I'm self teaching knitting. My older sister crochets and knits but doesn thave the time to mentor. But thank god for Discord because I found an awesome community that helps me when I'm stuck. Weaving intrigues me but I don't have the space for another hobby. But I watch so I can admire the colours of your materials together!

You seem to be having such a big weaving community in your province that is really amazing. I wish France had the tenth of it!

I really liked what you talked about today regarding doing more as opposed to only reading. There is so much to discover in the art of making! Thank you and good luck with your project!

Thanks for the kick in the pants to get some dish towels off my table loom so I can finally try the shadow weave project I have been planning for months. I've been putting it off due to sheer laziness. It's really easy to read up on techniques and sometimes less easy to put the warp on and do the work.

Oh yay! Good luck with your towels. It will feel so good to finish that off and start anew!

I've been deep diving into weaving basics, binge watching Jane Stafford's School of Weaving episodes, trying to get ready for my new loom's arrival. I've done a little weaving on a rigid heddle loom. I knew early on that what I really wanted was a floor loom, or at least a multi-shaft loom. I ordered a Leclerc Dorothy table loom a little while back, intending to eventually get the stand and treadle upgrade kit for it. As luck would have it, my order sat in a "ready to fulfill" status long enough that I was able to cancel it and pay a bit more to order a Leclerc compact floor loom instead. It's supposed to be arriving the day after tomorrow.

That's so cool that you got the Berta Frey book, I just ordered one myself. I belong to a guild that was founded in her memory - some of the current members were friends of hers. I have been spending a lot of time reading while learning and have finally gotten down to actually weaving. What's nice is that I know the theory and am having fun doing experiments with the "book learning" I have!

That’s wonderful that you are part of a community and guild that has such deep roots! And glad to hear that you finally get to sit at the loom and weave now ☺️

I’m deep diving into all things weaving. I recently learned how to weave on a rigid heddle loom and then I took a class on a floor loom and now I’m obsessing over one😅.

Floor looms are magical… it’s fun to hear you’ve caught the weaving bug!

Wonderful video! For me, I’m taking the time to start with fiber and bring it to a finished product (whether knit, nalbound, or woven)and learning how different yarns affect the result. I’m really looking forward to seeing how some yarn I spun up for weaving will turn out! The weft is pretty thick and woolen, while I tried for more worsted type for the warp. They are both different colors as well. It should be interesting to find out how it ends up looking!

I have been repairing a woven blanket, with needle weaving/ duplicate stitching, which is more of an embroidery method. When I did a sample of true woven fabric to learn the woven structure and method... it is so different ! The weaving is a Leno, with alternate right/left twist to the warp... the embroidery/needle lace method.... looks the same after completion... but getting there... so very different in the working of the threads.

I have been learning about tapestry weaving, which seems to be way “bigger” than I thought it would be LOL! You can so many different techniques and methods, it’s overwhelming and exciting! Hoping with my kiddos Spring Break starting tonight, I can have a little more time to put into practice the things I’ve been reading and watching videos about! :)

How many shafts do you need to use this book? I have a 4-shaft table loom.

Four shafts for overshot will be plenty to explore!

Ah, Overshot. I once took an overshot course, it was mostly about designing overshot in software and lasted for months. Needless to say, I never wove overshot again. :) Not a favourite weave of mine. ;)
