The Decline of Gaming

The DECLINE of gaming is here because I said it is.
Games are getting worse. Whether it be through buggy, half-built launches, formulaic games taking over in stead of actual creativity or the onslaught of microtransactions, gaming has on the whole been declining in quality.
Make no mistake, gaming is more profitable than ever before. Games like Fortnite, Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty Warzone, God of War and so on may be lacking in many ways, but profits is not one of them. Even games like the new Saints Row reboot have an outstanding chance of succeeding because they are falling in line with the formula of bolting on trends instead of staying true to their fans.
What's actually declining is the quality of games as companies try to find just how little they have to do in order to get people to buy. Cutting content that used to be there day one and then selling it back to you at a premium.
At least, the shining beacon in all of this are indie games. Indie games have been cranking out many of the best games in the last decade. Games like Risk of Rain 2, Ready or Not, Factorio, Kerbal Space Program and so on show us all that it's not just us getting bored of gaming, but that these AAA game companies are bored of making the innovative ones that build their companies.
So enjoy this video on the downfall of gaming as I describe the many plights in detail with some jokes and memes along the way!

The Saints Row reboot ain't got a chance the majority people who know the game hate it people ain't falling for the height train anymore that game is built on nothing more than hype the people who are going to pick the game up and then play it for 4 hours and then realize wait I beat the game remember it only has 25 missions basically meaning anyone who picks the game up is getting scammed and they don't care

I forgot to mention I don't disagree what you're saying I'm just saying the reboot is Dead on arrival the majority of people going to pick it up is probably around 300,000 or 600,000 that's not enough to sell a game you need to at least multi-millions to make a game profitable after the reboot flops that's it Saints Rows dead again volition will be dead once more

Interestingly enough, the gaming industry is probably looking at a drop in consumers over the next few decades. To put it simply, theres not enough people in the younger generations to fill the gaps created by the natural attrition of the older ones. Millenials are heading into their 30s/40s, and the group behind them, the zoomers, are a considerably smaller demographic. What this means is that if the industry wants to keep revenue at similar levels, they have to maximize the revenue of each individual consumer. Unfortunately, this will likely mean doubling down on "games-as-service" type practices. Companies will probably continue to push the boundaries of what's considered acceptable monitization until they it collapses their segment of the market.

Yes there are, just because there's not 5.5 kids to a family doesn't mean there won't still be millions worldwide who buy into games. There were way less people in the 1980's and if you scale it to modern day numbers, gaming was probably way more popular then than it is now.

3:28 is why nothing is going to change especially in the triple a department. Everyone complains relentlessly about call of duty and assasains creed being formulatic yearly released with barely any content changes while Rockstar releaed gta5 for the 7th time, but they proceed to buy those games repeatedly. Even if you get a bunch of guys together who just want to make a good game with lots of replay ability, 99% of the time the higher ups just see the money bags elsewhere then they bastardize the games by forcing the devs to implement. That's why games are in the situation of getting some recycled crap released today while having one banger of a game like doom eternal/elden ring, playing a game from years ago you know is good like portal or super Mario world, or taking the indie game risk by either getting a absolute banger like early days minecraft or you get a terrible piece of trash that seems like it was found on the 38th page of new grounds that is just a remake of slender from 2012 but in space. Even multiplayer games get ruined because some idiot on the other team can report you for just having a gaft with you buddies and you say some edgy inside joke

I too prefer games from 200-210. Those shoddy dice carved from bones are still awesome. But for real. If you crave games from your childhood you have a serious trauma and can not let go nostalgia. Or you were one of those gamers that came for the fame and then would have left anyway. I'm actually glad when all of you trend gamers leave the scene as fast as you came about. When the actual gamers are left alone like it has been until the mid 2000s.

When it comes to modern games, people play them and whine, but if they really wanted to see change, they would go play something else. If people keep shitting out bricks of gold for every new title for that dopamine rush of Game: The Game #241, nothing changes. Another thing that I think applies the most is people play the same games and then say it's all boring. Going outside of my comfort zone made every title I play, including the ones I already owned, much more enjoyable. One criticism I have with this video; I see a LOT of Cyberpunk 2077 clips. I think the issue there is CDPR tried to be everything at once. I played through it, the campaign was unironically really good. Not phenomenal, but pretty emotional at the end, which- caught me off guard. They should have picked one thing and focused on that. Companies need to stop trying to make "The Game Of All Time TM". I don't give a shit about your graphics or RTX ON for every pore on a character's skin, if your gameplay mechanics are fluid and your execution of your idea as a game is good, that will do better. Reboots are just the Disney move of milking previous popular titles. I guess what I'm trying to say is, play the fun stuff, stop giving companies money and time for their poor effort titles. Good vid as always Fleekazoid, I like the new direction, kinda reminds me how I wanted to make a commentary on the state of VR a while back; And ho-boy do I have LOTS of things to say if I ever get to that.

