Great info. I never realized how different each area is and what dog will be best for it. My GSD isn't a protection dog, she's a welcome dog. Anyone who comes into yard she happily greets with her ball, hoping to play. She would probably show them the entry into the house too, hoping for treats.

After watching this video I am not sure what predominant trait my dog Tori has, though I think a new category needs to be looked into . . . insane varmint chaser. She lives to spot out any critter out there and give chase if she could. This leads me to believe that she is an apprehension dog, primarily. I do not know how much of a guard dog she is, as she has not been presented with a human threat situation, per say. Although there were a couple of events worth mentioning. About 2 months after I acquired Tori (a 2 year old Czech Shepherd) I had major back surgery and was out for some exercise. I fell on my own and could not get up. Tori immediately laid down beside me and gave serious dog indications to the few people who offered to help, which left me still on the ground. Fortunately, a neighbor who was well acquainted with the Tori was able to get me up with no issues. In an another event I had her on a lead going for a walk. I was just rounding a corner of a building when we ran head on with a neighbor walking his dog, which dog has a real reputation for fighting. That dog immediately attacked my dog, wherein Tori went up high and came down on the dog with its head in her mouth . . . instantly. We then were able to separate them with no serious injuries. I have never seen this type of defense before. She was brought over to the states to be a part of a police dog breeding program, but that fell through. Sadly, she had been spayed by the time I acquired her.

I have a great Dobermann his father is from Kimbertal kennels. Via Bulgaria. Bitch is Balkans shutzhund and defence champion. I'm in good shape from properly working with him. He is 5 years old and just started on the 5 yr mark to "calm down" . How long typically do healthy Dobermanns last . Thank you very much for your information and great videos. 78-82 lbs solid. 27 in at the shoulder.

I live with a Belgian malinois and a apbt I feel like both are good watch dogs I did sleeve training but just for fun here and there if I wanted them to be actual protection dogs it would require intensive training with the body suit and sleeve always felt like watch dog is good enough if you love your pet and rather handle bad guys yourself
