Well they now blocked me on Twitter... / Anw who's here for the NF🫖? PS: I was made aware that Chat GPT is not environment friendly (I did not know that prior to filming this video). I talked to my Discord community about it and did some research and found that it is not as bad as NFTs. Regardless, I understand the concern; ChatGPT is not a scam since it is not bought by random people and sold at fluctuating prices (up to 700$ like that Moonfrost license is). Anyways, as I said on a user's comment, I will not be using it moving forward. I think that a lot of people including myself dislike AI and NFTs not just for the scamminess but for what they represent in harm to artists/writers (chat gpt being one of the biggest uses of AI right now) and disregard for the human. maybe they’re not comparable but both have done so much damage to the entertainment industry and the people who peddle them tend to be so callous toward creatives, and it has kind of been the same group of people using both AI and NFTs. so I just want to stay as far away from any kind of AI as I can. hope that makes sense, not trying to judge just to explain. just found your channel and love it 💚

I love your content, and I agree that the environmental impact is not as bad, however, generative AI such as ChatGPT has other issues that harm artists, writers, game developers, and many other kinds of workers. They are being developed to save money for big companies without any regard for creativity, safety, or honesty, as a way to extract as much money as possible, as fast as possible, usually in unethical ways. And that's not even taking into account all the people who use them to scam, create fake news, s*xual deepfakes, etc. I personally haven't yet seen a use for generative AIs that wasn't either unethical, or completely unnecessary (just a bad shortcut for something you could have done without it, and often with bad results). So I think it's worth it for you to look into the other issues if you want to be fully informed before using and supporting them.

The fact that they got $6 million from investors seems to indicate that it's really about the quick money and not about actually making a successful game. They've probably already spent a lot of the money on assets they can hide and then will just quietly disappear.

Selling a game does not give you the kind of pre-release funds you need to complete the game, even early access cannot grantee that you'll make the necessary money to fully launch, in fact its very unlikely to. This is why game designers need to secure investors if they're doing this as their actual job, and not just as one guys 10 year hobby project. Gaining investors is a huge roadblock in game development, I've seen many amazing games by talented teams fall through on nearly complete games because of lack of investors. There are a ton of investors lining up to throw money at anything crypto. So essentially it looks as though this team likely "made a deal with the devil" to get their project out into peoples hands.

Not only does it sound pay to win, but they're wrecking their own market before even releasing it. The fact that they openly admit to giving away NFTs to 500 players before even releasing the game is a red flag to me that they're likely going to do a pump and dump as soon as the game is released. Just like crypto coin scams. That's my guess anyway.

They call it "play to earn" btw cause the NFTs are optional. But cozy gamers are notorious for loving to collect everything, so this will def target that behaviour of wanting to collect, thus eventually having to explore the NFT side (while not knowing that this was part of the game)
@TorIverWilhelmsen
@TorIverWilhelmsen 12 күн бұрын
@@MissBubbles "Play to earn" are often misleading because they usually demand an up-front investment to start earning - i.e. buying an NFT - and what you can "earn" is less than the minimum wage in most countries - even poor ones. So you start out in the negative and really don't "earn" past this first investment until you have played for a few months.

I'm not an expert on this, but there is no inherit gameplay or security benefit in using NFTs for in-game collectibles. If anything, you are introducing new potential vulnerabilities by decoupling your account information from your collectible inventory. This is, in my opinion, a ploy to drive additional funding from NFT speculation. And given how many NFT projects deflate or entirely disappear after the initial release, they have fewer incentives to make an actually good game. Time will tell, but I support your decision and thank you for your warning.

I agree with you, the main issue is the dishonesty. If you are going to use NFTs then just say "we're using NFTs". Because if the game can be played without needing NFTs and they are optional, then why be secret about it? Then they go on a rant on how it's hard and blah blah blah. Yeah things are different now but dishonesty is still dishonesty. Not to mention, there are still investors out there that still care about games so like why bother with NFTs when you know the market for them is down.

I once started working on an NFT game, thinking it was going to be the next big thing and the future of gaming. But as I got deeper into the project, I realized how easily the system could take advantage of people, and I couldn’t go through with it. One big issue was the ability to create unlimited NFTs, which would devalue the assets and break players’ trust. It just didn’t sit right with me, so I decided to walk away and promised myself never to make any games involving NFTs or crypto. Let’s be honest-NFT games already have a bad reputation, with so many of them turning out to be scams.

