My go to website as a little kid was PBS kids and then I found club penguin! It makes me happy to see someone talk about kids websites. Such a forgotten part of the internet.

pbs kids, I still check out the new games and see what new shows they have added to the channel. TVO Kids (Canadian PBS Kids) hasn't changed that much from how it was from before. They just put more focus into their app games

The main reasons kids websites are no longer around or extremely sterile: - corporate greed - the rise of the iPhone/ipad/ iPod touch and with it apps and mobile games - the death of flash - online spaces for kids being overrun with PDF files as well as hackers trying to get the parents money - the rise of social media

aint NO WAY bro put toontown in the thumbnail and then proceeded to not mention it 💀 ANYWAYS, for anyone interested in virtual worlds that still exist, Toontown Rewritten is an amazing fan revival of Toontown with around 1000 players a day -- it's still very alive and kicking and getting new content! Most importantly, unlike most other fan projects I've seen, Toontown Rewritten is very dedicated to having the same quality of moderation as the original game (if not better) and is very kid-friendly still -- Highly would recommend as a child-friendly space since so many of those have been disappearing

Yeah the Neopets NFT stuff has been cancelled for over A YEAR by now, they've gone back to working on the game normally and it's surprisingly thriving. Bit unfair to bring it up in the video

it's always so funny to me when people look back on poptropica being this amazing limitless game. apparently it's an example of getting into something too early being a bad thing. i was introduced to it when it was SUPER new, possibly the year it came out, and what you could do with it was... very limited. i still remember the first couple new islands coming out. it was kinda fun, but once you completed the like 3-4 islands or whatever it had when i stopped playing, it didn't have much else to do. i don't even remember much of the multiplayer stuff so it was probably a really primitive version of that. idk like despite other sites also having limitations, i just remember it not really having the same replayability element that like. the pizza maker game in club penguin did, or whatever. i don't doubt that it eventually got to the point people reminisce on, but i guess it happened after i'd already largely given up on it

great video! sometimes i get nostalgia for my childhood websites and I try to look around for websites that manage to revive some of their games using flash alternatives like ruffle or waflash

When I saw this video recommended I was expecting late 90's and early 2000's kids websites like the early years of neopets and the kid's wb website. Also the fox kid website, early PBS kids, and the early days of the Nick site. Sites I visited when I was a kid. Seeing it all be kids sites that were made after I was an adult definitely makes be feel like I've suddenly aged 20 years lol. 😂

hey we have a family computer !! we've always had the computer room in our house (it is NOT the "office" either 😤 we put some respect on the family computer) and i use the computer every day to play webkinz, that site is still going!! (granted, im 24 and my mom is in her 60s so maybe its just old person behavior, but i know one friend of mine at least has a family computer at their home too lol)

For me I played Webkinz, A LOT of Animal Jam (I even got my parents to buy me Membership), A bit of Neopets (but only a little), I also really liked the Cartoon Network Website. I also (when I was really young) played the McDonald's MMO (yes that was a thing!), anyway the McDonald's one is actually lose media now, not surprising with how obscure it was (despite being McDonald's)

The professor had assigned progressing to a certain point as 'homework', but none of the kids felt like doing it, and I had speedran a month's worth of tasks in an afternoon so he dropped the idea the next day XD

There are still some sites like the old ones. You can probably find a few horse games both browser based and mmo (NOT horse isle tho). Theres also Lioden tho that game is 16+ (swearing, gore and creepy stuff). Gaia is technically still around but Im sure everyone on there is like 30.
