THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOXING AND YIQUAN
I get asked this question a lot. Here is my answer in relation to a boxing punch and an yiquan expression of power.
You may do it better than me, you may it express it better, describe it better and can teach it better. Good. I do not call myself a Master or a great fighter but I have over 30 years’ experience and have fought in the ring and for real and suffered winning and losing and broken bones. I know how it feels to get smacked in the face and put down by a better man. I am not a paper tiger who talks theory.

Don’t like seeing ‘internal’ people hit things because its external
Feel any kind of force, momentum or obvious display of power is ‘external’
Are about to write a comment with the line “well I’m no expert myself but………….”
Think that years of solo exercise and forms will enable you to win a fight and defeat ‘external’ strikes
Like to write food reviews of restaurants from looking at pictures and videos of food rather than tasting the food
Feel that you know it better because you have the hidden indoor knowledge that is top secret and you are the special one
Prefer complex, vague, esoteric and difficult to grasp explanations over simplicity
If none of that applies I hope you enjoy it and can get something from it, if you can show better put it up and share it through your channels. The arts are dying from lack of real knowledge, delusion, insecurity, ego and pettiness. Be positive or move on and follow something else you prefer.

Thanks for this clarity. Been wondering about this for a while now. I'd love to see footage of a boxing vs. Yiquan bout. Question: is that chopping cross pretty much the same as the systema cross?

God solid Boof. 💥😉👍a cross punch, my rule of thumb is, it’s a bonus punch. A linker. It finishes. It links. Not used alone though. Isolated to demonstrate yes. Thrown by itself. Throws off the balance. That said. That’s one hell of a shot you have there. I do everything empty handed. No pads. More realistic on the forearm and hands. ☮️🤛💥☺️👍just ideas. 😉🙏

According to your experience, is there a way Yiquan could deal with a crabbling attack by a wrestler or one doing BJJ? I often hear people claiming this would not be possible but I'm in doubt about that. Perhaps sometimes you could share your opinion about that. Thanks.
