The Devil's Coach Horse

The devil's coach horse is a large beetle native to much of Europe and northern Africa. Even from birth, it is an aggressive hunter of other invertebrates, but its final instar is a truly fearsome subterranean nightmare. It raises its abdomen, spraying noxious chemicals from glands near the tip - confusing predators and prey alike.
You'll encounter the devil's coach horse beetle in the first levels of Empires of the Undergrowth's campaign.
