I lived at the hotel for 9 months when I was working at the so,at plant Ivanpah, the three towers just before Stateline. I stayed at Whiskey Pete’s for 2 months but Whiskey Pete’s smelled like vomit, too many drunk construction workers but I would eat dinner at the bar only, the hot dogs. At Gold Strike, I paid $25 a night for a room. It had 2 queen beds a sofa, it was like 2 rooms but on the top floor. I was able to bring a microwave and a small refrigerator. The restaurants were just okay but I would drive the Old Las Vegas Blvd. to eat dinner, it was too depressing at Gold Strike. I loved to relax after work to get into the spa and pool. I wish they would have made the hotel into apartments for hotels employees.

I have many wonderful memories at that casino. Its sad to see thats how the Gold strike is left. It really says how much terribles cares. My mother worked there for 20-25 years as she raised me and my 2 brothers. That place meant alot more to me than just a casino or memory. The deserted wasteland is called Jean, NV. Cool video. HA! I was just there (where your video started out). I think it was a bit of a railroad dump at one time (a RR Stop for sure). That area is worth sifting, I found old overall buttons and several brass era doors buried in the dirt. Be careful though, that particular area is UPRR Property. And much of the land south of that is Clark County Dept of Aviation. The 'future airport' land is heavily posted so be careful. "Lucky" is Lucky Lager, a very prominent beer back in the 60's. The other beer can you picked up was a Schlitz (The Donna's sing about it), you can drink both of those after mowing your lawn. Yes, that was a rattler. My money says it was a Mojave Green. It's puffyness in this deceased instance was probably more from baking out in the hot sun. The 'brew' going on inside of it was already drawing flies. For all the desert exploring you do it wouldn't hurt for you to study up a little on how to identify what is and what is not a rattler, their behavior, what to do if you get bit and to wear gaters. The forlorn Gold Strike, modern, vandalized, ho hum. I think the land is slated for future warehousing and they're gonna knock the hotel down. At the 5:00 mark, those are trailers that hold gliders. Good video, keep on keepin on.

That “some sort of beer can” was clearly a Shlitz beer can. I recognized it immediately. Used to drink it as well. The fact that it was opened with an old “church key” (meaning a can opener that would punch those triangle holes in the top) really dates the can.

I've watched countless "abandoned" videos. What strikes me about this one is that the hotel was only abandoned in 2020, a period of only 3 years. Most "abandoned" videos are of places abandoned for up to a decade or even longer. It was likely COVID that put this hotel out of business and this means that we will have many newer abandoned sites to explore in the upcoming years. Pretty cool...

It was closed by covid. Or truthfully, the shutdown caused by the plandemic. I have a lot of family in Vegas so I go out there a couple times a year atleast. Terrible's was my go to place for breakfast buffet on my way out of town. It was honestly, the only casino I consistently won money at the slots.

March, 2020... governments around the world started putting out, "closed," signs, and this place didn't mess around. Exactly like you said, they're like, "okay, everyone, clock out & go home. Byeee." They knew what was coming and decided not to bother wasting resources trying to deal with it all.

Nice video ! Word to the wise, don't leave your bike unattended, even within eyesight !!! There is a VERY good possibility someone lives at that hotel, and could make off with your bike in a flash !!! You'd be powerless to stop them, especially if you are as far away as you were. Here in my city the animal control only has 5 officer's for a three county area! Spanning several hundred miles! I’ve stayed at Terrible’s a dozen times. They had a cool bar with live music. They had a dope car collection inside the casino. The steak house was pretty good!

I worked for the Terrible Herbst Gas Stations in Vegas from 2003-2005. The Herbst family is big in racing, and not so big in securing their properties, obviously. Sad to see the old casino in such disrepair. Very upsetting.

I remember going in there a bunch back when it was the Gold Strike. I didn't know that closed down. It's eerie how the furniture and stuff is still in there, looks like a zombie movie set or something. I wonder how many people are holed up in there. Looks like the Herbst family sold the property last year to some developer that plans to tear it down to build an industrial park.

I stayed in that Hotel Casino 3 times a week as a truck driver when it was the Gold Strike and also at the Nevada Landing across the freeway where that huge gas station is now. Lots of memories, they both were busy and the room rates were very reasonable. Thanks for a look now of what once was a part of my daily life for almost 10 years.

