I’m so blessed to have grown up watching Peter O’Toole, Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Preformance’s . There are no Actors such as these men anymore. Artists who were way above average of others. I’m fortunate to own many of their works . When Peter O’Toole died I actually cried because this world just doesn’t have that kind of talent in it anymore.

In my opinion, Peter O’tool’s performance in Lawrence of Arabia is by far his greatest and one of the greatest film performances ever. Not only was it mesmerizing but it was completely different from anything he had done before or since. Despite his gifts O’Tool - at least for my taste- was way too flamboyant and theatrical for the rest of his career. In Lawrence, he was charismatic, focused, at times self effacing, and completely convincing. I believe this was in great part because he was directed by the great David Lean, who would never have countenanced over the top acting for which O’Tool and all of us should forever be grateful.

You nailed it! That’s true. But some people are very resilient against cancer and the liver is typically very strong and most people can throw a whole lot at it before anything bad happens. Typically cirrhosis happens to old people because of all the pills they take. Now that being drunk is so old fashioned a faux-pas is the end of a career so people stay sober in public. People only party when everyone in attendance has to sign a non disclosure agreement. all the dirty stuff is performed on stage instead of played out by the famous people. There were many many old people still drinking and smoking into their 80s back then. You just don’t see it anymore because the drugs they put the elderly on now make you docile I suppose. They’re more easily told what to do or perhaps the previous generation disgusting them.

@@Polyfusia to say that with any confidence, wouldn’t you have had to know Depp prior to his time in the spotlight? I see O’Toole as incredibly articulate. Watch the video of him and Orson Welles discussing Hamlet. Depp is the opposite of articulate. He is laconic and prone to mumbling. The alcohol consumption matches up but that’s hardly unique to these two actors.
