fandom veteran here: people loved to hate on furbies from the very beginning. in the pre-newgrounds/youtube days, it was super common for people to make flash games to express their anti-furby sentiments. like, i cannot stress enough to you that they were *everywhere*, much like the similar anti-barney humour that was common around that era. .... it was the wild west out there in geocities land.

I wanted a furby so bad when I was really little, and over the past couple years I've fallen in love with them again. I still don't have one of my own, but I've needlefelted a couple for fun (one for my friend that I put doll legs, stockings, and massive high heels on, and one miniature long furby with a bendable body), and I kind of want to make more again sometime. My favorite is the original 1998 design, but the floppy ears on the furby connect almost make up for the awful meme integration.

I Will Never Get Tired Of Learning And Hearing About Furbys. I Used To Play With The Furby Boom And The Connect With Their Respective Apps. I got my first Furby yesterday, she's a Tomy brand tie dye one (japanese), and she's busted basically, can't turn on anymore, but she's adorable, shes a bit faded on the front but that just makes the fur look pastel colored. I've been on a Furby video binging and tutorial reading and I managed to take off her fur to give her a wash and a brushing since the fur was matted with dust from being a display piece. Now she's there, sitting amongst my plush toys and sleeping, I hope I get her to wake up someday, but right now, she's with me 💕

if you're comfortable taking her fur of again you can take off the plastic shell as well and turn the motor gear to see if that works! a few potential issues she could be having are battery corrosion, rust in the power compartment, faulty electronics, or just a stuck/loose motor! i've had the motor issue with several of my furbies and the best way to fix it is by taking off the plastic shell. look for a small horizontal gear under her right eye (the eye on the left when you look straight at her), you might have to use a flashlight to find it but on most models it should be there. use a small screwdriver or paperclip to turn it in any direction (make sure there are batteries in the compartment while you're doing this), and keep doing this for several minutes. i've had furbies that took 40 minutes to hours to turn on using this method but it works a majority of the time. again, this can take if she still doesn't work/wont turn on, put batteries in the compartment and close it, then repeatedly hit the closed battery compartment against the palm of your hand a few times. sometimes it takes several tries but i've also had that work in a few cases. if none of this is working, double check the battery compartment. if it's corroded (you can tell if it is by looking closely, if it has a white/blue powdery substance stuck to the metal then that is leftover battery acid from corroded batteries and it could be blocking the power supply) then you can mix lemon juice and baking soda together (i've heard distilled white vinegar can also work in the place of lemon juice but i personally have not used it) and dip a q tip or toothbrush in it to use that to clean the corrosion. it should start bubbling and dissolving, then you can wipe it out normally. this also works if the battery compartment has rust in it/on the coils. if she still doesn't work, you either have a dud or faulty wiring and components :( i'm sure she's still fixable but i don't know how to resolve any issues past what I said earlier as any other issues would probably require much more technical knowledge than i personally have. good luck with your furby!

furbys are Very Cool i love the modern furby fandom, it's probably the most wholesome fandom I've been in. very niche and supportive of everyone's furbys! (at least on tumblr these days) I have 11 furbys and all of them are customs or oddbodies, and i also have a lot of my own furby lore. my longest furby Crysanthimum is a nature goddess, her twin Ozymandias (weird insect oddbody thing) is the god of death, Poutini Popover (furby baby with moth features) is a crime-commiting child turned world-famous popstar and her older brother Rooster (a dragon furby) is just doing whatever hoping Poutini doesn't start hacking into government databases. Cherry Coughdrop (furby face glued to a rainbow high doll) and Miniature F-boy (furby buddy with ken doll limbs) are best friends and trying very hard to stop Fruit Punch Jello (crochet rainbow longish furby) and her husband Blorbo (purple Mcdonalds furby) from being evil. Agatha is a haunted mask (furby mask) that possesses whoever wears her. The Pigeons (Mcdonalds furbys) are pigeons. and Eggs (custom Mcdonalds furby) is doing something! idk what they're doing tbh. i love furbys so much i am making lots of furby content

i find that coolant pipe is MUCH cheaper and easier to find, at least online. i'm not sure if it works the same, so a slightly thick guage wire from a hardware store could also work as a substitute. best of luck if you do decide to longify your furby!

i have 3 classic furbies - coffee furby named lucas (on my pfp), german blue turtle named turbo, and a coral furby baby named boo. also there's a fourth one on his way - a red wolf named arson (he's corroded, but i'll try my best to clean him up when he arrives). all of them have their own personalities (i made them up but shh) lucas is possessed and a criminal. boo is a lovely little darling who likes to give kisses, and yell, and hold knifes. turbo just tries to live day by day, she's the braincell holder (she doesn't use it for things other than speaking german though). arson is either going to be lucas's partner in crime or they're going to kill eachother. or both, you never know.

