@Xuilin_ My guess is they saw the success of Branded and it's many extensions and are capitalizing on that structure. There are two issues with this approach however. Issue 1. Regardless of whether the deck played fusions, rituals, or synchros, the Albaz decks required alot of maindeck investment that made it impossible to play a bunch of non engine. Issue 2. The OCG has better rarity systems and the banlist isn't hardlining decks to either be unplayable garbage or full power. Konami of America's banlist and rarity system trying to milk every cent out of players exacerbates these issues. Now we're seeing the results of that with people like Jess quitting, Euro players outright refusing to play what Konami was clearly pushing for the format at their last YCS en masse, an inability to attract and retain new players, and local scenes shutting down. There are simple fixes to the situation that Konami of america can adopt, but they refuse to entertain them as long as "line go up".

Well Poplar was crucial at the time since it was a great consistency boost having 3 broken effects. I wouldn't say SE was unplayable b4 it tho. It just saw too few representation. And for what you see in the ocg, they may even ban it tomorrow and the deck would still be top tier. OSS, poplar and SE Ash have been crucial at sending the deck over the roof in lower power level formats. But now having two crazy generic engines in FiendSmith and Azamina, makes banning any of those singularly not enough. Just get rid of Flamberge and Promethean. The engine will always be consistent enough so just kill the pay offs for playing it in a degenerate way.

I just dont get the thought process here. This entire decks design philosophy is the definition of flying too close to the sun, repeatedly, while having seen what happens when you do that 2x beforehand. Snake Eyes with Poplar was already the best deck. Yes Sinful Spoils are the lore theme so they were destined for more good support but who the fuck is the fiendsmith and why is he here? Every pro could at a glance lab out a way for fiendsmith to make a free rank 6 which just leads to full combo or a free negate. So we now have a very strong deck and add even more onto it with azamina. You literally had people playtesting the deck you are about to add support for live on tournaments and it was the best deck by far... A lock anywhere couldve prevented this or just not printing half of these in their current form.

The TCG way is to milk the problem for all its worth before solving it, they didn't get rid of Baronne and Savage Dragon when every other format has them because they cared, they did it to force everyone to pay out the nose for Fiendsmith by removing the now-cheap competition because they had no confidence in INFO or their own creation Mimighoul to sell packs.

Not everyone can switch to a new deck every 6 months.
@dariuspenner25284 ай бұрын
@ autobotstarscream765 The TCG banned Savage and Baronne because they’re problematic cards that have had calls to be banned for ages now. Savage was a staple end piece of annoying combo decks like Adamancipator and Synchro Eldlich and was also used in Danger Thunder Dragon decks back in TOSS format. Baronne managed to find its way into every deck that could maybe sometimes make a level 10 synchro and had calls to be banned back in Swordsoul Branded format on release because of how strong it was. And then we’ve seen both cards used in every unbreakable board ever like in SHS and Mannadium. Like it or not, SE end boards became a lot more tolerable after those two got banned since now your stuff actually gets to resolve. SE sometimes making Dies Irae is still infinitely better than contending with Savage and Formula Synchron into Baronne with an Apollousa on board.
@autobotstarscream7654 ай бұрын
@dariuspenner2528 It hasn't staunched the bleeding, but it's infinitely better than *EVERYTHING* ending on Savage Dragon, Baronne, and Apollousa simply due to sheer boredom of everyone seeing the same thing every time from every Deck, and the departure of the two Synchro omninegates igniting a Renaissance of TCG customers, so are you saying the OCG and Master Duel players are wrong on this one, especially when Master Duel lets them and Maxx "C" run free but hits Dark Dragoon of all things?

I have no idea why things like Tear and Snake-Eyes can exist without some sort of lock. Tear should have locked your Extra Deck to Fusions only, maybe unless using Visas as Material to keep the lore and mechanics tied. Snake-Eyes should lock you to Pyro mid-combo (to allow other decks to make use of Original and Ash) via Poplar and/or Flamberge. We have decks like Abyss Actor that can't even use THEIR OWN LINKS once they use their Qliphort Scout clone. Granted, it doesn't actually hurt them 99% of the time, but compare that to Ishizutear. Two entirely unhinged sets of cards with zero restrictions used in combination in both player's turns. They MUST have multiple R&D teams that do not communicate as much as they should.

