I watched the entire documentary. I am curious WHY no one asked the name of the girl that Kenley & Jason allegedly had in common. It seems like she could answer many questions. Or, perhaps, there was no girl but instead two boys who got together. It wouldn't have been accepted in the 80's and certainly not talked about as it is today. It may have been the reason for murder. Later in life, Jason has a sex change? Such a twisted story.
@FLOSSYTREADWELL5 ай бұрын
Was the 90's & yes I wondered why this invisible girlfriend wasn't investigated in the docs & (5 part series). However, Jason's father was a cop so.... it did seem to me the family were after the money & after the private investigator said they were not he went very quiet & it became apparent they were after the reward when Jason's uncle said 'it's not just for the money'. I agree it's a very twisted story & Jason's family are very odd. Brother becomes a female sister becomes a male. Jeez this family don't have enough to worry about but themselves so seem to create issues. Jason, erm Erin, did eventually pass a lie detector test. Then there's the guy in prison who became a suspect. What a place, I wouldn't want to visit there or send my child to that university. Kenley's poor mother searching through bear caves, as if they'd have hauled his body through all that difficult terrain. I just can't see that. That family sent her on some wild goose chases.
@FLOSSYTREADWELL5 ай бұрын
I would like to add that Jason erm Erin did give himself ample time to learn how to manipulate lie detectors by regulating heartbeat. so that result really means nothing. However, he would have been offered ' a cut' of any reward & having no evidence against him wouldn't have resulted in a conviction. Yet the other guy sits in prison on flimsy evidence. Tom Gordon, last person to see him whose story seems to keep changing, who must have seen him as a love rival. Let's face it the woman he liked showed more interest in Kenley - better he was out of the way? The fact those two went into his room & Tom Gordon knew his bank card was in his bag (he'd last seen him using that bank card) Why was he rooting through his bag. Makes me wonder if he put the bag back in the room as he knew it's contents.
@counterculture104 ай бұрын
@@FLOSSYTREADWELL Yes, an /or forgot to get rid of the bag from the room after he realized he gave the police a statement that said he had seen Kenley with his "knap sack" walking towards New Minas. Tom's sighting (with hat and bag) on Monday (twice) is really problematic. And let's just say if it were an innocent mistake, would you confuse Sunday (a weekend day), with Monday ( a school day)? That'd be tough to do. He also had vivid memories of walking through the campus that Monday, having lunch, and playing tennis with his friend...it doesn't make sense that he'd confuse the two days. By the way, I know Wolfville and Acadia well...they are fantastic places! Don't let a documentary pigeon-hole your perception about both.

The mysterious email referenced at closing: how difficult would it be to trace? If it came from the subject-suspect's sister it would pretty much establish the unreliability of the whole suspect theory. The suspect is a fractured person for sure but not necessarily a killer. It was a good documentary but halfway in it seems the filmmaker is generating filler rather than seriously pursuing what happened to Kenley. A lot of contradictory scenarios are presented. I suspect that unsolved missing person cases take on their own sensationalizing momentum as they age. A lot here echos the Johnny Gosch case.

Most humans love a good story and or telling a good story. A interesting story. Humans even while trying to stay focused on nothing but the facts. Will add a little spice or intrigue to a story. It could be the slightest addition of what they have already decided about the event. Oh this person had a look in their eyes I absolutely knew they were this or that. It's been proven later that the person had on shades that were impossible for the naked eye to see through even with the most intense light known to man. What!?! The "Filmmaker" hires a "private investigator" to spy on one of the partizipants in his "documentation" just because of some minor details which doesn't add up, after 30 years? Are you insane? You should have disclosed your relationship with the whole situation earlier. It makes you not an independent journalist, but rather a participant of the events, creating a story yourself. That is against any workethics, at least as known in Europe. Knowing this, you, the filmmakers, may very well be part of the people you portrayed and could very well be connected to the disappearance yourself. The whole gathering of friends of former high school class mates, has to be seen as staged by an interested party, after learning your active role. So, who are you, did you know the disappeared person, and in what relationship are you to his family? Your behaviour is very unprofessional. This way you lose every independence, and every attorney would warn anyone, even police, to participate in any further work of your so called "documentary". Is this a joke? While it is odd that his body has never been found, it seems most likely that he took his own life. If an accident or fould play had befallen him, his body would likely would have been found by now. The sea does not always give up her secrets, but the story as it's told here by his family and friends is of a sensitive young man who felt very out of place and depressed. I understand people's urge to find answers and consider all possibilities, but when you start consulting psychics, you're truly grasping at straws. I also think pointing fingers at Johnson without a shred of evidence to suggest he had a motive to hurt him is irresponsible. I might consider filing a civil suit against anyone who suggested that publicly, but out of respect for the fact that the family are still in grief and not thinking straight, I guess taking the high road as Johsnon has apparently done makes sense too. As for berating the tiny Wolfville police force for not employing 2024 CSI protocols over a missing university kid in 1992, that seems rather unfair. But not to assume it was a case of suicide and conduct a proper search for his body was negligent.That being said, if he did swim out into the ocean to end his own life, it is by no means certain that his body would ever be recovered. For the familiy's peace of mind, I hope they can accept that this is what probably occured and move on. It's a heck of a lot easier for me to say that, than for them to actually do it without any definitive answers of course, but somehow I get the feeling this documentary was more harmful than helpful to their grieving process. It is nice to know that he had a loving family and a couple of good friends that cared for him.
@counterculture104 ай бұрын
I disagree with you. Had he committed suicide, it is very likely that his body would have been discovered at some point. Although I don't dismiss the possibility. On the other hand, if it were foul play and somebody wanted to deliberately hide a body, it would be very hard, if not impossible, to find it without someone offering information as to where it would be. Although Tom seemed like a very nice guy, several parts of his story didn't make sense...the Monday sighting, the back pack, and hat...the South America comment...the inquiries into the case 10 years later...the driving off and sitting in his car for 20 minutes after the filming...the whole diary thing which could be interpreted as an exchange student keeping a record of his new college life in Canada or could point to someone who kept detailed notes to keep his story straight on the days in question. In the story, it seems that Kirsten liked Kenley and Tom liked Kirsten...perhaps a motive. I'm not saying that Tom did it. There could be innocent explanations BUT there are some red flags here...especially the Monday sightings and the back pack and hat oddities.

