So true. When my qualified hunter passed, his buddy (thoroughbred) walked the fence line neighing constantly. He was worked up with worry. So I got him a nanny goat. They fell in love, were inseparable. So cute to watch them interact.

Grew up on the racetrack, many years on the backstretch.... I had a filly, Need A Dime, who always had to have her two goats with her or she'd go crazy! It's a regular barnyard! Chickens, roosters, goats, you name--it's there! Best time of my life!

That’s because race horses are deprived companionship and herd security from other horses being stalked by them selves and in a field by them selves so horses can’t hurt each other. Shame that concern for injury goes out the window on the track . Why have these horses become friends with other animals-because being alone is very insure and boring for a horse

True story which I call "The Conspiracy". I was taking care of a batch of 2 year olds at a farm where they had 2 goats that just walked around the barn visiting everybody. At the end of each mornings work I would close the sliding door as I left the barn and they figured out that would be the last they would see of me until feed time in the afternoon. One fine springtime morning I finished up, closed the door and walked off to my car - only to realize I had left my coat hanging in the barn. I walked back to the barn and slid open the door and walked in to retrieve my coat. Down the shed row on the left side were the stalls for the fillies and the hay room was on the right side. As I walked down the shed row out come two goats from the hay room each with a big flake of hay which they proceed to drag across into the stall across the way. So I walk down to the stall and look in to find the goats and the filly chowing down on the hay -- they all looked up, looked at each other, and then got this "we're busted" look. Now you could easily understand a couple of goats breaking into the hay room to chow down, but when they take care of their friends across the way you quickly figure out there is a lot more going on there than meets the eye.
