I've been saying this for ages, but in spite of the limitations UnWiished had, it's level design would have perfectly blended with the HD version's formula. I would do absolutely anything for a Remake of Sonic Unleashed that while primarily built on the HD version, was also a hybrid of both versions of the game. The simpler SD stages can serve as the "Act 1" which gives players more time to spend as the Hedgehog in the story levels. They would also get cosmetic touch ups to make them feel less empty. And since the optional stages of several locations had entirely new areas not in the normal acts, they could be fused together to make the SD Day stages longer. Whereas the more complex HD Levels can serve as the Act 2 (with the exception of perhaps Cool Edge day since Location wise it makes more sense to have the reverse order). This also gives players more time to adjust to each areas mechanics (which were consistent with each other in both versions) would make medal collection easier with more opportunities (especially if they became given based on rank like in the SD version) and allows for the player to gain more experience and level up earlier in the story, which makes mastering stages and rankings easier. This also goes for the werehog. I know a lot of people's initial reaction might be, "BUT THAT WOULD BE SO MUCH WEREHOG!" But it actually wouldn't. The SD Werehog stages are actually just one HD length Werehog stage cut into 3-5 sections and you can see where the next one begins at the goal rings. This would also be coupled with quality of life improvements I imagine, such as a drop shadow and fewer instances the battle theme actually plays. Once again, the simpler SD stages would help you get a massive boost to your exp earlier in the story, and you're better prepared for the HD stages, both in terms of mechanics, and in leveling. So your Werehog experience will be significantly smoother. As for the bosses, aside from the Dark Guardian, the level design was exactly the same in both versions so no change really needs to be made. (Aside from Dark Gaia, for the love of pete the SD version's phase one needs to be used and not the HD version) So yes there would be more Werehog which I know not everyone would like. But it would be a smoother experience with quality of life improvements to both day and night. There would be significantly less stress on medal collection, and time spent on day stages would double. This to me would be the definitive Unleashed experience and I would LOVE to see it happen. It probably never will, but I would love it nevertheless.

The thing that definitely made the Xbox and PS3 versions more recognisable were the fact levels were not empty. Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy the levels in this game, But it was around the end it got good. Like Crimson Carnival Day, as it was more like an actual level, rather than being an hour long marathon of pain in the XBOX and PS3 I also like how they took you to slightly different places. Like that church at the end of rooftop run, And the level starting at a place in the jungle during jungle joyride. Even the cherry blossom gardens at the end of Dragon road. (Dragon road is also more isolated around water) It’s these little things that made me appreciate the PS2 / Will versions.

I always wanted to have access to the blocked part of that one extra level in Adabat! Thanks for the exclusive footage of the area I wanted to explore for so long. I suspect they were going to build more levels for Adabat and the game in general, but they never got to finnish them (they likely had to cut Mazuri, for example, because of debut time issues), and this was one of the unfinished/unrefined areas, but instead of scrapping all away, they turned part of them into this mission things. Glad they did so!

Only thing id say is better about the wii/ps2 version is that sonic’s boost run is a little improved in terms of animation because they dont send his legs flying at hyperspeed, Instead his legs actually get slower which is far more accurate to the rules of speed and momentum

I've always found it funny how we all call it the "wii version" when it was the same version released for ps2 (and Xbox I think, but I never played an OG Xbox) only difference was controller set up. Which was also the only version of the game I ever finished, mainly because you had to have enough medals in 360-ps3 version to play the next stage which was such a pain in the butt. I wish both versions were on PC, like an official port, I could never get emulators installed correctly. 😭

It's interesting to see that 2 of the jungle joyride bonus missions were actually part of the same map, with a small unused section in the middle. Also it turns out that 2 of the Dragon Road missions are also part of the same map, and it makes me wonder if they planned the PS2/Wii version to have 2 days acts per zone, as these mission levels are on par with the main acts (when combined). Also in this mod you can see another one of the Jungle Joyride mission maps in the distance, no idea if that one was meant to be part of the stage or not.

A refined version of these levels, with full length Wii adabat and somehow using the other Wii bonus stages to a fuller premenstrual might make for some great actual act 2 or 3 levels in a definitive Unleashed version. Also, the mechanics of boosting on each panels giving you extra high speed rolls instead of those pointless forced uninterruptable dash panel rolls from later games would be nice, as long a bevy of small control tweaks.

I wish the Switch had some demos for newer Sonic games. I've only ever played Sonic Heroes which was fun. I really wanna play some of these other games though. I play a lot of demos. Games are unfortunately too expensive for me being indigent pretty much. I have SMOdyssey and absolutely love it. I've been playing it for a few years. I take everything really slow and try my hardest not to fly through any video games. This Sonic game looks so fun 👌.

As someone who has only played wii unleashed this feels so off in so many ways but its still cool nontheless. minor thing but to me what sets this game apart from other boost games: segmented boost. This just looks weird without it. other than that physics are clearly off but what can you do, its gens, not unleashed for wii Drifting looks wrong, maybe too wide i think, air boosting sends you flying, boosting feels too fast for these stages... Not to mention stuff like tiny 10 rings, boost draining faster on water... Still cool to see a part of jungle joyride i never knew existed or dont remember it cause i havent touched that stage last time i played this game

Many of us would have wanted Sonic Unleashed on Wii exactly like in this video, but it couldn't be done for obvious reasons, as the graphics capabilities of a Wii are not the same as that of XBOX 360 and PS3, thanks to the low graphics of the Wii version, the game has a lot of 3D, also I find it excellent and it feels very good to play.

To me unleashed on the wii is better mainly because of specific things like how you don’t have to collect medals to progress in the story I hated that in the console version. There’s other stuff but then I’d be getting too into it so lemme know if u agree or disagree