Why Azamina and the good stuff only fit SE not White Forest/Goblin? Because Azamina is the corrupt "pet" version of the Witch and Snake Eyes is what Witch hunt and tamed.. Meanwhile White Forest is the past when they still a "white" or pure.. Goblin biker is just supporting cast Its the same like all the Branded, Despia, Bystial and all the "dark" support is benefit Albaz or Branded deck not Swordsoul, Tri-Brigade or Icejade(supporting cast in lore)

@@syaefullrizcky And yet _Spriggans_ of all things got cross-support with Branded beyond one or two meme cards like Tri-Brigade Mercourier. 😂

At this point, I just want to see the clash of the tier 0 Snake Eyes vs tier 0 Ishizu Tearlaments and see how it would go. Free the Tear!! Albaz lore and Visas lore are some of the well designed story. They both have robust archetypes in them and each can play their own. Let's talk about swordsoul, icejade, tri-brigade, and spriht in the Albaz lore. These decks have their own play and doesn't have or have little synergy to the Albaz/branded archrtype. And in Visas lore, there's Kashtira that's part of the lore but doesn't relate itself to Visas. This Snake Eyes lore is just like making archetype powering up Diabellstar hundredfold.

Ahh yes the tear players in the background crying for Kit to come back yes bring back kit With your names at 1. Because while EVERYONE is currently playing 18-20ht, Bystials in the main, and Tempai/ritual beast playing shifter as well as protos-RB obviously-you can do what exactly…ohh pass turn? Hmm yeah that’s what I thought

at my locals almost no one runs snake eye, but its all tenpai and yubel, and i hate it cuz of oppressive boards or the massive amount of non engine that tenpai does and one cards kills you under shifter. thinking about quitting, also malchummy is just so that ocg players can have a maxx c in worlds
@christianacosta48464 ай бұрын
I just hate that’s any 1 card gets there and it’s just stuff the rest with as much non engine as possible, I think itd be fine if this required consistent 2 cards that couldn’t really play through hts but nah and they won’t change the formula of strong 1 cards

SE been getting stronger, but that mainly has to do with the amount of SS the Deck can make.

Snake eyes are not going to get hit IMO especially with this new support coming out. They with hit the ash and Flamberge to 1 and I think that’s about it.

What I don't understand is, why the heck do people keep acting like SE completely overshadow and destroy everything in OCG, calling it crazy, absurd, blah blah blah while it literally only take 25% representation, literally just equal to Tenpai, and BOTH combined can't even reach 50%. In OCG SE even full power never account for more than 30% representation, worse than many T1 decks in diverse formats in the past, yet TCG people keep overreacting like no decks can be played other than SE, calling it dorminant T0, wtf ? What kind of brainrot that make people ignoring facts to overreact like that

I see the point you're trying to make, there is some merit to it. The issue is, we're missing the top-cut breakdown, this is a breakdown for the entire tournament. The fact that Snake Eye has this much representation after being in the format for a long time, that Yubel players have pivoted back is not what people who didn't like Snake Eye wanted to see. Very much like for how long Tear lasted (and I loved Tear), I have come to understand just how much that deck destroyed the enjoyment of the game for many casual players and local tournaments here. From what I understand (I could be wrong), but there is genuine love and interest for YuGiOh in Japan in a way that isn't there in the TCG regions, we don't get many products and accessories without having to import. A lot of the voices of many casual players here often get crowded out, there are not as many product offerings for non-competitive players. So these things combined could lead to more people leaving the game. ROTA released a lot of good water support, and to basically not even see it, is discouraging. We need a few more tournament reports to confirm it, but it essentially looks like business as usual in terms of the format, without any change.
@yugimumoto14 ай бұрын
is this a best of 3 or best of 1 format tournament? from the amount of tenpai I think this was a best of 1 format which is what the majority of the ocg plays. in a best of 1 format, tenpai has no real counters outside of maybe getting a paidra ashed as you can't reasonably main deck something like threatening roar.
@christianacosta48464 ай бұрын
Idc about representation but the gameplay just isn’t interesting, because I defended tear at similar hits and similar representation. The gameplay for se is just 1 card combos and a million starters that all do the same thing. Tear had multiple cards that did different things and couldn’t even play 20 nonengine which is why se isn’t as fun
@gabrielshimabukuro5464 ай бұрын
For the love of god Josh needs to watch any Diabell lore, first of all he says why theres no SS for the other archetypes, not only they have one but his example was WW the deck that got SS deceptions, YOU CAN SEE SILVY AND RUCHIA ON THE CARD ART, its not that complicated, the card even has the GY effects of the WW spells but on the end phase. And another thing is WE HAVE A GOBLIN BIKER SS, from VBEX 4 we know that Globin Crazy Beast ate Sinful Spoil Aethon we even have his Azamina verision (Azamina are the original demons of the SS) Sol Eryscithon, same stats and type, so we just need to wait to see his SS version. On the same set we even got A White woods card so its strange to use them as example.

