So glad you'll be doing the Recap Show at the Olympics! I saw the original debrief and had a little chuckle, but your analysis was worth waiting for. You were the only one I heard explaining Korbin Albert and Lindsey Horan's positioning.

I agree with you Tobin about Mallory. She is a hustler. The assist she sets up, as well as the things she does that a lot of people don't see. I hope Shaw and Croix soak up what Mal does. Both of them will eventually build up arsenals . I'm really ralling for the US team.❤

if only they had worked ashely sanchez into the team more. horan has seemed off for a while now and if we are being honest i don't think she should be starting. korbin and rose are the better midfield pairing and if rose is injured again then we should give jaedyn the start there.

Hello Tobin. Thank you for a US video that was not all jargon and said something worth listening to. I do babble on myself in comments, in my own way trying to be positive. So many try to belittle women's football, which I watched for years before I discovered KZbin. For some reason your team positional play explanations made me think of Chelsea away to Real Madrid in last season's WUCL. Guro Reiten was injured and Niamh Charles stepped up and played like a star. Perhaps some of the US team might do the same at the Olympics? Good luck USA. Nobody gave too much away or got injured in the send off games. Compare this to how Germany lost a key player needlessly to an injury this week.

I was at the Costa Rica game and it was kinda disappointing. I thought Horan and Albert were completely awful in the midfield. The high heat/humidity (104°F) and terrible pitch did not help us either.

Albert i thought was fine, but Horan has been awful for a long time. she should be phased out of the team after the olympics.

also in particular Soph had a shockingly bad game. so many chances she should be scoring on and she couldn't get the right shot.

It would be cool if you had a tv screen showing the costa rica game behind you, pausing it where you wanted to point things out and maybe some arrow sticky notes to show tactical movement

I recall an interesting moment in the Costa Rica match where Jaedyn dribbled into the six, past 2 or 3 defenders, then passed to (I think) Mal which lost the possession. Had she just continued her dribble, she could have opened enough space to get a good shot. Jaedyn is very imposing on the dribble, 1v1, 1v2, 1v3. She could be very good in the box against a low block defense.

yes Jaedyn had a good game once coming on and i think it might have gone our way if we had her start instead of Horan. Horan has looked bad for a run of games now.

More soccer junkie analysis. In particular, I notice some passes go to open space (no one is there to receive the pass). Is this because the passer expects someone there and they aren't? Or does the receiving player think they are suppose to be in a different part of the field? Basic miscommunication?

Great recap. Always easy to understand. Appreciate her knowledge. Tobin- get a new pair of glasses that don’t always fall down and need to be adjusted while talking… distracting from all the great stuff you always share!

Fast. Fit. Now we need finesse. I think the pieces are there but it’ll take time. Replace Horan with Albert already and let her and Coffey gel. Use Shaw to sub out Lavelle she deserves more minutes too.

I dont think the set piece takers are the problem. I LOVE Soph but she absolutely refuses to use her head or develop as an aerial threat. For a decently sized forward Rodman lacks skill heading the ball. Mal is short. So our front 3 doesn't have a target player in the box. Lindsay is it basically unless we can bring CBs forward and even there...Tierna did well that one game but she in her career isn't a dynamic heading goal scoring threat on corners. Lindsay would be a 4th option as a target for a lot of teams and she's our 1st.

And that segways me to the midfield trio. Coffey & Horan lack speed, athleticism and quickness and can struggle to clog spaces or stifle counters. They struggled with Mexico's counter and press for these reasons and it's my main concern against more talented & more athletic teams. Rose isn't going to be defending much. We have to be willing to play some long ball at times unfortunately. Korbin, Coffey & Rose gives us more defensive stability IMO even tho we won't bench Horan.
