People can criticize dialectical-materialism all they want but really no other model or way of thinking explains things as well. Formal logic, mechanical materialism, metaphysical or idealistic thinking or reductionist or "analytical" marxism are all totally inadequate.

So Marx's dialectic more closely resembles that of Aristotle, Kant and the Scottish Historical School (of Ferguson, Millar, Robertson, Smith, Hume and Stewart). What few Hegelian terms-of-art there remain, well Marx tells us he was merely 'coquetting' with them. To put Hegel 'the right way up' is to crush his head. Hence, the 'rational kernel' contains no trace of Hegel at all. Sure, he called himself a disciple of Hegel, but he pointedly put that comment in the *past tense*.

should rallies have helmets too? is fighting the answer? is fighting a fight club: points only at head? people as straw pollers? for how long? during a rally? 40 hours a week? during the fight club? what is the use and use value of a straw poll?

Interesting talk. Is the talk Stacey refers to, on Kant and Hegel, also going to be uploaded?

He also called Hegel a 'mighty thinker', but one can call someone this and still disagree totally with them. For example, I think Plato was a 'mighty thinker' but I disagree with 99.99% of what he said. Marx also said his dialectic was the 'opposite' of Hegel's, but one can't get more opposite than to eliminate the latter's ideas totally. So, no wonder that summary was a Hegel-free zone. More details at my site -- just type 'anti-dialectics' into Google and go to Essay Nine Part One.

Fortunately, Marx abandoned this form of 'the dialectic' by the time he wrote Das Kapital. Proof? He added a summary of 'the dialectic method' (the only one he published in his entire life) to the Afterword to the second edition of his great book. In there, there is no trace of Hegel. No 'contradictions', no 'negation of the negation', no 'unity of opposites', no 'quantity passing over into quality', no 'universal change'... And yet he still calls this 'the dialectic method'.