About the furby not working, dont give up hope!! Ive seen some people revive them... But it really depends on what is the problem... I actually got my first ever furby during 2012, a cotton candy furby. Sadly, I don't have it anymore because my uncle threw it away a week after because he didn't like it. I now have a rain cloud 2012 furby, because I missed my cotton candy one. The furby boom app was really fun when it originally came out, I finished it at least twice before, and while I didn't love my furby boom as much as my cotton candy one, I still never let it go and I (HOPEFULLY) still own her to this day. Furby connect was hella expensive, but I still got one around the time they came out because it was my birthday, that was the only birthday present I got that year. They're much cuter when they're off than past furbies, I don't really know why. Furbies are great, and now I own 5 originals, which are my favorites because of how much cuter they are than modern ones. I love to adopt them and clean them, keep them safe.

I actually did have a Furby that would wake up randomly and just would NOT go to sleep, even if she was in complete darkness. I now know that it was likely a glitch with either the battery pack or the tilt sensor, but that didn't stop me from being freaked out as a kid. I eventually donated my poor insomniac Furby, sad to say, and it took me until I was a teenager to get another one. Luckily, I've never had that issue with any of my subsequent Furbs. :) I hope my poor original leopard Furb got a good home somewhere. She was a good Furby... I just didn't know what was wrong with her, and it scared the snot out of me because I was only a kid, lol! I hope she's still out there somewhere, in the hands of someone who will treasure her as she deserves!! (I called her Tah because I misheard the word Kah, which is I/me in Furbish!)

@@xephrou it's np!! also in terms of suggestion, the detail u mentioned about how people were scared of their furbies briefly turning on without batteries reminded me of how in the first childs play movie there's a pretty infamous scene where it's revealed that the good guy doll never had any batteries in it, I think it would be kinda a interesting to see a video about how much that movie actually effected the perception on both electronic toys and dolls, but that's just me lol. loved the video and look forward to see future videos!!

Okay so no “fake story bullsh-“ I vividly remember when I was a young child my mom had a furby from the 90s and she gifted it to me when I was 5, for some time it worked fine, until it stopped working. To prevent battery corrosion, my mom removed them. My furby didn’t work anymore due to it’s age. In 2012/13 I was around 7 or 8 years old, and well, even though the toy didn’t function anymore I still played with it. One day, I was playing on our patio showing my friend my furby, she said it was scary. It was the middle of the DAY. I opened its mouth to pretend to feed it after my friend left- and all I heard was that electronic gear-like sound the eyes made when it blinked, then I looked at it and sure enough, it actually was blinking. It didn’t make sound but the eyes started moving and the mouth did too. I had a huge imagination when I was a kid, so I convinced myself that it was actually alive and not a battery-powered toy considering it was working two/three years later when the batteries were removed. So I told my mom about how my furby was working again and how it’s alive, and my mom didn’t believe me because she removed the batteries a few years ago. I’m an adult now, and not too long ago I was talking to my mom about this childhood memory asking whatever happened to that furby, and she said she visually did remember this happening that she threw it out because it freaked her out. To this day, I still don’t know what caused it to start working randomly.

I have both the 2nd gen "Owl" & "Giraffe" furbies, named "Stormcloud" and "Leopard" because "Giraffe" resembles a leopard more than "leopard" I also have a Gen 1 "Baby Pink"

I loved furbies when I was younger, like obsessed. And I love learning about all this again, I knew about furbies since furby boom, but I loved it so much I watched the old commercials and all the old versions too. I want to get one again, thought the furbies I had don't have it's app anymore, which is ashame because I lovedddd that game. I also really want the Tropical furby but that's so expensive. thanks a lot for the nostalga

I love Furbies, I just got 2 90s ones of ebay this week. Koh-Koh (Witch's Cat) and May-Lah (Snowball). I grew up with the 2012 Furbies and I've started collecting them, as well as having a couple Furby Booms. Never did have a Furby Connect just because they were so damn expensive. I'm so glad they came back in time for their 25th anniversary, I'm trying to get all of those colors as well.