I started at acadia in 1993 - I am utterly shocked I never knew a thing about this until now. The valley is a unique place and there definitely is a "we/they" thing happening, but some of my best college experiences were with the locals...good folks. "Hi man House" forever!

Wait - Todd Barker's favourite film (36:52) was "Triumph of the Will" and he dislikes "Utopian Socialists". Imagine saying that today!!

Anyone who behaves nervous, over helpful, makes weird jokes about a missing person and changes statement over the years is definitely involved. The only reason you would lie about seeing someone the next day is you knew that person was already dead the day before and you didn't want any attention drawn to that day. And that ironing thing is just too far fetched out of no where I kinda think maybe he hit Kenley with an iron. Todd Barker should definitely be treated as a suspect. I have a feeling he killed Kenley.

I went to university and those RAs were pricks for the most part, and let that title go to their head Doesn't mean he's guilty, but they do have an air of superiority to them which might explain his behaviour

43:00 He didn't have any apparent trouble in his life huh. Well apparently he'd come onto a number of females at that party upsetting their boyfriends, there was something said about an issue in the bathroom, his sister said. His own sister went to his room to tell him his behaviour embarrassed her. He must have felt like nobody was on his side. He was drunk at a party get over it. She should have been supporting him not ganging up against him. Then there was Tom obsessed with the female who thought it ok to go away for a weekend with 2 mean. We know Tom wanted her but she didn't want him. Sounds like she was playing them up against each other. She said they were having a great time shoving each other off the jet ski but in the photos Tom was the one in the water while they were on the ski. That must have miffed him. In my opinion she was after Kenley & he wasn't showing enough interest so she added Tom to the mix knowing he wanted her. She kept approaching Kenley, outside his residence & at the party, The rebuffs must have been embarrassing to her and all while Tom waits around hoping she would choose him. Towels and face cloths missing from the room sounds like a 'clean' up' took place unless he took them to the laundromat & left them there the day Chris saw him. He told Chris he was doing laundry. His sister pulled him up about his drunken behaviour I wonder if her friend Chris also did while outside the laundromat - he mentioned the chat was awkward, so he too may have been nagging about the party behaviour. Kenley was attractive so coming onto other guys girls they would have felt threatened long after that party by his presence. If something happened in the bathroom it could have carried on. He must have felt so alone. The woman he went jet skiing with & Tom entered his room & they knew his wallet was inside the red knapsack. So clearly they searched it. Tom skipped relevant parts of his diary after being asked 3 times to re read a part. He also changed his story but time could have affected memories. The police have missed something significant & not treating his room as a crime scene was a huge error on their part. They'd have done so had he been female in my opinion.

Really good analysis. My thoughts exactly (not on every point but close). Besides the Kenley-Kirsten-Tom potential love scenarios, Tom has some problems in his story...whether Tom's memories were affected with time (which of course is likely) his two sightings of Kenley on Monday are problematic. The fact that he gave a statement to the police that he saw Kenley with his backpack and hat on is problematic. The fact that Kenley allegedly deposited $20 on Monday is problematic. Kirsten being emphatic about entering Kenley's room between Mon-Wed. with Tom and Todd Barker is problematic. Her seeing the back pack is problematic. Although her memory seems fuzzy at times (ex. giving Kenley's baseball cap to the police), Todd B. backs up her memory of going into the room. Tom, however, doesn't remember that part. Very odd.

I hope to honest hell that you did not produce this. If you did then desrve the verbal wrath that I am going to place on this video. So I wil start and if you do not think about or appreciate my critisism of this. then would just show your patehtic understand of simple English. No1: this video accuses him of being Gay and he was killed in a lovers tryst, perhaps, but absolutely no proof of that. No 2 He was involved in drugs and dealing..Most Students do try drugs, but to be a dealer and obvioudly reasonbly small in scale, would a drug kingpimp, kill him for a paltry &1000 or &2000 dollars? No matter what you may think, most Drug dealers are more intersted in cash not killing. Bo3 If he was going to go overseas, then I think he would at the very least take something like a Rucksack tathere than a wee backpack that can only hold a few books and a couple of pairs of boxers etc. I a, not a policeman, but I am an accident investigator and I feel that the police tried there best under there operating procedures. as well as they could. An unfortunate reality, apart from the obvious, is that police in any country worldwide also have to abide by law and rules, unfortunately they also get there hands tied by what they are and are not allowed to do. This of course is only my opinion and I could be totally wrong.

If there is no sign of foul play at the point of disappearance, then it is a non-Crime, and not a Crime. The Police have no business investigating non-Crimes because thy are paid to investigate Crimes instead. This family just can't accept the VERY Real Possibility that this young man Just DUMPED Them to start a new life without them. Happy Trails, Kenley !!! I hope that your new life has somehow been happier than the one you left behind !!! 😢

Seems like a poor theory. Had he decided to start a new life, why would he not withdraw money from his account? Instead, he deposits $20 on a Monday in which no one, other than Tom Gordon, claims to have seen him (twice). This is very strange and to me seems to point to foul play.