Yea the most charitable explanation here is that they were shopping their game around to investors, and the only ones that were interested in backing them wanted to add NFTs to it, and so they agreed and did everything they could to hide and downplay the NFT aspect because they know casual gamers would never go for it, so they're trying to walk a tightrope of appeasing their investors while not turning off the casual audience. That all gives the benefit of the doubt that they do indeed just want to make a cute farming game and that they're not actively trying to grift here.

You say collecting is a big part of cozy games and that might encourage people to buy these NFTs but I don't understand how this is different from not being willing to spend to get an outfit from an Infinity Nikki gacha banner for example. They want to sell their game so they're obviously going to avoid saying anything that will hurt that bottom line.

Thank you for calling out these devs shifty behavior. This is why you’re one of my fav cozy game channels because you’re very honest and raw in the sea of toxic positivity that gives excuses even on games that are objectively bad. Gamers have been so loud that we don’t want NFTs in our games, even if they are considered ‘not necessary’ gameplay. NFTs go against lots of peoples ethics for the environment and to not disclose it is objectively wrong and they know that. It also opens the door for them to try to push the envelope towards other non-consumer friendly mechanics in games. Plus if they are going to use NFTs as a crutch in their words, then I don’t have reason to believe they wouldn’t try to implement other forms of micro transactions. Sad to say but it lines up that some of them use to work for Ubisoft, who aren’t strangers for exploiting players and misleading them. They may be an indie team but they are using the same corporate tactics.

@MissBubbles well the way you described it sounded like the devs weren't the ones that wanted to add NFTs to their game, but got stuck doing it bc of the crypto company that funded them and now their names are tarnished as being creators of an NFT game when that's not what they wanted and they probably won't even make a profit from this. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

IDK, if you have a game that you're really passionate about making, and the only way to get the funding you need is to sellout and add NFTs in a minimally intrusive way to get investors, I don't see an issue? As far as disclosure, games that are in development don't explicitly state every single feature of the game, and often will even leave out describing big features with a motive behind it, often dropping hints but nothing more. That's just part of advertising. Imagine you made a really amazing dessert, and you want to share it with your family, but your family doesn't really like bananas, and there are bananas in your dessert. You are confident that they'll enjoy the dessert, its right up their alley, I mean you can barely taste the banana! The recipe wont work without it, but they are stubborn and you know if you tell them outright they wont even give it a second glance. So when they ask you "what is it?" instead of listing all the ingredients including bananas, you'll say "its a good dessert, sweet and tropical, trust me, just try it!" and then after they experience it for themselves without bias, you tell them about the banana. I'm pretty sure we've ALL done a version of this before. Im personally not a fan of NFTs, though I guess it'd be more accurate to say they just mean nothing to me, but I guess I really don't understand how it would negatively impact the gameplay here. The way they're describing it it sounds like the items will all just be items in game, and so long as you don't take them out of the game into the real world, the NFT side of the game basically doesn't exist? The fact that the items are NFTs wouldn't mean anything to anyone who doesn't care about NFTs in that case. Most media that uses NFTs sucks, we all know that, but that's more because the people making that media don't care about their media as a creation, but this game you can clearly see effort from the artists and programmers. I feel like its unfair to group genuine passionate creators with techbros just because they're sharing the same technology, and I think its completely reasonable for them to not advertise that feature openly knowing the outcome is an unfair bias from the audience they actually want to appeal to. If the game was meant to be an NFT game, they would advertise it, and the fact that they didnt, on a free game(so not trying to scam people into buying by withholding that information) gives me the impression they really want the cozy game lovers to give them a shot and experience the game for what it is, rather than turning away due to a stereotype. Of course I could be completely wrong here, but I still feel the bias is harmful. Just like with AI, anyone who isn't a techbro hears the acronym and flees for the hills no questions asked. But like, these things are tools, AI has been making artists lives easier since the dawn of art programs, we just didn't throw the word around so much. So when it comes to something like NFTs, yeah, nearly everything put out so far is a shitty or a scam or more likely both, and people should be wary! But to dismiss anything immediately for associating with the idea is like nuking the potential of a tool to becoming anything other than what it is now. Every technology needs to be honed to become something that can be a part of good art, and when it appears that someone is making a genuine effort to make a good piece of work with that technology despite the flaws, even if its out of necessity, they should at least be heard out. These things are nothing more than tools, and what matters more in tools, good or bad, is first: whose wielding them and second: who were reforging them to be wielded by. I will always eat the banana dessert, even though I dislike bananas, because I know the person who made it thought of me when they left out that detail, when they painstakingly struggled wondering how to get me to try the dessert despite that as they made it. They knew the dessert would be worth more to me than one undesirable ingredient, and by trying something with ingredients you dont like, even if the dessert really is negatively impacted by the banana, you're given new information on how that ingredients might be able to be used in the future in a way which you might even enjoy it.

