In 1976 our family visited Disneyland. The Dictators Go Girl Crazy album was advertised pretty heavily in Circus and Creem magazines and I was on the hunt for the record but no luck. The night we pulled into LA I went for a walk to the mall.; a record store was holding a Midnight record sale. I was one of the first in the store. I asked a couple of the sales people but they had never even heard of the Dictators. One of the managers heard me asking the sales people. He turned to one of the other managers and asked if he had heard of the Dictators. The fellow said, maybe, and went in to the back/warehouse of the store and 10 minutes later came back with the record! I was stoked! 45 years later, still have the record, still listen to it! A great band.

they were the greatest bar none that I saw, and luckily for me, got to see them earlier on, in the early seventies, a couple times, once in a smokey pool hall and secondly at a anarchic rural rockfestival where people like them led to the complete takeover of the concert and all the open air drug sales by the people...liberate the highs>> all of a sudden, all these people's blankets piled high with psychedelics and more natural mind altering substances, up until then, sold from carnival trucks, like cotton candy, now liberated, and free!! needless to say that day, third, a saturday, and the next, when the stooges played sometime in the morning were one big trip out...

@@doubleclutchingpunk Why, so what! Better bands have done worse. And, you still liked it then, now or will at some point, some other time. How do I know, you may ask? Because, I am old enough and mature enough to know these things about people, egos, sentiments, and tastes, or style. And, I have into music and have known something of its social dynamics and attitudes for quite some time now.

Dick Manitoba was from my neighborhood in the Bronx. We knew him as Richie Blum. We used to hang out at Bill and Rays bar White Plains Road in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx. We would drink and go outside and smoke some pot. A real COOL AND WILD GUY.

@Charles J. That I don't know. I went to PS 105 September 1956-June of 1963. I did go to his Club in the East Village in September of 2007 with a friend of mine that knew him also. We were there for a few hours but Dick never showed. The Bar Maid said he should have been here by now. So we wrote him a little letter and left. Never went back.

I saw them perform at Prince George's Community College (Maryland) way back in the mid seventies . . . They were the opening band for Blue Oyster Cult and Iggy Pop and the Stooges. As far as I can remember, the ticket cost me around $5.00.

I was into the Velvets, Stooges, MC5,New York Dolls etc so when all that CBGB stuff came out it was just a natural progression for me. Loved the Dead Boys, Blondie, Television, The Modern Lovers etc. know they were not all from New York but it was the overall scene.
