I remember thinking that since no horror movies really shocked or disturbed me that I’d watch one of the gore videos. I watched a cartel execution video and I was almost sick. I was utterly disgusted and revolted by it. There is a huge difference in seeing someone being killed in a movie or a tv show and seeing a video of a real person being killed. Because it hits you that it’s real and that person had a family. I still think back to that and how disturbing it was. Safe to say, I never watched any more gore videos after that. It still sends a chill down my spine. The world is a messed up place.

As someone who's been through a "gore phase" I can confidently say it is a weird form of self harm. I do not understand how people watch so many gore videos so confidently. The one video I remember was a girl splattered on the road (her intestines were everywhere and so were her limbs, she either jumped off a building or got hit by a car) and the mother scooping up her remains and crying. That video made the my stomach drop and made it a bit hard to sleep that night. Gore videos are hard for me to watch not because they scare or gross me out but because the thought of that being my loved one really hurts. I would never want someone I love or care for to go through that torment and trauma.
@arrianagreen64732 жыл бұрын
Just to add, I’ve seen more gore videos than just that one. They have showed me how evil a human can get and how the mind can go to some really dark places. While I do agree these videos humble you and make you feel gratitude and appreciating for your life.. I feel like a few videos should be enough for one person for the rest of their life lol.

I have borderline personality disorder. With that comes chronic suicidality. Literally every day several times a day. Almost every hour of every day. I have attempted suicide many times. I got into gore in my late teens. I discovered videos of suicides and distraught families. They are never fun to watch but they have tremendously helped me. I see myself as the the person who killed them selves and my loved ones as the family and friends left behind. There's so much to learn from gore videos. Only some people are just not mentally healthy after seeing these things.

viewing gore sights definitely depends on you and your situation. for some, it can be extremely traumatizing. for others, it can be a reminder of what death is, and how horrible it can look like and be. i think about death a lot, which is why personally these type of videos affect me. i think about the person, how afraid they might have been to die. i think about experiencing that for myself, and think about myself in their situation. these don’t exclude suicide videos, just because you have an impulsive trigger happy hand doesn’t mean you’re not scared to die. it’s sad to see some of these peoples bodies to be disrespected.

Yea literally there's an image that was uploaded to regular reddit a couple years ago (so post sanitization even) and it isn't something I like, regret seeing or anything because it was a "look at this happy ending" but it was someone who had been mauled by a bear, like their hospital intake photos. Their head was half gone. They lived and the plastic surgeons made them look human again. How much that image has stuck with me is proof that anything worse or that wasn't shared for a good purpose (it was like r/humansaremetal) would never leave my brain. For me since I'm in the medical field it's not a big deal since it's literally the most graphic photo I've ever seen besides a sky burial I accidentally scrolled by yesterday and that was just a yikes skeleton with a raptor by it lol and I was like questioning my life choices of not blurring nsfw on my new reddit install lol. And like, when I think about that bear photo I immediately think of the "after" photo and the surgeons and the person and their family. I can't imagine having an image just chilling out in my brain where there is no "after" photo. Edit: went back to look at it, the before photo has me physically shaking but the after photo makes me so effing happy. It's so much better than I even remember it the surgeons worked an absolute MIRACLE.

I see a lot of people surprisingly mourning the loss of some of these sites. I understand that it can give you a new perspective on reality, some can even disregard censorship and just show you what he reality is. But i feel like a lot of the people are mourning for the wrong reasons, apparently some people are addicted to watching extreme gore and find it cool or funny? As someone who has seen the pinnacle of what people can do , from simple beheadings to children being skinned alive or having their heart ripped out of them while their alive in front of their parents, its safe to say that this content has desensitised many people (myself included) and has negatively changed peoples outlook on life. Some gore videos should be acceptable i think, such as those in nations at war that have mass civilian murder like in South Sudan and Israel or Palestine. However i think that showing what cartels do and what terrorists in general do is a bit backwards, they want you to watch it, they're gaining heavily from it, even if they just upload to other sites its a much smaller audience.

after learning how homans can be a disgrace, after taking a look at some of these shock videos, i think i just became more ignorant about the world, trying to avoid thinking about it as i could, it still today, i'm very ignorant about the world because it just makes me feel sick, these uneeded aggresion acts against minds that could be compared to ourselves, i think i've had more empathy after all that as well, but i dont like thinking about it.

I am so relieved that this era is coming to an end. I can’t stand gore, because of the way it makes me feel, the unease it gives me throughout the day, it became so bad that I physically couldn’t handle seeing them without puking. My “friends” thought this was hilarious and kept sending me bait and switch links to extremely shocking videos. I used to tell myself it wasn’t real but quickly learned that a vast majority of them were. It is disgusting, and really fucked with me, and still does. I never thought of it as a way to grow up, in fact, I think it’s against human nature to want to see those things so I was constantly questioning the sanity of others. The most harmful thing for me was that it made me question my own sanity, because I kept on thinking about it and had, like you said morbid curiosity. I thought there was something mentally wrong with me.

I'm surprised stileproject is hardly ever mentioned in these documentaries. Definitely saw stuff on that site that I never need to see again. It still exists in sanitized form... pretty much just porn now, but used to host some very unpleasant and disturbing videos and images. One such was a video of a woman in some middle eastern country being punished for stealing something. Her hands and feet were chopped off with a machette, tossed in a pile, and then her stumps were torniquetted, wrapped in grocery bags.. she was forced to walk on her leg stumps, and then put on a bus by soldiers to fend for herself. I think she was drugged or something, because I can't fathom how she was conscious. Fucking barbaric. Saw that shit, like 25 years ago, and it is still burned into my brain. Morbid curiosity is not worth the damage some things do to the psyche. Innocence isn't all bad.

It isn't lack of empathy, more than likely it's simply just burnout. Your brain tends to disengage while watching such content as a way of protecting itself, repeated exposure to it ends up becoming something similar until no reaction is available anymore. Same thing if you start working in waste collection, the smell after a while stops being noticeable due to prolonged exposure and your brain telling you that everything is normal.