Yeah, Nevada Landing had a Sunday buffet with crab legs and shrimp. Never stuck a dime in the machines, busted my butt to get ahead of schedule so I could hit that buffet on Sundays. Couldn't believe it when it closed and was tore down.

We stayed here once on a trip back from Las Vegas to LA on Thanksgiving weekend. It was a tragic, hot mess. The traffic took 18 hours to get back to LA so we ended up staying here. The laundry was sitting in the hallway. The ceiling height was only about six or 7 feet there was only one restaurant open a Denny’s that had three hour wait times Mold on the air conditioner and it was $35! So glad we came across your video!

That' hotel was weird. And wild to think someone decided it was cheaper to let it sit and rot then to try to sell off the equipment and furnishings. Back in the 70s I saw something sort of similar in terms of eerie / weird. A camping trip up to Canada and we stopped in an abandoned housing tract. Not movie style 'old ghost town' but a tract of houses very similar to the one I lived in at the time. Owned by a mining company as employee housing but the mine had closed. It was weird to walk among and inside those houses. Mostly moved out of but still had stuff here and there - bits of furniture, washers / dryers etc.

Tax write off for a corporation. I funny recall what hotel/casino corp owned the Guild Strike, but if they didn't sell it before it closed, each year it sits is a write off for fed taxes. Someone will decide they want it and buy it for an ungodly amount of $$$$$. I live in Las Vegas and my friends and I used to take off to the outskirts for the weekend. Gold Strike was the place we loved going to. It never failed for us to win large amounts of $$$$ there. That's where I won my first ever $1,000.00 royal flush on a bonus poker machine. 😁 Whiskey Pete's was another fun joint to start at to get away from Las Vegas for the weekend. Good times good times. 🎉

The Nevada Landing Hotel is where we would stay when we worked in Las Vegas (doing construction). We could stay there for around $20 a night mid-week when in LV it was much more. Gas was also a lot cheaper so the longer drive to work was not that bad. Eventually, my company opened a LV branch office and we did not have to go there as much... There was another hotel on the other side of the freeway where the gas station is at that was in the shape of an old paddle wheel river boat but it was torn down a long time ago...

Fun fact: The gas station has 60 restroom stalls. Wish he would’ve shown the two gold miner’s statues at 11:26 Regardless, he seems to have enjoyed himself. I miss exploring like this. PS: Here’s a funny story. In my city there’s a 90 year old tavern that opened to celebrate the end of Prohibition. It still had the original old-timey wallpaper like at 10:10 when it was bought by a new owner about 10 years ago. The owner wanted to keep the original look, but refurbish it. Since some of the wallpaper was in disrepair, he sought out the original design to replace it. When he couldn’t find the same color, which was kind of a mustard background with a maroon pattern, he had it custom made. It was later discovered/realized that the color of the wallpaper wasn’t actually the original color, but instead it had been gold like at this casino entrance, but was stained from 80 years of cigarette smoke. 😂

Stayed at Terrible's a few times and even been to the gas station. The casino had a collection of show cars including one of the original Batmobiles. There are several off road racing vehicle inside the gas station as well as a huge walk in beer cooler.

Nostalgic video for me. Thanks for posting. My brother & I stayed at Nevada Landing in Jean several times between 2000 and 2010 because I kept getting free room offers & it's not too far to use as the starting point for trips to the strip, Henderson & Summerlin. I remember back then there were 2 casinos in Jean, right across the road from each other. One was designed to look like a riverboat. That outdoor pool also had a nice, heated outdoor jacuzzi. Now both casinos are gone, but Jean still has the world's largest gas station & that Seven Magic Mountains attraction near Jean I think.

I was wondering what happened to it. I stayed there for an overnight trip probably a year or two before they closed up. It was a decent hotel, more of a truckers hotel. There's a huge parking lot, perfect for someone driving an oversize vehicle or motorhome or towing a trailer like I was. Inside the lobby, the collection of Hollywood movie cars and race trucks was cool to check out. Oh well, it was a decent place for the money and better than 'Vegas if you were on a budget.

