So many negative comments. Just sit back and enjoy the music and be thankful for the guy who took the time to record this great performance.

Many years ago, I had the honor to spend a bit of time with these guys. It was back when Mike Bubb was playing bass for them. I spent most of the time talking with Del, Ronnie, and Jason Carter. They sincerely are as kind and decent as they appear. Class act all the way. We were backstage and a lady had sent back an old antique lampshade with Autographs from every bluegrass picker you could image - Monroe, Carter Stanley, and soo many more! We sat back there just going through all of them for a good hour. We talked about the road, picking, family, different areas of the country we had visited and some of the pickers that came out my home. I have met many well known musicians but these fellas will always stand out!

I doubt you find anyone anywhere doing anything who would seem to be having as much fun as Del is having. I think he'd be a great guy to meet. And he's great to listen to on his XM radio show with his funny quips.

Thank you so much. The Del McCoury band still has THAT sound, taken to the highest level. I rarely enjoy 'traditional' bluegrass to such a great extent. Sad to see he's having some memory difficulty, but his rhythm guitar is still so powerful and his voice so rich.

I see some folks comments as to the sound- folks this is the way Bluegrass is performed! You have consummate Pro's who sing with harmonious purity comes from many Decades of performances outdoors at concerts staged all over; sometimes the sounds not so clear but they are so tight just bend your ear and I think you'll hear the musical memories ingrained from so many tours /performances...and you're damned right they have an inprompto good time;not trying to stick to worn out lines or stories-rather they just are so comfortable they just be themselves and since each one is a genuine class act they just let 'er rip! That's what 1st caught my attention when just a young man in the 60's,at the 1st bluegrass festival I got hooked;Doc;Vassar and Scruggs;Osborne Bro's who's high lonesome harmonies got the wax out of my ears;too many names to list but the best had a rapore that was infectious- I had found my Music-and I've adapted to the many changes;genres and meshing new styles;new instruments new takes and interpretation of old classics;and I've watched the C ircle become inclusive of multiple styles;groups that have worked with the old-timers-both becoming the better for adapting,changing yet holding to the heart and soul of the Mtn's and streams and Hollers where the Irish/welsh old world found a new home lo the many years ago-I'm so glad and grateful for the spread across the country of music that's real as Moonshine;old as the Appalachian Hills,pure as Country water; no matter where I go it always takes me home!

Well anytime you get to hear true back home hillbilly music ..not this rock a billy stuff they have out now that is far from the roots of true country music then it is a good thing. Be it off key or whatever as long as its back home and from the heart its the best!!

+TheMemphisSlim Del does not use monitors. The bass player has an in ear but everyone else relies off the stage sound and they sing so close together they can hear each other naturally. They are one of the few bands that still do it this way but they do it well.

As to the sound on this clip... The single mic technique is NOT the reason it isn't so great. Given the crowd sounds, it appears that the sound track is just a room mic. It might be that there wasn't a recording from the mixing board, but that's what I would use, given the otherwise excellent video. In fact, I'm guessing that the sound was just captured from one of the video cameras. Not optimal, but maybe that's all that they had access to. You can hear on other KZbin videos that the single mic can work just fine, quality wise.

+morenoise Single mic gives a great sound for these instruments, they are all built to sound great together acousticly. The technique they all use moving towards and away from the mic depending on what sound they are after or who is playing a solo is also a part of a genuine bluegrass sound, and these guys are just as good at that as they are at playing their instruments. There is also a choreographic aspect. These guys use a few mics, but the idea is the same. As few mics as is practical is the best, IMHO. These guys use some really great equipment, and the sound guy does his job you can hear that (makes a huge difference). The sound at the event was probably super great. Whatever this is recorded on made a shitty recording of a great sound.

Great band but useless at using microphones. This "one mike" style might have worked on radio in the 1940's where that is they had but on a big outdoor concert stage it flops. The vocals are so way back they might as well be in the audience. What about using a modern way to present this excellent band in a more audible way?
@briankeith286
@briankeith286 10 жыл бұрын
Couldn't disagree more, I have a recording of this band using only one microphone. Their mic dance is an integral part of their sound and style. The solos are always present and their harmonies are well balanced, largely due to the fact that the band is used to balancing themselves, If you don't like their mix, I'd blame the sound man before I'd blame the equipment.

Brian made a spot on assessment. If you want to see the same guys, minus Del, though often with guests, using modern mic techniques, then you should check out their other band, The Travelin' McCourys. Look up "Delfest late night 2014" where they play with Jeff Austin, formerly of Yonder Mountain String Band. I was there for that one. Good times. With Keller Williams is also good.
