Chez Mcewan Yes, for the WHITE MEN. Women could hardly EVER get a job. You see on "I Love Lucy" that women were treated as brainless kitchen slaves. As a man, I find that highly offensive. While I liked this particular song--- most of the 1950s is full of "hokey" music....60s were better.

It was great for only America. It prospered after the war as it suffered no destruction, bombings or persecutions. Europe was devastated by allied bombings of both military and civilian properties. @@bonjourpierre4778 - I get your point, but that’s only half true. The USA helped Europe recover from the war with the Marshall Aid Plan. Germany used the money well to invest in its industry and experienced the economic miracle of the 1950s with high growth rates. France likewise. Socialist Britain wasted its gift of Marshall Aid in building a wasteful welfare state, but still experienced decent growth rates. So yes - much of Europe did lay in ruins after WW2, but it did recover pretty quickly. Mind you, Britain only paid off its war debt in 2016.

The Gladiolas version has a latin beat and is really good. You can find it on KZbin. Check it out, you will like it. The Diamonds specialized in covering black R&B records and did this song somewhat tongue in cheek. (Note the exaggerated talking part) . But this version of the song is an absolute classic.
