some reason I thought this was a John Williamson song. Great version and now I know Hugh MacDonald and Redgum wrote it. Thanks.

Yes, a common misconception on this song. The story was that Hugh was told the story on a Qld outback train and wrote the song. We have met someone in Opalton Qld that insisted that his old mate who used to do fencing on Old Cork Station actually wrote the song.....

Thanks Jay. The dulcimer was made by a luthier in Southern New South Wales, Australia, Richard Troughear (Mountain Dulcimers). Pickups, machine heads and sound hole infills Mac got from folkways in the USA. It is a "one-off" instrument that we've had for about 16y.
