throne than he did. He was easily gullible and trusted any of his allies at the Tudor court, even if they had lied. It gave Henry the excuse to execute his enemies with stronger claims to the throne.

@alanheath - Henry became more ill as his illnesses started to develop. Being in constant pain will change someone's personality, and not for the better. Plus the psychological toll must have been terrible. Imagine losing your former life and not being able to do the things you used to love. He must have been quite depressed and the anger inside of him was taken out on other people. Though a lot see Henry as evil, I feel some sympathy for the man given how his own body turned on him.

@@GaelinW It is apotheosized that Henry VIII had a genetic condition on his great grandmothers side, a rare blood antigen, McCleod syndrome. Not something most people can or should write off to diabetes, hypertension, and so on regarding his health and all the issues you listed above. Living to your 50s with a suppurating wound he obtained in his youth from a broken lance (bits still in his leg causing the septicemia) is frankly remarkable considering the times he lived in and standard medical care of the day. @71TattyTeddy - For an excellent medical view of not only Henry VIII but also a lot of other royals, I very much recommend "The Death of Kings: A Medical History of the Kings and Queens of England" by Clifford Brewer. A very sympathetic look not only at Henry but also the author provides a kinder interpretation of the doctors of the time, giving them much credit for attempting to help people without the benefit of modern medicine. It will provide a lot of answers for the many posts here.

@MsWiccanpriestess7 жыл бұрын
+Menerva4 most of the remedies he made contained lead, mercury was the treatment known to cure Syphilis but this never happened because the Henry VIII himself would've been out of the public eye for months..mercury was used because it helped the patient sweat and salivate..in regards to Henry's leg ulcers surgeon barbers would often lance his ulcers and keep it opened to maintain as a open wound and would later cauterize it using stinging hot irons.
@rwboa227 жыл бұрын
It is also interesting that he may have suffered traumatic brain injury (concussion, like that of football (NFL, CFL) players), leading to the CTE that pathologists have been finding in deceased athletes. That and the use of mercury (Hg) for medical treatment would have lead to Henry's paranoia (nearly similar to Russia's Ivan the Terrible, who consumed Hg to combat the effects of rheumatoid arthritis).

It might be premature to rule out Syphilis. The open sores, deteriorating mental health, infertility, and if it was also spread to his queens; this might explain the multiple miscarriages they suffered after the first child was born. The disease in females being less obvious in its symptoms but still creating consequences.
@Brinta35 жыл бұрын
Justificus About those miscarriages after the first child: “The researchers suggest that Henry’s blood carried the rare Kell antigen-a protein that triggers immune responses-while that of his sexual partners did not, making them poor reproductive matches. In a first pregnancy, a Kell-positive man and a Kell-negative woman can have a healthy Kell-positive baby together. In subsequent pregnancies, however, the antibodies the mother produced during the first pregnancy can cross the placenta and attack a Kell-positive fetus, causing a late-term miscarriage, stillbirth or rapid neonatal death.” (Jenny Cohen, 2018) Google that text if you want to read more.

The death of Henry the Vlll: On the 28th of January 1547 the funeral having already undergone one mistake while en route to his funeral ( when dogs were discovered licking the body during an overnight stop), soon after Henry's body was placed inside St George's Chaple, Windsor, Henry's Lead coffin bursts open once more. @alanheath - True. Look at Henry's tremendous girth! It is a wonder he lived as long as he did. The obesity naturally must have triggered diabetes and heart problems. Even though we have medications today to help with the problems brought on by obesity, it is still a fact that an obese person has a very strong chance of dying earlier than someone who is closer to a normal weight. I still can't visualize seeing Henry with a waist that exceeded 50 inches. It is mind boggling.

Good question. I thought their government healthcare was supposed to be the best. Do they not have dentists? Or is it, their "wonderful" NHS, can't afford to pay for dental care?
@Brinta35 жыл бұрын
You must be an American. This is what real teeth can look like at her age. Braces were uncommon in her youth, and they aren’t white because teeth get darker with age. It doesn’t mean that her teeth are in a bad state. European dentists’ first job is to try to preserve what you have, not to make it look fake and perfect. Bleaching has many risks. She may have healthier teeth than someone with blindingly white and perfectly straight teeth/veneers.
@Deborahtunes5 жыл бұрын
@@Brinta3 ~ My mother is 76 years old, and her teeth look cleaner, and whiter than this. And no, she's never had any bleaching done. But she does have regular dental check-ups every 6 to 12 months. Not all Americans have their teeth bleached. I know I've never done it. And neither has anyone else I know. But we do brush on a daily basis. Which keeps our teeth healthier/whiter than what this person has...

Diakon Franciszek Henry was just after The Wars of the Roses and being only the second of his dynasty he was VERY worried about not leaving a son to succeed him. After more than twenty years of marriage, Catherine of Aragon was past childbearing years and Henry was desperate to produce a male heir. He didn't have Catherine's confidence that Mary could do the job. That....and he was in lust with Anne Boleyn. When it appeared that she, too, wouldn't be able to provide that son. He was also tired of her. The quirkiness that was cute during their courtship was irritating during their marriage. If the evidence didn't exist, they'd just manufacture some.
@nancybroertjes51606 жыл бұрын
Strefanasha he and Catherine of Aragon had no living son so he convinced himself that was God's judgement on him for marrying his brothers widow....which was NOT forbidden but rather commanded by the Bible (Levarite marriage). In that period of history, people blamed all sorts of things on God's disfavor.

Yep...Henry denounced his marriage to Anne by saying they were never properly married. What did her in was the comment she made to a male court member. She said, "You look for dead men's shoes. If the King was gone you would look to have me". Any remark about the death of the ruling monarch was treated as a threat and treason. So, Henry used that statement in order to justify her death. She was not guilty of adultery and incest. Two innocent men died as did she. As a woman, I can't fathom that level of treachery by someone I loved. Without Anne's push for a Protestant faith, we would all be Catholics and the priests, cardinals, and Pope would be living the high life with the alms money they collected.
@gidzmobug23237 жыл бұрын
Jane Beatty Henry was starting to be weary of Anne before that comment. She had already miscarried twice before this, and she was jealous of his mistresses. The rule of the time was that a man might have a mistress, but the wife was expected to be chaste and submissive. Henry did warn Jane against meddling in his affairs by stating that her predecessor had been executed for that. Katherine Parr came thisclose to going to the Tower herself because she would speak to Henry about religion (she convinced him that she was trying to learn and to distract him from the pain in his leg).

Noah ark must be understand as a symbol. It is not that all animals were in his ark. The meaning of the story is that the lot of people and animals (nature) is related to each other. Evil done to the nature is also done indirectly to people. Protection of the animals is also indirectly related to people. Goodness of people (Noah) saved the nature (animals). Our misdeeds harms animals and our goodness and protection saves them.