It's not the same as NFTs. It's not a scam, it does not fluctuate in its pricing where randoms can buy and sell it, and there are no fakes you can buy (from the website I used). It is harmful to the environment just as much as Gmail is (which I had no idea either were harmful). In all cases, I did disclose on another comment that I rarely use it (ChatGPT) and won't be using it moving forward.

@@sleepyyapper also the video was not about the environment (that's a topic for another day), the main point was about not being open about the implementation of NFTs. So I hope things are clear. This game basically looks like a mix of oddish "Stardew Valley" + pixel graphics in the likeness of Pewdiepie's Tuber Simulator + a cupful of hidden NFT spices. Also not to accuse anyone or anything, but most cozy gamers are quite unfamiliar with the ins and outs of NFT trading, so they can be quite easy targets for scammers(tho not accusing the game devs here, it could be others). Alright Imma call it, again and again. This Moonfrost NFT(whatever the name will be) smells of a pump-and-dump scheme.

I would first tell that Dev, "Dude, I happen to adore the true pixel art aesthetic and I find your cell shading intimation of pixel art to be messy, ugly, and choppy." Followed by, "I want offline games that don't require me to connect to the internet in anyway. I want a game that isn't going to be crippled if the net has issues, or a company shuts down/sells off." Then, "NFTs are a scam, not, "Better tech". Keep it out of my games. KKTHX" ((I find it funny that they whine about not getting investors, that they had to use NFTs, while at the same time comparing their game to a project that was done by a single man, with no financial backing until after it became a success.))

If it's truly a good game, implementing NFTs "the good way", they would have had no issues disclosing it, attracting players, and letting the game's quality and community speak for itself. Trying to hide it just makes them look sketchy, and like it's actually a scam...

I really think games with a high risk of actual financial or psychological or social harm should be labelled clearly and not called cosy. Studies have shown that micro transaction are much likely to lead to young people experiencing problem gambling and gacha games are the same as gambling to the human brain. The fact a lot of cosy gamers are underage or playing because they have chronic health problems or as a form of escapism or in recovery for addiction or as a way of coping with grief and are therefore extra vulnerable to sneaky marketing yet there are no rails to protect them is sad. That a game with NFTs was allowed at an indie games showcase and had a booth with no clear signage about having NFTs or the dangers of NFTs (and gambling if there is any "luck" based mechanics, particularly if those luck mechanics also involve NFTs they want people selling for real money) show either the organisers did not know or did not care. Both are really awful to consider. Games with gambling and NFT should be clearly labeled and age gated. Again, we've known for years that exposure to gacha games and other gambling mechanics has a negative impact on young people so I am shocked that games that encourage problem gambling don't have warnings and let anyone download them while having graphics specifically designed to be appealing to young people and those looking for a comfortable escape (Infinity Nikki, Floatopia, etc are going raise a whole new generation of problem gamblers). Legal measures like Belgium outlawing loot boxes, failed measures like a german city that wanted to age gate games with gambling elements show signs of progress but if NFT games are confident enough to turn up to indie game showcases with no requirement to disclose show how far we have to go and how wildly little the indie game scene is doing to protect gamers. I hope you keep pointing out that games with dodgy mechanics should at least be open about what they are and not use synonyms or slang to try to hide what they are. Thank you ❤❤

I play a lot of eso (Elder Scrolls Online) and have a minor gambling problem. I like to get crates, and maybe get the shiny thing I want. I would LOVE to be able to sell all the junk I got that I don't want (I have so many mounts/pets I never EVER use). But if they offered me an NFT system to sell it, I'd uninstall the game. I'm happy getting currency IN game from selling my items, or even selling them to players who want said item. NFT's have high power usage, are often scams, and ridiculously overpriced.

So you cannot have NFTs in videogames without the blockchain tech. If you do not support blockchain you do not support NFTs; that is basically the sum of it.Stock market is like NFTs but there are rules around it and it is a very scrutinized market; while NFT like crypto currencies and other similar areas is pretty much free for all, so whoever has the best lawyer can get out of it (which means regular people will go under more easily). This is why NFTs are bad. Fundamentally they are not worst than stocks or less risky than any other bad investment you can make today, as if you want to lose money you can do that today in a thousands of scams that does not even require high tech methods to be honest. But what is dangerous is that there are no laws to protect you; while for most scams there are laws to safeguard you, unless you voluntarily sign in. And that thing they told you... "it is totally voluntary and not required" is exactly what makes people run 100 miles away from NFTs, because that is what makes you lock in into the scam usually voluntarily.
