In March 2011, Syrian citizens began protesting oppressive government rule in the city of Daraa. Assadi government troops fired on the protesters, resulting in the beginning of the war in Syria.
Three years later, rebels are still in a deadlocked civil war with President Bashar al Assad and his sympathizers that continues to rip the country apart.
VICE went to Daraa to see out where the revolution started, where it continues, and where the loss to the people of Syria can be seen on every bombed-out street corner.

ISIL along with Jabhat Al Nusra where essentially mercenary armies, formed shortly after the war in Libya. These groups descended on Syria with Saudi money and US greenlight, they were also supported by Qatar, and Turkey and Jordan, they launched brutal offensives against the Shi'ite/Alawite regime of Assad. The US want's to wage war on Iran and it's allies Hezbollah and Syria. These jihadist's mercenary army flooded into Iraq, trying to oust Shi'ite backed Maliki, and to establish the Caliphate. Now these men who directly or indirectly recieved support from us are now looting Iraq's bases and cities. Keep in mind Maliki is closer allies with Iran than the US, our government goes out of it's way to fight Iran's interest's. Obama may not send significant aid to Maliki simply because he is a Iranian ally. Radical Sunni's are a tool for the NWO they fund them when convenient and kill them when it's convenient.

It frustrates me that the Islamic community in Australia bring these problems with them. I've experienced first hand what this civil war is causing people and I live on the other side of the world. Serious violence break out here because of the Sunni vs Shia problem going on, stemming from the situation in Syria.. Australian Muslims are leaving to fight in a war that they have no real place in because they think it will please God, it's ridiculous. Has anyone else experienced this ?

Another part of the world where the men have nothing else to look forward to in life but the next war. And Assad gave them their favorite thing with his own lunacy. Look at how happy they are to be fighting in the wreckage of their neighborhood at 8:39, the smiles and joy they display. Assad = obviously vicious. Most of the rebels shown = equally vicious.

The entire demeanor that these guys express while "two meters away from the enemy" is really surprising. They talk really loud, poke their heads out of cover while talking to the camera, and point their guns down on the street but not actively looking where they are pointing. Not to mention that walking through ruined buildings generates a lot of noise. I used to do urban exploration with my buddies and you could be able to hear someone stepping on piles of glass, damaged floors, and other rubble for hundreds and hundreds of feet provided that there was no wind. Sounds like those are amplified especially by concrete buildings. I'm convinced that they're putting on a show for the camera.

Love them or hate them, I'm always impressed with the resiliency of rebel groups like this. Smuggling in things like food, water, fuel, ammunition, batteries is very cost intensive. They must be very well connected and have a good revenue source or the group would have withered and died long ago.

Most of their food, water and weapons is only smuggled within the country. It pours into Syria from Turkey, Jordan and Iraq, courtesy of the Gulf arabs and Wahabis in Saudi Arabia.

I never knew Daraa was a city. I have an African muslim best friend I've known for 7 years who has always gone to Daara, a sort of church thing for Muslims, but he stopped summer of 2013, because he said all It was other Muslim teachers teaching you how to read the Qu'ran (I probably didnt spell it right). I wonder if it has anything to do with this city.