But the best part was the plot, narrative, gameplay, pacing, and the conspiracies that tackle complex subjects, and real life problems in and engaging way. (With sci-fi mixed in with it.) Best bit is that there was you didn't need the smugglers den DLC. I wish the game was remastered.

I’d actually argue in favor of remakes, at least the good ones like destroy all humans and SpongeBob battle for bikini bottom. Yes they’re cash grabs that reek of the early to mid 2000s; but they’re also bringing beloved older titles to newer audiences with some great quality of life adjustments to give a more complete experience that couldn’t be accomplished previously with the technology available at the time.

My favorite game has; -An open world -RPG -A UX design that takes up 90 percent of the screen at any given time -Objectives that probably mirror what the toilet looked like after 3 days of taco bell and white castle -Crafting mechanics that are supposed to justify exploring the world, but I usually just find better stuff -Skill trees that usually don't feel like I'm progressing at all, or once I hit a specific perk make the game easier than getting cancelled on twitter -A god-awful story that had either little to no thought put into it, is too revolting and "Made for a modern audience" for me to care, or is SO complex, that I'd need to do 50 years of homework before I even booted up the game. Also micro-transactions.

I feel like they will always continue to "optimize" their content for more money or to save money. Like how can they save time with cutting content and bug fixes when these stupid idiots will keep buying the game yearly anyway? This is why I look at smaller companies that make AA or Indies. Like I understand there are recent games that are amazing and there is companies that do good with those titles but it just feels like more and more are looking at the cheaper alternative like a mobile clone scaled for PC/Consoles.

TL;DR for people commenting while ignoring the video Games are now made by marketing meeting instead of developers that consume enough cocaine to become it's own cartel You know, like the "good old times"

. . In terms of sales, the new Saints Row reboot will do just ok for the first 2 or 3 weeks. But after about a month, the game will slowly fall off. I dont think it will reach its projected sales figure that Volition has set. This game is just way too divisive and it angered most of the OG fans that wanted it to go back to its true gangster roots of Saints Row 1 & 2. . Instead, Volition decided to go full on hipster and cater this game mostly to the alphabet community with all this dumb fruity tooty hipster bullshit, and because of that, it will affect sales. . Like I said, I can see this game doing fine for the first few weeks after launch, but dont expect it to keep selling big numbers for years after launch. . If Saints Row 1, Saints Row 2, Mafia 1, Mafia 2, Sleeping Dogs, Godfather 1, Godfather 2, Scarface: The World Is Yours, both Getaway games, and both True Crime games werent able to even sell 10 million copies each despite being some amazing bad-ass gangster games, then what makes anybody think that this hipster game will get anywhere close to that sales figure? (I just looked it up and Sleeping Dogs sold 1.75 million units in its lifetime) . I dont even see this SR reboot selling 5 million copies, much less 10 million. Volition will be lucky if this thing sells maybe between 500k to 1 million in its eventual lifetime sales. . It just doesnt have the longevity or lasting power that the other GTA-competitors had which I named above. Unlike those other gangster games that had fantastic gangster stories and bad-ass characters, the story in this SR reboot looks awful & the characters look like some cringe college kid Twitter geeks. . This game will come and go. It'll have some hype surrounding it for the first few weeks of launch and then it'll die off quickly just like any other short-lived fad.

Volition really had the perfect formula with the first 2 games. If they didn't want to make a gangsta game with 3 then make a new IP or red faction.

The problem isn’t money. The problem is idiots spending money on shit. They couldn’t keep making games worse and worse if we didn’t keep buying worse and worse games. The consumer is to blame. Not the companies.

One thing people completely gloss over (probably because they don't know) is the fact that these businesses need to BY LAW make as much money as they can for the stock holders. The interest in never in the creativity or the fun of the game, but that the game sells and that they make money. Wall Street is your enemy. I honestly don't know why people don't bring this up. It's always about the greedy CEO and yes, that part is true, but there's more to it than that./
