Live webcam feed of "The Decomposing Piano" which is a semi-permanent outdoor installation at the NAISA North Media Arts Centre, exploring the effects of the Northern Ontario climate on an upright piano. The upright piano featured in this feed was gifted to NAISA in 2017 after spending many years in an unheated cottage on Eagle Lake, Machar. NAISA installed it at its new location at 313 Highway 124, South River in order to explore the effects of the Northern Ontario climate on an upright piano.
A ruined piano is a piano left outside in a natural environment for an extended period of time (see bolleter.wixsite.com/warpsmusic for further insights). With the gradual "decomposition" of the piano over time, new sounds will be uncovered with the aid of contact microphones and subtle forms of material born amplification. Through its entire decomposition process, the public is invited to play the piano and experience its transformation over the next year to 2 years.
🔊 New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) is a sound-based media arts organization near to Algonquin Park. NAISA presents sound sculptures, transmission art, electroacoustic music, videomusic, new art, and the art of sound, through performances, exhibitions, broadcasts, and 3 annual festivals: Sound Travels, Deep Wireless, and SOUNDplay. Operating since 2001, NAISA is partially funded by Ontario Arts Council, The Canada Council for the Arts, and The Department of Canadian Heritage.
