In the Lone Star State, high school football is an institution, but for the Detmers in Southwest Texas, it's a family tradition.

Wow. Amazing video, almost cried there at the end. He's more proud that they are high school coaches than all of their other things. That's family right there.

The Detmer’s are my cousins. They are an awesome family. Used to visit them during the summer.I’m same age a koy. When ty won the heisman trophy me and him took a picture with it between us in his grandparents living room. I still have that photo. I also have his BYU letterman jacket. They have worked hard and earned what they have achieved, nothing was handed to them.

Fly eagles fly. I remember when coy was retired but came back to Philly because David akers wanted him to hold for him on the biggest stage. They both QB for us too. This was a great video! The detmers rule

Hopin' that Ty comes back to the Y as OC. Wouldn't that be awesome to have him coaching up his nephew, Koy Jr. What a great family of football legends.

Tell Ty if he is ever willing to pay a visit to United Middle School at Laredo where he played and talk to the football players there! That would be sooo awesome and much appreciated by the football youth! 🏈🙏

Sonny spent a year coaching at Martin H.S. in Laredo where I was the drama director. We didn't have much in common (except our dedication to youth), but he always had a kind word for me and always asked how my program was going. I sensed his sincerity. It was a pleasure to follow the success of him and his boys through the years. I write this after just seeing Ty at the Heisman ceremony and noticing that his smile is just as bright as it was those many years ago. Honorable family.

Wonderful Family, Ty we need you bad back at BYU, its time to give back even though you might not have College Head Coaching experience, just get a good offensive coordinator and a good defensive coordinator. You would be awesome and we need you here, think of the families who would be blessed to have Ty Detmer as their head coach, heck bring your brother. We need you bad and so many want you here.

Man, I wish I had not moved from Mission, Texas during Sonny Detmer's first year of coaching there. I would have learned so much playing for him -- instead I ended up playing for a Delaware High School football team that went on to lose 40 straight games and we never threw the ball, which totally sucked for me as I was a quick, little flanker who could catch any and all balls thrown in my direction.

I remember hearing a story about koy being a frugal guy, he would show up to the eagles training camp in a old used Caddy, he would wear cheap walmart clothes. Because he wanted to save that NFL money. Can't say I blame him.
