@johnb950711 күн бұрын
@@bordereau1 But the premiums are a lot cheaper in the long run than if you ever have to actually use the insurance. That's what people overlook. Yeah great. No premiums. When you get to be a certain age (of enough for Medicare) you can't take for granted that everything in the old body is going to continue to work the way it's supposed to. I have built my business organically through referrals and do not buy leads. Taking an educational approach as opposed to a sales pitch approach allows an informed decision to be made. There’s a reason something is more costly just as there’s a reason something has a very low cost. As long as the client understands this and is comfortable with the plan design, then they feel good about their decision and I can sleep at night knowing I was honest and ethical in helping them with their coverage. I worked telephonic Medicare Advantage and Supplement plan sales for years. I closed an average of 2.4 sales per day, mostly Medicare Advantage because the entity I worked for marketed to that group of Medicare recipients. I was licensed in over 40 states and appointed with 10 companies, passed my state licensing test, yearly AHIP and carrier exams. I always considered tge offering of Supplement plans as the lazy agents product because selling Supplement plans is like shooting fish in a barrel. Many agents who only offer Supplements without offering Advantage plans or use scare tactics to stear customers away from Advantage plans, are doing a great injustice to Medicare recipients. I spoke with people who've never even heard of an Advantage plan nor offered one when they first became eligible for Medicare and spoke with an agent. Fishing 👍 I enjoyed this insight into your agency and agencies. Insurance salesmen like car salesmen have a bad reputation due to in most cases commission based pay. Having trust in a Medicare insurance agency is paramount for engaging with them as there are so many who are after commission regardless of fit for the individual. I do believe your agency is transparent and as such will do well in this minefield of medical cover in our senior years. Old people are vulnerable, trusting and fearful of the unknown which is what the unscrupulous salesmen prey on. I trust you and your agency will keep your high ethical standards and will then naturally reap the rewards from helping those in need at such an important stage in their lives. Thank you !

You should not have to go fishing in deep waters to find a simple answer others can understand. Oof! You’ll be on the hook for 20% of ALL of your medical costs with no maximum out of pocket amount . So if you have a major medical situation, example is cancer, you’ll be responsible for 20% of all of those services. Going without a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plan means you’re exposed to an unlimited amount of costs. This is an easy way to go bankrupt.

Do you have a medigap plan to cover the 20% gap in coverage? That's the kicker, as most are close to the monthly premium you already have to pay. I discovered that Medicare is expensive if you are low income like me. It's infuriating, then I have to either get an expensive medigap plan, or settle for an Advantage plan that will be a nightmare for getting prior approval, denied care, and the rest of it. And if I choose an Advantage plan, then chances are if I decide to switch back to traditional Medicare I will of course have to get a medigap plan but will have to then go through underwriting and either be denied because of pre-existing conditions, or charged a lot more per month. Good times in the US!!!!!!!!!!!!! Canadians pay about the same as we do in taxes but they get needed healthcare, guaranteed, at no additional cost. We are so screwed in the US by comparison, all so some already wealthy ____ can make even more money.
@pat400512 күн бұрын
Canadians might get the healthcare "guaranteed", but I keep reading in the Comments on various channels that they can't get the more important and critical things (as far as appointments and procedures) done in a time,y manner. I have been fishing all over the web, and KZbin for the last several years in anticipation of turning 65 and having to go on medicare. You have been quite helpful recently with my questions. You also educated me on why COBRA and ACA plans don't count as being acceptable to Medicare. Keep up the good work. I will reach out to you when I decide to retire and need a Medicare plan. Lord willing, that won't be until I turn 70. That's when I can max out SS.
@corigram17 күн бұрын
You can retire at any time but qualify for Medicare at age 65 without applying for Social Security until age 70. Also, be aware that there are requirements and penalties as to when you apply for Medicare. I believe it only affects Part B with penalties, as Part A is provided without a user paid premium. I applied timely, but due to an address mix-up, my request wasn't processed until after my required time period. As a result, I was penalized and now must pay a higher Part B premium for the rest of my life.

