Our childhood dog had to get an emergency spay because the uterus was getting infected. She survived luckily. And while doing an internship with a vet we had a dog come by that had mamory gland tumor I believe. We had to remove all of her mamory glands and let me tell you that operation is way more intense and tougher to recover from then a normal spay.
@kmcalary6 ай бұрын
I just lost my senior Dane. My ex did not want to spay her, and I wish I had anyway. When she was 7 she started started developing all sorts of hormone related issues, including a pyometra and a mammary tumor. Because of a heart condition, she was not a surgical candidate, so we had to treat the pyometra with a whole gamut of antibiotics and, quite frankly, just pray about the tumor, because it was too dense to be properly biopsied without putting her under. She lived to be about 8 and a half, and the pyometra never fully went away.
@rosemarygraham28156 ай бұрын
That is so true!! And pyro - infected uterus can be deadly by the time you realise something is wrong with your cat /dog and take her to the vet the infection is usually so severe an advanced that the uterus is in danger of rupturing and filling the abdomen with putrid puss and infected material that almost instantly kills the cat /dog due to toxic shock!!! So take this seriously and get your cat/dog spayed!!!

Similar story here. My dog developed pyometra around age 11 and her surgery was $6000. She also had a benign tumour on one of her mammary glands that I had removed at the same time. I wish I knew about all of this, and especially how common it is - not just that it’s a slight risk. I never bothered having her spayed when she was young because she had never really liked other dogs and would never let another dog get near her, nevermind mount. It was a hard lesson to learn, and I felt awful my dog had to go through that.

Yay for this! I love oldies. I'm not much of a marathon person, so I only adopt older dogs - sometimes, they suprise me with how active they are once they get their medical needs looked after. A 17 year old Labrador that believes he's a puppy is a hilarious and heartwarming sight. My oldest oldie I've ever had, who started this oldie obsession, didn't believe in running at all - it took all specialist vets in my country telling me his joints and nerves are all fine, he's just a lover, not a jogger. I'm pretty sure throughout our 10 years together (I adopted him when he was 10-14) I convinced him he's a superstar because he always chose the biggest human gathering in the park to plop himself in the middle of. Bonus points for children and food. He once somehow found a live drawing class (and the park is a big, big ex soviet kind of park) and became immortalised in art. I miss them all so much. They were all so worth it. Thank you for your generous donation. We need more people to recognise how amazing seniors are - perfect for the..um, lazier part of society, but not only!

I like to think that the dogs have coordinated their behavioural strategy in order to prove their owner wrong. "They say I'm the bad one, so I'm gonna be a good boy. You need to do the screams and the dancing, okay?" "Yeah, they won't see it coming"
@ShadowSkyX6 ай бұрын
Could be the one who acts bad knows they can act out because it's their owner. They feel more comfortable to do so because they learn they can push their limits and how much. With a stranger, the smarter ones usually know to behave or default to it as a way to get an uncomfortable situation over faster. Or they're just chill and this is a normal part of life.

I have a suggestion. Check out your local humane society or rescue and volunteer to help socialize dogs at their facility. I have a friend who takes her adult daughter weekly, and they get to have fun with cats and dogs.
