one of my favorite custom spells was on that tortured npcs. it paralyed and dealt condtant fire damage but also gave npcs resistance to fire damage and restored their health so that they couldn't actually die, just lay there, unable to move, unable to die, in burning agony. haha.

Sadly, since the cities are new cell areas they got rid of levitate to prevent the immersion being broken. So, yknow, the bad voice acting, the people talking to themselves, that's fine, but the levitation was just going too far.

You can use paintbrushes. They are infused with the power of Sheogorath and do not obey gravity. Also, I discovered yesterday that you can jump out of Anvil without using spells of Paintbrushes.

Got so much mileage out of potions of fortify speed and levitate in Morrowind. You'd be surprised how much you get when your first (and only) item you have enchanted is "fortify enchanting by 500 for 1 second". Note that to get one second duration to work consistently you'll need to increase the duration then lower it to one. Don't ask me why, it just works lol

What I think happens with the speed drain spell is the NPCs range they'll chase you scales off their speed, since it takes longer to reach point B at lower speed. So at 0 speed, nearly any distance is too far for the NPC to go. I might be wrong though, I'm just theorizing, the way this game works is really interesting to me.

Way back when I first played Oblivion, I made a water horse spell that also fortified athletics and speed. not only is your horsey able to walk on water, but it goes very fast.

I glitched out my file with the ring from shivering isles that let you walk on water and breathe underwater. I could walk out to where i needed on any body of water, and look down to go under the water, since only the surface of the water repels you. It took me until about 2018 to rediscover and learn about the glitch that caused that to happen and also cause me to understand what happened to that file. For the longest time I wondered why I was stuck with those buffs.

@@qwopiretyu damage fatigue is special tho. Since it stacks in the negative, the game basically treats it as ragdoll on command. Cast one of these on yourself in air or on horse and the game doesn't really know what to do, it really messes with the camera and the physics.

My favorite was Riot. Just a wide spread Frenzy spell that got everyone attacking everyone else. I also came up with Flashbang. It would light up the target for a second, before a second of paralysis, and then fear for... I believe 10 seconds. It was quite costly but quite fun.

i remember making a hilarious spell on my magic character where i would inflict frenzy and that one effect where you could keep enemies from fleeing in a fight and made it so you could cast its effect in like 50m. the spell would cause the all npcs to fight each other to the death and i wouldn't even get bounty from doing so. Fun times starting riots in the different towns.

if you include the burden effect, the npcs run for a second and then fall over but they keep the momentum they had from their fortified speed so thier bodies just go flying away. its hilarious.

I love how, for freeze, the first cast has them saying "Help! I'm being attacked" but then the spell wears off and they're like "oh it's not doing damage it's just annoying" so the next time they're just pissed off

I loved how the magic system in Morrowing and Oblivion could totally break the game. Even though Oblivion already tuned it down. Enchant some ring with permanent life regen, bam, legal god mode. Too bad they reduced the freedom even more for Skyrim. Who cares if magic is completely scuffed, it's a single player game. Let the people have fun when they decide to.

The reasoning I believe was more based on the fact they made spell cost reducing enchantments. As soon as those exist any spell you could craft is free, throw on how Conjuration has always been better then using normal weapons and you have 0 reason to use non-magical things. While things can be scuffed in a single player game if it gets too extreme it does negatively impact everything you do.

Good thing Skyrim's enchantment is broken in other ways. Fortify resto-necromage loop comes to mind.

I once used it to create a massive AOE spell that charmed all man and beast for many miles. It might of covered the whole map! As the entities converged on my location their natural hate for one another kicked in and a massive war broke out between pretty much everyone it seemed. I'm not sure anyone besides myself survived.

My personal favorite is drain health at 100 points, max aoe, minimum duration. On lower difficulties you can stand in the middle of town and cast it and just watch everything fall over dead. You can also use a no aoe version to make an instant death ranged spell. On higher difficulties where enemies have more health, it's not always a kill, but it can still work great as a finishing blow.

An absolute top tier thing you can do right at the start of the game is with the horse you get and any of the Devine shrines, park that bad boy on top of the shrine and hit accept. The buff hits the horse and it gains *GODSPEED* . You have Ludicrous speed! The fall damage is the only thing fast enough to catch up with that poor animal.

I put a lot of stat boosting spells and one random low damage destruction spell on self that turned me red and called it kaioken, with the variations like you had. I was already building the character for hand to hand mage anyways so it worked.

I remember I had a spell caster with that cursed imp staff that made you have imps fallow you. I made a spell I called civil war that turned me invisible for a couple seconds while casting frenzy in an area around me. These two things combined equaled a lot of death.

That's actually super creative, the scamps respawn infinitely and you can use 100% chameleon while shooting frenzy around with no consequences!

you can get a lot funnier with the fortify spells. once i jumped from bruma to leyawiin in a single bound without any console commands or item stacking. a lot of the time you can use stairs as a ramp and gain ridiculous amounts of height also i made a spell that does like seven hundred damage that can be cast an unlimited amount of times experimenting with that stuff was a lot of fun. i have the save uploaded to my nexus account if anyone's curious

I used to use a spell called Cascade. Paralyze for 2 seconds on TOUCH Fire Damage 3 pts for 1 second in 15 ft on TARGET Key is the fireball needs to veer off-target, so you can do that by turning sharply while casting, or running forward which, if I remember right, tends to shoot the fireball at the ground. This is also a toned down version meant to normal gameplay. Also had a spell that was just summoning a Skeleton Champion, plus an AOE high level Turn Undead spell. Fire at the ground to summon a cowardly skeleton. XD Best part of it was when my friend, who made their own copy of that spell showed me the Pool of Reflection fight and their clone tried to use it. XD Wonder what would happen if every NPC in Oblivion had wacky custom spells...

When I had a low level mage with little magicka, I made Charm 100 points for few seconds on touch, which made it very cheap. When I ran into a human enemy I couldn't beat, I made them like me and yielded immediately.

Not bad, but you haven't discovered the true jank until you've cast Weakness to Magic on Self. After that, cast any spell on Self with Drain Personality 1 pt tacked onto it (even Weakness to Magic) and it gets multiplied. It's way stronger than standard buff stacking. You can become unkillable, run so fast the game crashes, etc. Fortify Speed on horses is great too, since horses have a huge speed multiplier.

You haven't tried spell chains I see. With the proper fortify magicka, drain health, and weakness to magic sequence you can kill anything on any difficulty without ever running out of mana (until you stop casting the spell, but why would you do that?)

The number one thing Morrowind and Oblivion will always have over Skyrim is the ability to directly attack the game itself with magic. Skyrim mostly has better gameplay systems than the older games, but the magic is _so_ inferior it almost balances out.