Thank you for confirming what I thought about agents and supplement plans - that they require less work. I worked very briefly with a local agent, but when he gave me the wrong answer about the 12-month trial period, refused to answer a question about HSAs, and then started sending fishing texts for me to sign up for other types of insurance, I went solo for 2025. I am on and will stay on advantage plans because my wife and I have tens of thousands of dollars in HSAs which cannot be used for supplement premiums but can cover advantage plan out-of-pocket expenses. Also, we can contribute the maximum to her HSA for the next 20+ years (big age difference). Again, thank you for all your videos. They have been very helpful to a DIY such as me.

Fishing--I also wanted to say that this video was helpful as I began Medicare at 69 on July 1. My independent agent seems to have done me a fine job as I listened to all you say. He guided me to a good Supplement G plan and talked me through a lot of options and pros and cons. I had decided I didn't need or want pre-approvals or being in a network. He also sent me to another agent who did Part D. He helped me find a good dental plan as well. I've emailed a few times and he always returned with an intelligent email, and not short, that answered my questions and indicated he knew my particular situation.

Why cant we have single payer, paid directly by the Government? Cut out those middle-men insurance companies. All the tax-payers' money going directly to patient care and salaries of those who take care of them.
@ChrisSadowski-pp1np16 күн бұрын
@@noreenhappel8531 It would be too expensive. We already can't afford the government programs we have now. Social security is looking at cuts in the future potentially and Medicare tax only covers 89% of part A cost.

@@ChrisSadowski-pp1np But we have billions to send to Israel and Ukraine. Our govt do not care for us citizens
@flickwtchr15 күн бұрын
@@ChrisSadowski-pp1np That is just complete nonsense. How can Canada afford it? Tell me that. And Canadians pay just about the same amount in taxes, and don't have to pay a dime more for healthcare. And in Canada, no one is declaring bankruptcy because of medical bills, while that is the number one cause of personal bankruptcy in the US. Here in the US, whose government is now almost entirely controlled by greedy 1% sociopaths, not only do we have to pay taxes, but we have to pay premiums, co-pays, deductibles, on top of that! And such a joy to reach retirement age and be faced with more greedy jerks to deal with in regard to the sharks feeding on the elderly and sick. But would you ever be for a small tax on wealth over say 250 million to help make SS solvent, or simply raise the cap on income? Well of course you wouldn't. My guess is that when the 1% gets more and more tax cuts, and when large corporations along with the 1% pay an effective tax rate far lower than what a plumber pays, you're all for that. My guess is that when free taxpayer money flows like a raging river to the 1% you never have a problem with that. But taxpayer money flowing back to taxpayers in a single payer system where everyone is guaranteed care??????? Oh no, we can't have THAT!!!!!! Here is an example of a story I came across from a Canadian recently… "Canadian here: I come from a working class family. Dad - blue collar mechanic working in a non unionized job. My mom: a dishwasher/cleaner. They had some savings but not much. Dad went through cancer treatments. He didn’t make it. Mom has been through a skin cancer situation that required surgery as well as uterine cancer that required her basement to be cleaned. Mom’s been in remission for nearly a year now. Guess what: she still has some meager savings and her house. The only thing she had to pay was the odd cab ride to an appointment. This is how it should be. Fighting cancer or any ailment is hard enough." In the US her Mom sure as hell wouldn't still own her house.
@lyndayoung876110 күн бұрын
@@noreenhappel8531 AGREE but some cry "socialism!" to prevent it. Medicare pays more to Medicare Advantage sponsors to "manage" your care. The more they Manage, the more they get to keep. Yet a growing element in Congress thinks WE (not them) should only have access to MA. Keep your eyes on what Congress is doing to "save" Medicare. It could ruin it in the process.

