@@luckbox360 No the original formulation was of possible positions after a given finite set of legal moves. The point was to demonstrate how difficult it is to hard solve chess with brute force computation, with or without illegal moves, which may or may not include more possible positions than atoms in the observable universe bc the set of possible positions with a legal move order and the set of positions that does not exclude illegal moves are both very large numbers that can share an overlap such that legal move order alone does not capture the difficulty of hard solving chess.

I believe I read that a Googol was an estimate at one point. Kind of arbitrary as a base10 notation, a Googolplex is 10 rasied to a Googol power i.e. 10^10^100. Its purpose was to instill the concept that this incedibly large number only exists, for all intents and purposes, in your imagination, and for all that is still nowhere closer to infinity than the number one 🤷‍♂️.

This reminds me of a position I was in a position yesterday as black where white was threatening to open up my kingside by taking my knight on F6. The problem was is that I had a bishop/queen battery lined up on his h3 pawn, ready to sack. He thought he was going to have a great time busting open my king, but never saw that after I busted open his king with the sack, my king side steps to bring in a juggernaut of a rook. Unstoppable. I think it was mate in 2 or 3
