Mongols used the signaling arrows at night or in foggy areas. The scout shoots the whistle and the rest of the horse archers will shoot to the exact location based on the sound. Yes they like bats use echo locations. Infact, this is the exact method how one prince killed his dad to become a king. It is said his dad's body was completely covered in arrows.

@@LordFoogThe2st_ Yeah, I need to up my problem game... when's the next war starting? Well, no matter, famine may soon be here. We'll see how next winter goes, last winter went way better than I expected. At least it seems. Wouldn't be surprised if record-numbers of Canadians have been freezing/starving to death lately but Government-paid media have just decided to instead broadcast about how climate change causes forest fires even though scientists say climate change in no way causes forest fires. I thought of something funny today, because 'science' is not 'settled' on A LOT of things, and if Covid and the vaccine taught us anything, what science says can be total shit and/or can change in part or in whole or in its entirety within the span of months. Also, masks are useless with Covid, people who made a big deal about it may as well have made a big deal about setting tables right after the Titanic struck the iceberg. IT... MEANS... NOTHING... except you virtue-signalling and trying to have authoritarian control over other people for a power high. But yeah, funny thought... Science is not settled, but I know LOTS of people who ARE settled on the science. Politicians, mainstream media, and teachers. There's still scientists who say opposing things about climate change, and it goes back to what Albert Einstein said. A scientist came up with a list of something like 200 scientist's signatures against his Theory of Relativity or some such thing. Einstein responded something like "Very well, but why so many? All you needed was one signature." If one scientist disagrees, the science is not settled. End of. And the science of climate change causing forest fires and climate change being an 'emergency...' it is NOT settled lmao And go ahead, blah blah blah 'denier' blah blah blah. At least I think for my own DAMN self... because if I'm going to be wrong, I'd rather be my own type of wrong than to listen to what MOST PEOPLE'S wrong version of things is. If I perceive something is incorrect or untrue, then I pursue to discover where the true lies. Truth is all that matters. Political correctness is an intellectual anesthetic for the populous to try and keep people from talking about meaningful things in public.

the crescent shaped "birds" arrowhead was actually more likely used for rabbits, hares, and other small game. The shape does two things: 1. it prevents the arrow destroying excessive amount of the animal by limiting it's penetration - the shock of the impact is enough to kill a small rodent or similar, and 'blunts' were often used to make sure the animal stayed totally untouched in that regard. But also, and most interestingly, it acts like a modern judo-point, which flips the arrow up in the air if it strikes the ground and not an animal. This means the arrow is easy to find again as it lays on top of the ground, whereas a warhead like a bodkin would easily slip under the turf never to be seen again. Also the broadhead without barbs, and the really wide one, would have been primarily for hunting. The first, without barbs, will slip out letting the blood seep out giving a hunter a blood trail to follow. The second just maximises damage for large game. In a battle, neither would be effective compared to the first barbed warhead which would stick into flesh and make it difficult for the soldier to move - imagine having a big arrow stuck in you and you can't pull it out!

Not that you'd want to pull out an arrow. That's quite possibly the worst thing you can do
@daredemontriple6
@daredemontriple6 Жыл бұрын
@@yeasstt In a modern context sure - because in a modern context it's almost certainly just an archery accident, you can restrict movement as much as possible, lay down etc, and wait for the ambulance for proper care. In the context of a medieval battlefield however, a 2' long piece of ash sticking out of you is going to make it difficult to fight which might get you killed, not to mention the fact that the arrow itself will 'dig around' as you move and continue to do damage. It may well be better to remove the arrow if possible, pack the wound with some linen or something, and then seek aid once there's no risk of being killed by the enemy. Of course you may well die as a result of removing the arrow, but seeing as it was purposefully shot at you to begin with, the priority is probably on surviving the next 20 minutes, rather than not bleeding out in an hour or two.
@Shocktrue1
@Shocktrue1 Жыл бұрын
Your last paragraph is entirely inaccurate. Both arrows do exactly as described. In heated combat, with adrenaline flowing at the max, Fatah injuries aren't necessarily instantly fatal inquiries. A man with an arrow sticking out of his intestines in medieval times is almost certainly going to die from his wounds, but if he has enough adrenaline and willpower, he can snap that arrow off and fight on until something actually kills him, such as either more serious injury or blood loss. If the arrow out plugging the wound, blood loss is slow. Even if its digging around and destroying his intestines as he fights, but still keeping the blood mostly INSIDE, it will take more time to bleed to death. If blood is actively gushing from his body, no amount of adrenaline will keep him operating once his blood pressure drops below a certain threshold. The open would can turn this into a couple minutes or less, instead of 10 to 20 or more. And that's potentially enough time to kill or maim a lot of your comrades that would otherwise Not have been attacked by the arrow wounded man. And standard human tip broad heads will do little to quickly slow something the size of a horse in an adrenaline filled situation unless you get a lucky critical inquiry. The bigger head has more cutting arrow, so initially a better chance of hitting a critical area in general. And again, failing a critical kill, bigger head means bigger wound for the bigger animal, causing significantly more pain and bleeding on a creature that is only a useful mount if you can keep it under control and moving...

Oh you should check out single bevel broadheads. Most broadheads are ground and sharpened on both sides of the blade, small downside is they can stop or slow the arrow spin as they penetrate flesh. Single bevel broadheads are only ground on one side, acting like wings and can induce spin on their own. When they penetrate, the broadhead itself wants to keep spinning as it cuts. When it hits bone, it can split it apart; where as double bevels just punch through

It's not for gouging an animal's flesh. The wide arrow is how large the cut will be. It's the same size as a sword or spear stabbing into the animal. The arrow produces the same kind of wound but without having to get into the horse's path to do it. The arrowhead won't spin or do that much more damage after it's in. The sides aren't sharp so the flesh will keep it in place. However, that looooong wound channel it created will still be there.