Thanks for discussing the fishing tactics of bad agents. I think a fundamental problem is that the system is set up as for-profit and companies have pressure, maybe a duty to increase shareholder returns. Whenever profit is involved, there are bad actors, not only in health insurance and administration, but in any business.

The greedy ____ will do anything to screw people over. And yet most US citizens STILL buy the propaganda that the US citizens would have to pay more into a universal system which is absolute nonsense. Canadians pay about the same amount in taxes as we do, and in return they get the healthcare they need. (yes, it is prioritized vs need, but of course that is the only way it can be done, but if you need care, you get it) I'm talking serious care, such as surgeries, long hospital stays, long rehab stays, home care, prescriptions, etc etc etc. And there out of pocket costs? Well, like I said, it's paid for by their taxes which are about the same rate that we pay in taxes. Some Canadian stories I've saved the last few days since this topic has come to prominence again… "Father of five in Canada. First class maternity ward in my local hospital, incredible service and supports. Multiple nights stayed per birth. Zero dollars later I pay my very modest taxes without hesitation or regret." "I’m 🇨🇦. When I gave birth to my son, I had complications, including pre-eclampsia and paid $0 for my delivery and 4-day hospital stay. In the last year, I’ve had a serious of small health issues. As a result, have had 5 rounds of blood work, several ultrasounds, 3 x-rays, 5 GP visits and 2 specialist appointments. Cost-$0. I don’t know how Americans do it?!" "Wife had a meningioma (non-cancerous brain tumour) removed from her brain 2 years ago. A very delicate operation. She was in the OR for almost 9 hours, spent 5 days at the hospital, got medication for several weeks, etc. We have absolutely no clue how much all of the cares she received cost. We live in Montreal, Canada, I know it gets cold in the winter months, sometimes we have to wait to receive care, in other words, our system has flaws. But I will be thankful for the rest of my life to the surgeon that saved my wife and also to our healthcare system" Contrast that with a story I ran across from a US citizen telling about a friend who was indirectly killed by our sick system… "My friend died last summer. He had a bad cold, but he had recently started a new job and had to wait 3 months before his insurance kicked in. His cold got worse so we offered to take him to the hospital. He hemmed and hawed and said he could not afford the cost of the ER or the hospital. He was still paying off the hospital bill for a detached retina two years prior, so he declined. He’d tough it out. That was Friday. We called on Sunday but got no answer and figured he was sleeping. His job called his family for a wellness check on Tuesday since they hadn’t heard from him. The police went to his apartment and found him dead. So sad. He was 58, no major health problems. Walked a lot. Worked out. He died of pneumonia. Healthcare tied to employment status is abominable. Why did he have to wait for insurance coverage? Truly live or die, and he’s one of thousands who die because the cannot afford the bill to live."

Thank you immensely for all of your videos and the valuable information you share. This video in particular was not only an eye opener but also had me shaking my head. You know it's America when a social program (Medicare) designed to help a somewhat vulnerable segment of the population (seniors) has so many leaks that it's a piece of cake for greedy hounds (a - sleazy agents, even if a small % of all agents and b - big corporations) to confuse/mislead and potentially take advantage of customers. No wonder that for the last 2 months the bombardment of Medicare commercials has been incessant. When it's time to go fishing for a plan I'll definitely work through an agent.

Thank you for information that is so helpful for all seniors who have to go fishing for the truth in this sea of medicare insurance companies. You have a calming voice, and you stick to the facts about how the insurance business works (which most people are probably not aware of) so your information is of benefit to everyone. The whole Medicare system needs to be overhauled in my opinion. It is way too complicated. It feels like an a la carte menu with a fee for each part. Maybe that worked back in the 60's when it was written, but costs back then were affordable. Nowadays the premiums and deductibles added together makes health insurance very expensive. I know that is not your fault, but it truly gets confusing when you embark on a Medicare quest. Looking forward for more videos, they help a lot!
