Australia On Fire: In the grip of a bushfire disaster, many thousands of Australians have been evacuated by air from their homes. As the fires rage on, it may take months for them to return home. But there's another hidden toll to this emergency - the devastating impact on Australia's unique native wildlife.

No matter how much shit we take, we Australians, dig deep and work hard. You can not keep us down, not even a wall of fire.

You mean, we can dig stuff out of the ground, rear animals and farm? Soooooo about the same level of achievement as, the romans, the greeks, the egyptians, and every other 3000 year old civilisation could? Sooooooo.... 3000 years later and all Australia has to show for its self is still digging up dirt, animal husbandry and farming. I am guessing your definition of "hard work" is using your muscles to dig up dirt right, rather than using your brain to innovate or actually create something with a little value added? You are right though, aussies do "dig deep", but thats about all they can do.... dig.

@Dante Alighieri You UTTER FWIT! Yes, a handful of arsewipe losers (who have been caught, & will COP THEIR OWN BACK.. on the 'inside') .. lit a FEW of the HUNDREDS of fires. Not the rest of us, & us 'tree huggers' did NOT say NO to.. 'back burning' & fire reduction & PREVENTION. Do you even know the Ozzie Bush? Clearly not. We said no to EXTREMELY HOT FIRES, that are done too quickly & get out of control & TURN INTO fires that ignite everything in their path BEFORE the flames are even touching them! Do some research! We want to be able to get in & remove any wildlife FIRST. SOOOO much more to it than just that, but it'll just fall on ignorant ears. Worry about (& DO something) about your own country, if you're just going to spout regurgitated BS & misinformation mate! Bet you're completely unaware that certain TREES imperative to our native fauna.. become STERILE from extremely HOT FIRES. They do not regenerate. Our indigenous brothers n sisters know how to do it properly, and have been working with (TRYING TO anyway) this JOKE of a so called government. Amazing how many ignorants comment on our country, that know NOTHING. Go do some research, please!! SMH 🙇🙇🙇

The Aussie spirit has never been stronger. Our Aussie bushfire victims need our strength... And our goodness. I am so proud to be an Australian, but so pissed of with our Government. But truth is the Australian Bush Fires 2020 did not start with the Morrison Government but I sure as heell hope it ends. No proper plans in place ignorance towards climate change and our longstanding drought affecting has farmers are all contributing factors to our fires I believe ... And then tonight I read 185 Arsonists have been charged in the past 12 months. It is incomprehensible to me that another human being gets so much joy from lighting fires that cause mass scale devastation to both my fellow Aussies Mates and our wonderful Australian WildLife.

Drought, not enough rain during the Winter months, for long periods of years. No Autumn or Spring rains, long hot dry Summer days, lasting weeks at a time with temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. Dry lightening strikes and ratbag humans lighting fires on purpose. All catastrophic, only people living in Australia know how devastating bushfires are to our communities.

Not quite sure what NATO has to do with this. Australia is not a NATO member. If you're trying to say that NATO allies are not aiding Australia, then you'd be incorrect...while I can't speak to every NATO nation, I do know that there are American firefighters currently in Australia fighting the fires. And Australia has sent firefighters to the US in the past to help fight fires.

Watching this in-depth and respectful coverage of the impacts of our Bushfires on communities and animals I cant help but be proud and heartbroken at the same time. Im an Aussie but a safer distance from the horrific impacts zones my fellow Aussies are facing. Their character is so on full display here. Even when all they built is lost...the response is no Im staying and going to rebuild. Connection, community, identity and country. The tears also mixed with sad but broken humour is so typical of the Australian character. No need for showy brass bravado, just simple strength, reflection and commitment to get through this together. I feel so deeply for your loss. Have been donating each pay day to various charities and keeping my gaze in your direction sending love, admiration and hope.

Thank you for all the supportive messages from people around the world. The area I grew up in has been under threat and many friends there are at risk or have lost their homes. The house I grew up in was burnt to the ground, along with every other house in the small location of Pericoe, N.S.W. The air quality in the major cities is really bad. I have family in Canberra, Sydney, Wololongong and I am in Melbourne - we all have been affected by the smoke in the air. Both Canberra and Melbourne have at times had the worst air quality in the world as they are covered in smoke from the fires. The last few days I have been trying not to go outside it is so bad. And just thinking of all the precious wild-life we have lost, it's utterly heartbreaking. When I look at these messages I realise that there are people all over the world who want to help... help by electing leaders who will act on climate change. We are all in this together, let's act while we still have a chance.

So when you eat...look at your plate closely...and please look and investigate where your food comes from. NOW THAT"S DEPRESSING....Vegan for 8 years....and GOD how better I feel....physically, I don't care...but within...I'm not part of torturing other beings on a daily basis. My heart breaks for Australia. There is no feeling like watching your home go, not hearing from family for days, the immense loss of wildlife. I spent a good 15+ years in CA & witnessed many fires, but none on this scale. And the way they rally & take care of one another as well as the wildlife? Frankly, the US could stand to take some note.

I was in tears watching this, tears of horror, tears of joy, tears of pride, tears of sadness... we live in a high risk area and have been lucky so far.I really hope that insurance companies don't try and weasel their way out of paying out and if they do that they are taken to account. People have payed for years and are now devastated and do not deserve to have insurance companies turn around and do them over.

Because of increasing temperature, the bushfire season has been getting longer and longer, it has been too dry and dangerous to backburn the country and so the amount of fuel has been growing and growing. This will get worse and worse as long as global temperatures keep climbing.

I’ve seen a few comments that are disrespecting our country and say that our society is to blame for these fires, you need to do research you have no idea how much pain these people are in. Yes our native animals are dying we are trying our hardest to save as many as we can but humans lives can’t be saved aswell. Before you comment saying anything about our country do research, many things our government, councils wanna do we can’t control we know that they are doing some stupid things but it takes a lot to convince them that. All these family’s are trying so hard, starting from nothing and understanding that some of their family and friends have passed. It’s all hard for us and the thing is no one out of Australia cares, when the fires started no one knew until billions of animals had died everyone noticed and took action but they never cared when we said that 3 hero’s had died and others. We can’t predict the fires, thank you to everyone that is helping and sending prayers but I just had to get this off my chest.

No, we should only blame the government and Greens groups for not listening to the Indigenous people and landowners who have all warned of this for decades. They have closed up National Parks and let this fuel build up. This has nothing to do with consumption or any other green nonsense. The green movement is responsible for millions of native fauna's death.

Heavy rains right now would create another devastating emergency: Flash Flooding. The ground is phenomenally dry and in many areas may not be able to absorb any of the rain effectively. Consistent light rains for a couple of months would do more benefit for drought and fire stricken areas than any heavy rain.
