when I was researching for my ceci nest pas brilliant purchase, I stumbled across an article which talked about the beginnings of the surrealist movement and how it was writer focused. not just focused but how they believed that words were the only real avenue into full expression of humanity. there was an article somewhere by Breton (I never did find the original article) where he said that poetry was a pipe. So Magritte was playing with words so much more than the obvious play. he was also rebutting Breton, asserting painting as other, but just as valid ....yada yada. anyway thought you might appreciate that tidbit.

Oh yes! Much of the origins of the movement started with poetry and prose with the intent to create "unexpected imagery" (in contrast to Dadaism). Many writers in the movement were originally adverse to visual arts being included, since they felt painting and the like, wasn't able to embody spontaneous creation in the same way writing could. It's very interesting! I like both 😁

Glad to know another Delvaux lover. I own 2 Brillant MM. The Logo Buckle Noir MM and the Off-Piste MM with Fox fur handle ribbon. Among all my bags, Delvaux is definitely my favourite right now. Their quality and workmanship is on the top. They work with all outfits, whether it's formal or casual. As a guy, I am proud to say I carry them well!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Delvaux as a brand and your experience with carrying that gorgeous bag! I've been interested in Delvaux for awhile, and I got a chance to visit the boutique on 5th Ave in NYC last month. The craftmanship...the different styles.... the leathers...the beautiful colors... Just wow. Definitely stop by the NYC boutique if you happen to visit the city in the future - it's a real treat. ☺ And even though the bags can be up to 50% retail on the resale market, I wouldn't have a problem paying full price for a new one - that's how impressed I am. Have you seen the Lingot bag?

It came to my attention that Delvaux doesn't really hold up their value on the resale market... Which is a huge factor why I wouldn't necessarily go out and buy a new piece from a physical boutique... But as a Belgian, I do have Delvaux on my wishlist 👀 More specifically, I'm on the hunt for a preloved Regard Passager which came out in 2009 and sadly is discontinued nowadays... ☹️ Thank you so much for the video! ♥️✨

It's true, Delvaux doesn't do so well on the preloved market. I expect in part because it's not as "hyped" a brand. But yes there are then some great preloved buys to be found! I wish you luck in your search!

Delvaux is a fabulous brand. I’m more a Tempête or Madame (now discontinued) person, but all models are good. To me they’ve always been an intellectual brand, i.e., the Magritte collection, the Midsummer Night’s Dream collection, etc. To my huge regret Delvaux no longer has a creative director after Christine Zeller left a couple years ago. They are now owned by Richemont brands, so who knows what direction they’ll take in the future.

I saw rumors that LVMH was looking into buying Delvaux. I really hope whatever happens, the integrity of the brand will stay true 🥺🙏

@@classicswithaquirk Think the rumour is that LVMH wants to buy Richemont and all their brands. For Delvaux stans this could mean the demise of the brand either because it is a small, niche player, or as you say, the integrity of the brand changes to a more mass-market LVMH product.
