The annoying thing about us winning the lottery is exactly what you’ve stated. If it’s a market team like New York winning the lottery it’s, “how well will he fit and how far can he take this team” if it’s Detroit it’s “5 reasons why the Pistons SHOULD trade down in order to get multiple mediocre players and keep themselves irrelevant”. The talking heads get paid to spin garbage, and if the garbage favors a larger market, that larger market will tune in.

However, this situation is very unique because we’re talking about a team that’s not pursuing a situation like that and yet commentators are talking about who the Pistons can trade that pick away too more than I would’ve thought. Now certain factors play into this according to the media I suppose. Killian Hayes and Cade’s fit, Weaver’s comments, and Boston’s decision to actually do something like this before. It gets weird because the amount of people on board with the Pistons trading away Cade is ridiculous.

So they won’t even have to worry about those for a while. But when they do, you can fit a supermax and 2 max contracts on the same roster so a supermax in 2026 for Tatum (assuming he makes all-NBA a couple times) and a max for brown could fit with room to spare. Plus if it is over the cap, they have Brown and Tatum’s bird rights so you can go over the cap to sign them. And if they didn’t have enough, Smart definitely would be the one they let go not Brown
