The Difference In TONE With The 4 cable Method VS. Straight In

I'm trying to see if there is a noticeable tone difference when using the 4 cable method vs. plugging straight into your amp. Good news, in my situation, there is hardly any difference!

Do you have a noise suppressor in there? Obviously it doesn't matter much in a mix but I love getting rid of that down buzz. Lol

Haha actually I do but it’s VERY subtitle. One thing I hate about a gate or a suppressor is that it cuts off a note when I need it the most. It’s a give and take kind of thing. I’d rather have a noisy hi gain amp knowing I can let a note sustain with just a crunch setting rather than piling on a bunch of overdrives to just make it uncontrollable.

Very odd sounding results. I don't know what you're doing exactly so I have no idea what's going on. Are you sure you have set up the 4CM correctly?

Yes I definitely have it set up correctly. If you’re talking about when I’m actually recording, the monitoring is set up weird because I was using my streaming setup. When I play it back it sounds fine. So during recording it’s weird, but as long as I don’t have the monitoring on during playback, it’s all good. Now if you’re not talking about during the recording itself, what part of the video are you saying has odd results? To my naked ear in the room it sounded almost identical

@@jeffmoppi I explain my chain at the beginning but the only thing that I KNOW sounds weird is when I’m actually recording because you’re hearing my monitoring AND the source of the chain. But during playback it’s normal. So if you’re saying “odd sounding results” it makes sense during recording but if it’s at a different time other than I’m recording, what part of the video are you saying has odd sounding results?

@@CarlosWadeMusic You're hearing the direct signal and the input monitoring playback at the same time while he's recording. That's normal. Input monitoring can be switched off.

I guess it really comes down to what you want to do. Going into the front of the amp, (with no fx) you're getting no signal loss. Anything going into the fx loop will have a slight drop in volume as it's only using the power section of the amp (in between the preamp and poweramp) and running at a line level. If I am using my HeadRush for just fx, I go into the front of the amp. If I'm using it for amp models and fx, I use the 4CM. That way I can get the tube poweramp with the modeler preamp.

if you use headrush preamp with a tube poweramp, you don't need 4CM, just plug the headrush into fx return

For my clean tone I use an amp modeler now but as you can see there was BARELY a difference when using the 4CM using just fx.