I also didn't realize there was so much historic activity down there with all the dumps. Maybe from service stations or railroad stops in the area? @@SaltySouthTexan unless we're talking about something different you're talking about that truck stop. It's on i-80 in iowa. Truck stops and gas stations they don't classify them as being the same. Besides according to an article I read they only got 34 pumps. Compared to Bucky's with 120 pumps. Also I guess it's how you measure it. Because you're right is humongous. You said 40 acres and I'm thinking most truck stops are about that side so I looked it up again and it's a 225. Oh I'm not criticizing you are coming down on you or anything like that. I'm giving you credit for getting my interest again. And this is what I found: Why is Iowa 80 largest truck stop? Acreage: Iowa 80 sits on 225 acres, 75 of which are developed. Retail building square footage: nearly 100,000 square feet. Daily number of customers: we currently serve 5,000 customers per day. Number of truck parking spaces: 900

I imagine Hollywood set decorators would love to get their hands on the room decor. I used to stop there on my way back to SOCAL in try and win at least a hundred back in mid 2000’s. I played slots and they were pretty good to me. Nothing to write home about but I’d usually get a C note to cover gas. Most I ever won was $350. Always had the old Vegas feel to it.

Opened in 1987. I had been there several times. It, along with around 142 acres, sold for $44,700,000. Their plans are to demolish the hotel (what a shame) and turn it all into an industrial park.

I love how you respect the wishes of the owners. It says "Do not trespass", and you did exactly that. I've seen videos where people have entered this place, although it says clearly not to. Nice work. I remember when Nevada Landing closed just opposite of the 15 where that casino sits, and I always said, it's just a matter of time before the Gold Strike also closes. I thought when the big Chevron opened, that it would cause that casino to flourish again; but that was wrong.

In case nobody else responded to your question about what you were seeing at that airport. That’s Jean airport and the trailers you saw are for storing and ground transporting sailplanes (gliders). Jean is home to Las Vegas Soaring Club.

Great video as always, William. Years ago we stayed there, it was called the Gold Strike H & C. It was a busy place back in the 90's but started to slow down in the early 2000's. It will likely get torn down and rebuilt into a shiny new place. The Post Office nearby is in a town of 1 person, or so i heard sometime ago. Plus, the prison is very close, which made staying there a little tense. Thank you! 👍

Yes, it was the Gold Strike for many decades. I believe it was built in the late 1970's or so. Visited there in 1980's. Very eerie to think it's all gone now. Many decades of gambling there. I remember the 1¢ arcade there. 1¢ to play video games, pinball machines, and many others. I believe it was not called the gold strike originally. Can't remember the original name. This is concrete proof evidence that nothing lasts forever, everything comes to an end eventually.

@@truelies3690 Thanks, for your reply. We started going in the 90's, it was reasonably priced, maybe even cheap to stay there, and we always had a good time. We even got snowed in one time, that was pretty neat. Like you said, nothing last forever. Now this hotel/casino that was once filled with fun & laughter sets abandoned and will likely be torn down, and the Gold Strike will be only a fond memory for each of us to look back on. Definitely a pit viper dead on the road. You can tell by the spade-shaped head vs. the streamlined head of, say, a non-poisonous gopher snake. Wonderhussy, a fellow youtuber visited the hotel a year or so ago and it was completely intact with a security guard's car parked on the premises. The owners must have given up hope.

4:59 Those are actually small engine/glider-carrying trailers, you can take off the wings and put the whole plane inside of that trailer and take it on the highway.

The deceased snake looks like a Mojave Green rattlesnake. If I'm not mistaken, it contains two varieties of venom and is the most lethal of all rattlesnakes.

@5:10 Those are container trailers for sail or glider planes, they house the planes with the wings separated prior to take off the wings are assembled and either small propeller planes and a rubberized winch is used to launch them into the air. So, higher end sailplanes have their own motors whether props or jets. Hotter climates such as Nevada or desert areas are perfect ideal environments providing thermals from heat that can keep a glider in the air for hours at a time.

Actually Bucees's in TX has more gas pumps. I think like 120 + . They are known for the cleanest bathrooms on the road and they are. Probably 120 stalls also. I am sure they will be out there soon
