The upgrade includes, among other things, the replacement of basically all electronic components so that the system is in line with other modern Leopard 2s, new L55 gun with a greater possibility of programming ammunition, new night sights for the gunner and commander as well as a night driving camera for the driver and finally a new track assembly, including tracks...

The Strv 122 differs from the A5 in these 3 major things: 1. Additional armor, mainly on the turret and top of the tank. 2. It has an APU so it can be powered on and "hunting" in ambush positions without having it's main engine on wich makes it "stealthier" in this mode (less noise and smoke) and more fuel efficient. 3. The big one is the battlefield fire and control system wich is unique to this tank, especially at it's inception. It allows various Tanks, IFV and other Swedish forces to know where the others are, identify friend from foe, updating target information to other tank that hasn't seen the enemy itself and coordinate attacks. This is something that has trickled down from the unique systems the Swedes implemented in their planes first, using other planes basically as a form of "AWAC". This is an area where the Swedes has been at the forefront of and even impressed the Americans and other actors who have also emulated and started to implement their own systems in their updates, like the later Abrams etc. You hear about it a lot now in the fifth gen fighters etc often coined "encrypted datalink" or similar, but it's something the Swedes have done for years and one of their strenghts. When you have a small population you need to make sure they survive as much as possible and can do more damage per soldier, so they have consistently come up with solutions to do that.

@@scratchy996 No. V is the 2A7"Upgraded" mainly with the L55A1 gun (for KE2020 ammo), new Steyr APU engine, Webasto etc 2A7+ is a more urban designated uprgrading package. Apart from thicker side skirts by IBD Disenroth (but still called Made by KMW), two sets of armor plates for font of the hull, communication from the outside of the tank (for infantry) and separate remote MG 7,62/.50 turret on top. Plus is an upgrade program made mostly for sale. V is internal Heer program.

And yes, the Leopard 2A7V is the most advanced Leopard 2 version. It is the only Leopard 2 variant than carries the new L55A1 main gun. The Leopard 2E lacks the mine protection kit and the updated hull front AMAP addon armor (Leopard 2E, HEL and Strv 122 have MEXAS, predecessor of AMAP). Also Leopard 2A7V has 3rd generation thermals for commander and gunner while Leopard 2E has 2nd generation.

Do you believe the bullshit you are talking about by yourself! This is a german tank build under license in Sweden with minor swedish modifications! Actually the enhanced armor to the originally armor was designed by IBD ( Ingenieurbüro Deisenroth) a company founded and owned by Mr Armor himself( Ulf Deisenroth) who passed away some years ago! So the armor of this tank is not „Swedish“ but 100% german!

The added armor protection was provided by SSAB and some protective modules from Åkers Krutbruk och IDB. So the armor is not 100% German :)

@@kristofferhellstrom A good question, but for sure we should not rush into any premature conclusion. First of all the Russian Military did use their forces tactically in a very poor way. The Russian BTGs ( Battalion Tactical Groups ) never operated in the way, they were intended to be used, in a combined arms operation. They mostly operated in small platoon sized groups without proper reconnaissance. So they became easy pray for the Ukrainian troops in various ambushes. Secondly the Russian Army seems to have modern equipment in far smaller numbers as the western intelligence thought. Thirdly the Russian military used totally inadequate troop numbers to successfully occupy large parts of the Ukraine simultaneously. Apart from that the Ukrainian war clearly indicates the need for active protection systems, especially hard kill APS like Trophy. But what should also not be neglected, is the fact that, on a lot of the imagery of damaged and destroyed AFVs from the Ukrainian war, many of them seemed to be damaged/destroyed by artillery and not by ATGMS. That was also the case during the last almost 6 years of the Donbas War. Also there most AFV losses were caused by artillery. So a heavy roof protection module, like the one used by the strv 122 is for sure something very advisable.

The amount of miss Information in this video is mind blowing 1. The Strv 122 procurment started in 1993 2. Germany developt and build the Leo2 TVM max and min Prototypes in 1990/91 and tested both vehicles till 1993. 3. In 1993 germany send the Leo2 TVM max to the Swedish tank trails.. vs M1A2 and Leclerc.. which the Leo2 clearly won 4. Sweden choose the Leo2 TVM max as their new Strv122... with minimal changes like Galix smokegranade charger and slightly different cooling intake Design 5. Strv 122 production started in Germany and was slowly transfered to Sweden.. tank Nr. 60 was the first Strv 122 completely build in Sweden 6. The Leo2 A5 is based on the Leo2 TVM2 prototype which was a result of german army testing of the Leo2 TVM max and min... in 1992 and 1993 the TVM2 was tested in germany together with the neatherlands and Swiss.. one big different the armor Moduls in the main armor were new better Designs over the TVM max and min... Yes both are Leo2 but Strv122 is based on older tech than the A5 None of the armor of the Strv122 was developt by Sweden

The strv 122 is a leo 2a5 with additional armor. Germany has long since uparmored its own tanks starting with the 2a6m. The leopard 2a7v is better than the 122, better firepower, better electronics and equal armor.
