The irony is, considering Theodore is thicc and has lips, he's actually one of the most accurate Tyrannosaurus representations in Hollywood history...

I wouldn't say that. There's more to anatomy than thiccness and lips. The body shape alone keeps him from being one of the most accurate. For a cartoony styled T. rex face, though, maybe.

It’s like they wanted to make a dark, gritty movie about people coexisting with dinosaurs but they opted to making it as kid friendly as humanly possible, warping it into a confused visual mess.

If I had a nickel for every live-action dinosaur film in the mid 90s that had a extremely tumultuous and controversial development, only to end up becoming both something far from what it was originally intentioned to be and a box-office bomb, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. Luckily Super Mario Bros. is actually a pretty decent film on its own all things considered.

When this film came out in the mid90s, my first thought was it is a sequel to the Dinosaurs tv series. But the similarity stops at the dinomatronics. I've always been a fan of practical effects over CGI, especially all the imagination and creativity that goes into creating animatronics/dinomatronics. Pretty much anyone can learn to create CGI but good luck trying to self educate yourself on creating and maintaining robotics.

Dino Diego, have you considered doing a review of David Bischoff’s 1980s Dragonstar sci-fi novels? I’ve seen them describe as “Jurassic Park in Space”. And for the Fringe Theories Iceberg, have you heard the theory about Maya civilization interacting with surviving Mammoths/Mastodons? The theory stems from a carving known as Stela B at the Maya site of Copan depicting what appear to be elephants.

It did at least gain a cult following on it for a movie by itself apart from the Super Mario Brothers Namesake. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnylqGqNqZaMhZI Plus was wondering why the dinos resembles Jim Henson's Dinosaurs since had Bruce Lanoi as one of the puppeteers to work on it. Not to mention William Stout also did some early dino designs that would end up becoming Henson's Dinosaurs. Oh and funny how I see 2 connections with Disney's Dinosaur with Walter Martishius and William Stout involved.

Now that sounds like an interesting movie: a dark scifi-action flick revolving around the pairing of a brutal human cop with a by-the-book saurian partner. Like Demolition Man with anthro dinos. I envy the timelines that got that while we were saddled with *this* lamentable disgrace. Hmm. Think it could be rebooted in its original, intended form? Modern effects, different title? Non-punny name for the male lead, fully anthropoid dinos, but with recognizable heads for their species, probably a selection of theros and hadros. I think that could work. Mmmnot "half-human half-cyborg". Being a cyborg is literally defined as being a human with mechanical prostheses or apparatus, so Coltrain was just a cyborg. Although I dunno why she'd need to be, seeing as how there's no visible parts that would suggest it (the badge doesn't count).

This reminds me, have you heard of the trilogy of books written by Eric Garcia starting with “Anonymous Rex”? It came out in 1999 and got a movie in 2004…

Yes, I have heard of them and they sound very strange but also crazy enough to be enjoyable. I'll have to pick them up one of these days

The concepts present what is probably one of the most creative worlds I've ever seen. It's fucking dinotopia, but in the sci-fi future, and that's kickass. It's a shame the movie sucks because this would make a goddamn amazing multimedia franchise.

"It turned...it just turned..." Sounds like Theodore Rex was Larry Finch's personal Apocalypse Now and he likely has war flashbacks about it with Whoopi

The idea sounds dumb but maybe some better directing could have helped with the tone and the animatronics do look cool if they started very early with a dinosaur world for kids or maybe cut half a dozen to make them better. Stuck between a serious crime drama with talking dinosaurs and a kids show with violence, the studio wasn't in the wrong to gravitate towards the family crowd but it was already leaning further towards the mature audience, that likely doomed any hope of a well made film. Plus I probably wouldn't want to sue Whoopie Goldberg even if I could win (and her refusing to settle probably racked up costs). I really hate when movies rely on starpower so maybe getting her to help produce the film and nominate a friend for tribute instead would have been preferred, but it sounds like she tried to act professional as filming went on. Admirable they kept with the project as long as possible but it was already shaky in concept before turning into a complete mess.

Watched it once, Let's just say I turned it off two minutes into the actual movie when my Girlfriend asked if we can watch Carnosaur instead, Trash-odore Rex was tossed under the couch and was forgotten for several years.

24:39 giving the judge a consultant producer title should’ve counted as a bribe, especially since his so called “recording expert” was wrong. In America you can’t record someone, visually or audibly, without their knowledge and consents.

wow if i had a nickel for every cop movie initially intended for an older audience that got dumbed down to a kids flick and had constant nonsensical changes pushed on it by the studio and actors I'd have like four nickels. I know its not a lot but still wth?