Realistically, banning Flamberge + Oak outright kills SE (because without Flamberge and Oak, wth do you do once you've activated Temple?). Technicalyl playable, but just so ass that no one would bother. But if it's a bigger banlist, hitting both Yubel and Tenpai as well should change the meta a bit (Tenpai put at least Sangen Summoning to 1, Yubel at least putting Opening of the Spirit Gates to 1).
@alexbrangan28854 ай бұрын
If this upcoming banlist isn't a massacre list, we need independent ARG-style tournaments to come back. I don't care if Konami strips TOs of their ability to sell product. Nobody but big spenders is gonna buy it anyway. Better for the community to make its own banlist (with blackjack! and h**kers!) than huff more copium trusting the devs to do the right thing. The players forced Konami to acknowledge Edison and support events for it. They can do it again.

Let me cook for a sec: Ban Called by and Crossout like cards. Limit Handtraps so they only work when you don’t control any cards (kinda like Imperm). Limit access to handtraps so there is only a set amount of them allowed per deck. Limit bosses (except for those archetypes that need two like Salad or Dreammirror), ban/ change one card bridges (like Yama for Fiends and Closed Heaven for Fiendsmiths), ban generic draws, ban none archetypal floodgates and limit/ban access to generic boss monsters and otk enablern. Finally if the changes mentioned above don’t do enough introduce a destiny draw for turn two. Yugioh wouldn’t be about: „me make big board me win“ anymore and more about resource management and finding initial synergies between archetypes (like between Yubel and Unchained, Fiendsmith and Musket, Ice Barrier and Ghoti or even triple synergies like CB Springans Tri-brigade and Branded). Also cards like Labrynth set up would become way stronger. Again don’t get me wrong. This isn’t a 100% fix (Rescue-Ace and Memento for example would be totally broken as they have near infinite grind), but it would be a good start in my opinion to slow down the game again. Im also aware that this is 100% biased as I love midrange/control strats and Im totally aware that some archetypes like Unchained would be completely butchered (1 Rage, 1 Anguish, 1 Abom and AUS, no Yama and SP). But well Im just a MD nerd that really enjoys the game. So what di you guys think? Am I right or am I wrong. Pls let me know Im happy to discuss with all of you.

On the card design topic, I think the fault lies not in snake-eye itself or fiendsmith, but moon of the closed heaven. 50 bucks says that the fiendsmith cards weren't tested with it because it was a jump promo, and as such was designed in a different wave and\or by a different team.

One statement: The modern design of the game is a problem in of itself. Second statement: Players keep going to tournaments and buy Konami products and digital purchases (being of Duel Links & Master Duel) surrounding YuGiOh, so Konami will keep making shit card designs like this to keep those players interested and attracted in the competitive scene to "support" the game. The whole push for versatility & utility in card & deck design gotten in Konami's head to where they keep making generic engines, staples. handtraps, and deck themes powerful and/or impactful when they should be regulated, more conditional, costly, and/or restricted enough to limit where they can be played and/or the potential of their gameplay. But, who cares of this information?!?!? The game still gets supported, and that supports greedy Konami, so if y'all have a problem with that, consider either crying about it and continue complaining constantly or do something (in the most well-mannered, respectful way) that will force Konami to not only respond but also take action because whatever y'all are doing that would try to get to Konami isn't working at all.

Snake eyes gets all the love because Konami chooses to make its money by squeezing the competitive yugioh players. Most companies make decisions based on the casual auf=dice because its always bigger than the competitive. But not Konami. We are in a cycle that will continue. From now on Konami will ALWAYS design and support one deck to be much better than all others because its the way they have chosen to make money. As long as competitive players, and those who inspire to be, are willing to buy the best cards: they will continue the cycle.

Can Konami PLEASE stop making a good deck and then spreading the support over 5-7 fucking sets? I remember the days when you bought a meta deck and you got the cards from one set and you were good, maybe in the next set you got a cool upgrade that was cheap. Snake Eyes getting good cards, money cards, across Age Of Overlord, Maze Of Millenia, Phantom Nightmare, Infinite Forbidden and now Rage Of The Abyss is fucking ridiculous. This game will never be affordable to budget and new players if they keep doing this.
@Hanvri4 ай бұрын
Enough time has passed and I'm gonna say it now. Banning barrone and savage has had a more detrimental impact on the meta, banned them now they have an Omni again. I was fine when they had no access to omnis but now they have an even easier access to an Omni than they had before with barrone.
