De Luce Brera / Album The Pilgrim Composed by Shaun Davey 20.The Deers Cry: Rita Connolly, vocal; City of Glasgow Chorus and orchestra. The lyrics are taken from Kuno Meyo's translation of the 8th century poem sometimes, but apparently incorrectly, attributed to St. Patrick and alternatively entitled `St. Patrick's Breastplate'. The opening words in the original Irish, `atom-ruig' translated here as `I arise' have also been translated as 'I gird myself'. This prayer-poem served as a prayer for protection against the perils faced by medieval travellers.

I have listened to this for the first time in 17years as I personally chose this for my mums funeral. I miss her so very much and wish I had been there for her so very much more. Absolutely gorgeous rendition and though hard to confirm, no reason to think not penned by St. Patrick, as ancient tradition records. Patrick was a profound Christian--a missionary to the Pagan Celts and so as the author of this sublime prayer, not fashionable these days but don't let that keep you from listening.
