Yes...I have always found it interesting, but I totally understand both sides of the spectrum. :-) Thank you for coming by !

I think they both have their strong points. Some of the most talented and long lasting musicians can't read music. However, these musicians may struggle in participating in a Film Score. Playing by ear means that you have to somewhat remember what you did. Sheet music puts it right in your face.

Yes.... I have played with awesome musicians that play by ear, and they are able to improvise flawlessly and quite fun to play with. They can recover from mistakes quickly and usually have great stage presence. However ...I think its important to at least understand music theory and be able to recognize chord structures and timing signatures. I wish I had learned to read early on. I would have had some cool opportunities....Thankful for the great opportunities thru having "an ear" to flow :-) Thanks for the input ....very good points.
