Midas failed to push back the storm,but ☝, He accidentally opened an rift that we couldn't see becuse we were seeing john johns at that moment. The rift sent water from the water reality (or whatever you want to call it) the rift disappeared before we could see it. The rift brought water and caused a flood. Also midas's theme during the event is perfection

Good theory about Midas opening a rift, but the rest wouldn't make sense, it wouldn't have transformed into a literal wall of water if it was just water, I think that I.O. used The Bridge and altered the storm into a wall of water, making The Device Useless against it, Jones even said "how long do you think it will hold?"
