i know this isnt talking about the actual coins paid to judas, but i can confirm for reasons i cannot legally state due to reasons i legally cannot state, but the actual judas coins have been privately owned by the same bloodline for the last 347 years, all i can say is that i was formerly employed as a presever of the coins for 34 years, my payment for doing this was so great of sum that even my great great grandchildren will never have to work a day in there lives

Everyone seems to concur that Judas was paid in shekels but were they half shekels or regular shekels? the coin on display at Nim is 18mms so is likely a half shekel. I can find any info on this or more info about that coin

Judas would have been paid in Tyrian half-shekels, or in Greek, tetradrachms. The money changers in the temple would have exchanged Roman and Greek money for these coins to pay the temple tax because they had 94% silver content, compared to the much more debased silver content of the Roman coinage.

@burmiester1 Most people I have read say it was a full shekel. The temple tax was a half shekel per person a year. Not the price of a slave. Going back to Exodus 21:32 the price of a slave was 30 shekels of silver. At this time we are talking about the weight of silver, not a coin. Through contemporary writings we find that the cost of slaves varies. 15 to 30 shekels. (Gen 37:28) there are also writings of slaves being sold for 50-60 shekels. Based on slaves being sold for a certain amount of shekels, It is most likely thought that Judas 30 pieces of silver were shekels. Not half shekels. He sold Jesus for the price of a common slave. From an article on the net …. “documents from the Mesopotamian regions of Nuzi and Ugarit show that the regional slave price had risen to around 30 shekels. “
